Negative portrayal of Mexicans and Indians. It has a lot of scenes of Native Americans doing fucked up shit and that pissed people off back when the book came out. The point isn't that they are evil, as the gang do the same shit, it was that people romanticize a lot of cultures and disregard factual fucked up shit they did and this book didn't sugar coat or hide that Natives weren't saints like people try to portray them all the time.

That shit alone is why this would be a challenge to ever get made.
