I think I figured out what's got all these nikke stories feeling so awful lately. It's all set up.
The first half of the crystal Ark was all just set up for Cindy's return. The second Half was all for Rapi. Four chapters of set up for the beasts and Anis. Unbreakable sphere felt like nothing but set up for future events rather than the payoff it should have been.

You can only move via dodges. People's complaints with this game are because they don't understand how it works. As long as you're running full fps, it has zero input delay, sluggishness, etc. 2 important things to know. This game animation locks you like souls games. Once you start a swing you can't cancel it to dodge/parry and it gets longer the farther into the combo you go. Also, it buffers attacks to an insane degree, meaning if you press attack 2/3x really fast, you're absolutely going to attack a 2nd and 3rd time after the first and you cannot stop it. Both of these together mean you have to be precise and not mash like a monkey. If you understand this and plan ahead to not be locked into a swing when you need to parry or dodge, its actually extremely easy to do either.

The ONLY shitty thing about the combat system is there seems to be a bug/weird oddity where if you are dodge and then press attack twice, you will actually attack 3x, so pressing it a 3rd time will start the extremely long combo finisher. If you wait a little bit after dodging and then attack twice, you will correctly only attack twice. Other than that there is nothing wrong with this minigame and its pure skill issue.
