The thing with the secret content is that it's all optional and usually requires you to do very bad or dumb things to get to, the hidden characters are mostly insane or clearly out of place/sinister, and pursuing the Weird Route ends up in Kris doing an assault analogy at Noelle, so I'm doubtful that it's required for any sort of *good* or fulfilling end rather than being like Genocide in Undertale again

There's no way the world of Deltarune is real. The darkners (specifically Jevil and Spamton) struggle for freedom against the constraints of their world as determined by the will of their creator, typically the Knight. Kris struggles for freedom against the contraints of his world as determind by the will of his creator (Gaster). Nobody can choose who they are in this world because everyone is fictional. They're all simple objects, projections of the imagination of the one who created them. There is only one ending, determined by the creator. Toby Fox has decided how things will end up. Every game designer deciedes how their game will end, you're not actually free to choose for yourself. But there are a number of different ways to play the game that provide unique and varied experiences. "Journey, not the destination," etc. This is what Kris needs to learn, to affirm his life even in the absence of an absolute freedom
