Arknights. The only gacha game I can launch on a Sunday night for a few hours to play the no rewards mode because the gameplay is so fucking good.
But I think the game is unironically too hard for a "modern audience". People cry about the insane difficulty, paywalls and statchecks, but the game just wants them to git gut.

No. The problem with every gacha game is once they see that they're making millions of dollars, they give up and go on autopilot. They think "well we made it, let's just give them the same garbage over and over." and then its over. So even if you find a gacha that you genuinely like, the game will never evolve beyond that because the devs think they've won and then you'll inevitably get bored and grow to resent the game. I've seen this in almost every gacha community. Eventually you just have to realize that these games are for oggling at cute girls and you never take it seriously beyond that.

Alright you dorks here's some tips for this boss.
My borrowed units are a V5 Tololo and a V3 Springfield. Kluk/SF are V6, Vivi V2, Mechty V0, QJ/TLL V6, Kot V4.

Def up buff: Appears when he puts up his shield. Use any dispel (QJ, Mechty, Tololo, etc). Its shield will decrease damage taken by 30% but there isn't much you can do about it so just hit it until it breaks. Your damage still counts for points.

Debuff: Boss will apply a debuff with his frontal swipe that turns into a stacking crit damage buff for your team when cleansed (like Nemertea). You want to cleanse (either AoE or ST) every turn to maintain this buff. Buff has a 2 turn duration so you must cleanse at the same point every turn if you want to maintain it on most units (eg. QJ ult -> Cleanse -> everyone else, every turn). Units with bonus turns such as TLL and SF will tick down the buff every action, making it nearly impossible to keep stacked.
**When stability broken, boss will also start with an AoE attack that applies this debuff.
- How to abuse: Reactive cleanses such as Mechty's ult will instantly cleanse after the attack lands in the middle of the boss' turn, much like Nemertea. This means that you can technically max out all 10 stacks on turn 2 if desired, as the boss applies this debuff twice on the first turn if stability broken.

I didn't test this but I'm pretty sure that if you kill the boss on turn 6 you lose points from the third shield not being activated.

Springfield specific tips:
Use Colphne's common key so that her S2 can cleanse. **IMPORTANT
Intense Penetration has no effect on her bird.
At V2+, mostly for V6:
If you want to stack her buff for as long as possible, SKIP or BASIC on turn 2, otherwise on turn 4 when you Ult->S2 she will lose her stacks.
Example rotation:
T1: Ult->S2 TLL
T2: Nothing (use another unit to cleanse such as Mechty, Kot, Vivi V2, etc)
T3: S2 TLL
T4: Ult
T5: S2 TLL->S2 SF
T6: S2 SF
T7: Ult->S2 TLL (Buff will fall off here)

No one explains what's the issue with it is.
Basically there's a guild activity where every three weeks you have to fight a boss. The nigger devs decided that just fighting a boss is not enough, so you have to fight the same boss fight the boss multiple times. Dpn't feel it's enough? Do the same fight two (or even three if you're autistic) times a day, for a total of 14 to 21 times every gunsmoke, same one map, same same one battle. There's no excuse for this design.
Autoing the fight? Naturally you will lose on gunsmoke SCORE. You compete for being the top 5% of platoons in order to get an extra 1/3 of a roll. If you miss out on reaching top 5% your platoon members might leave for greener pastures. It's the quintessential rat race.

How to fix Gunsmoke:

How does gunsmoke boss shield work? I’m looking at the support v6 Springfield and it says she can remove a buff before she attacks, yet that shield on the boss basically never comes off. Same happened when I tried to use Vector to dispel the buff, didn’t do jack shit.

The shield is not the same as the buff.
Boss gets a buff and a shield at the same time. The buff can be dispelled, but the shield needs to be broken by damage.
Check his buffs when shield comes up, then check again after you've dispelled.

The shield itself is not a buff, it's basically extra hp. Damaging it even counts towards your score.
The buff is a separate thing, it's what allows him to stun your dolls. If your dolls don't get stunned then you're doing it right.

I would say that this boss is significantly easier and faster than the plant. The mechanic is easy enough to maintain with Ksenia, G11, and KSVK.
V2 Klukai can finally see play, typically in the fire team granted that Springfield's bird will proc all 4 support attacks per turn by itself. The team can kill or close to it with either V2 Klukai or Ksenia in the filler slot.
The Hydro core can be shoehorned into any team and also come close to killing.
I saw a lot of people trying to recreate the wheel by forcing double Springfield+TLL. This is actually just terrible. You would rather borrow V6Springfield and use your own TLL over forcing a V1Springfield play. As such, I would recommend F2P either skip or grab V0Springfield as a dorm decoration. Unlike V2Klukai who can see play here for her 15% extra defense break, V1Springfield is a complete meme.
Ppsh getting shoehorn as a filler unit makes the boss stack +20%vulnerability per turn as opposed to +10%; it can push some near-kills into kills at about the same value of V2Klukai.
HOXY? will be recruiting 5 new members at the end of this gunsmoke since some members can't handle their McQueen failing 18% rainbow stamina training and are quitting to become better horsefags. Cutoff seems to be 12.7k/day.

Springfield is a better borrow when using QJ+Vector+Sharkry. This is because her bird will ensure that QJ gets 6 supports and Sharkry gets 5 supports per turn. Using your own TLL here is a waste since this team will do a lot of damage (score formula is a root function). If you do put TLL into this team, then you will likely kill on turn 6 (so you must deliberately hold damage since an early kill is -182 points)
HK416 is the best borrow for G11+Peritya. This goes without saying.
Springfield is a better borrow when using TLL. Assuming you don't bomb your own TLL on the burn team, this is a forced play on your third team.
