That's a nice paragraph and I agree, but one thing:
I have never argued that Shadow should NEVER make that face. No one has to my knowledge. That has never been my argument and it's frustrating to see it reduced to that.
There's a huge difference between having him do it 10% of the time and 90% of the time. I'm not asking for 0% but for 10% (being generous since it's more like 5% in older games). Fanworks make it 90%.
I'm saying 1. have him do it infrequently and 2. it has been slowly happening more often now that IDW's team is working on other official media, because they get all their understanding of the characters from the fandom/fanart. I am not saying it should never ever happen, Shadow does make expressions, but he usually has a pretty good poker face and the viewer can't tell what he's thinking/feeling. I'm fairly sure this is done intentionally to make him more mysterious, which is a big part of Shadow's appeal.
I don't like it when fan media influences the characters. I don't like it when social media memes are made official in some capacity. That's true "meta era" shit right there, adding in vague references to flavor of the month memes and changing the characters' entire body language to better match the mental illnessu fanart 15 year olds on your feed draw.

There's something chilling about an extremely powerful character like Shadow just silently and calmly walking towards you with the intent to kill, his gaze staring straight through you. That should be replicated. He's that missing link between a murder machine like Metal and a real 'hero' like Sonic.

What's your favorite sonic songs with lyrics, /sthg/?
For me is almost every song in Frontiers and Sonic R. I never get tired of them! Knight of the wind is also a favorite of mine.

Eggman has only worked well as a VERY serious villain in SA2. He does not work as a serious villain otherwise.

People want Eggman to be this serious villain but Sonic is a franchise that is meant to run forever and be very flexible enough that many many different types of plots can work. Having Eggman be goofy the vast majority of the time makes it easier to justify his inclusion in loads of different types of plots.

If you want a serious villain make a new villain, Eggman can be dangerous but rarely serious.

Besides issues with the remaster, Colors is one of those "You had to be there" type of games. It was something Sonic fans(Specifically the ones that grew up with the Genesis and SatAM) needed after the late 90s and 2000s were seen as massive disappointments after the widely praised and beloved Sonic 3 & Knuckles. People demanded that the Sonic franchise went back to basics, which Sonic Colors fulfilled by being mostly 2D platforming, Eggman being the main villain, only Sonic and Tails are present as everyone else is absent(Unless it's the DS version), only Sonic being playable, and a extremely lighthearted story with tons of comedic humor.
It's why Colors was heavily praised back in the day, although nowadays it's seen as a awful game.
