There's a port of Mother 1&2 to the GBA, which has a fan translation patch for the Mother 1 half, that's the best way to play Mother 1/Earthbound Beginnings. The official translation is lower quality. The GBA port has QOL improvements over the NES original.
For Earthbound/Mother 2, just play the official SNES version. Mother 3 is on the GBA and has a high quality fan translation.
I recommend using emulators for all three. You can easily find ROMs on the Internet Archive, last time I checked. Well the updates won't go anywhere and we'll have time to make more for the next tourney in December no matter what. Both of us officially "in charge" of the team have been at this a years now, and that's not counting the coach-anon's experience doing other teams.
