I quit my job because they demanded I be there in-office during specific times even though it made no sense for my role.

I think I'm better suited towards jobs where it doesn't matter where or when I do it, as long as the work is getting done. For example, do the work, then play video games instead of twitching my mouse pretending to be busy. But, well, I haven't been able to find a job like that. Everything is weird fake-work bureaucracy and the appearance of productivity, instead of actually being productive. It's weird. Employment is about pretending to be an important adult, rather than doing real work. It's so weird.

I got fired from my last job because my boss was friends with the district manager who would basically cover up his incompetence and complete lack of ability to do his job, while she punished everyone else for the slightest fuckup. I watched every one in my district get written up for anything, and this guy would completely fuck up entire payment processes for customers, cost them money for weeks while they wait for a refund. I made the mistake of being better at his own job than him, and didn’t downplay it, and once he realized it he basically put a target on my back and she started to nitpick every little thing I did. They ended up letting me go because I was out of uniform because my shoes had a streak of gold on the logo and weren’t all black. I thought about going for a wrongful termination lawsuit, but I ended up finding a job that was 100x better with a boss who is actually competent and cares and isn’t a piece of shit.

I found an email to her basically saying how he would prefer that I didn’t work there anymore, and they tried to get me for not cleaning, but I had recorded myself cleaning the store for months on end and they backed off. My HR manager is actually really nice to me in particular. Like she will do stuff like come and bring me coffee or chocolate and sit talking to me about random stuff and asking me what im doing after work or at the weekend. I was in the same position just before and during Covid in 2020 after 4 years of uni. Then I did 10 interviews in December and 8 of them told me I was the preferred candidate in mid-Jan over 3 days. I have no idea what I did differently and why I managed to get all of that in one day when the past few months of applications yielded nothing. I snagged a QA job during the pandemic. At first, things were pretty alright.
