His health pool, along with the damage reduction on vape allow him to escape any situation he wants unless there is an ana anti-nade, plus a stun of some sort during his vape. He is a hero designed for 80 iq retards to get value on. He needs your entire team to focus and coordinate to take down one 80 iq player, while he gets to hook one shot you. He is a fundamentally dishonest hero which requires asymmetrical balancing of flat stats to win fights, not any skill difference.

Do you think map picks could have a negative effect on map familiarity long-term?

Ever since map picks were introduced in comp, I’ve mostly been playing the same few maps. At first, it was nice playing on maps I preferred for a change and avoiding ones I didn’t like, but now I’m realizing it's hurt my overall map familiarity. In over 50 matches the past two weeks, I haven’t seen Route 66 or Colosseo once (despite being options), and maps like Ilios, Antarctic Peninsula, and the flashpoint ones feel almost forgotten. I’ve only played the new Aatlis map twice.

To be fair, I’ve seen a decent variety overall—about 17 maps—but control, push, and flashpoint maps are noticeably absent, except maybe Nepal. I get that players prefer what they’re familiar with, so newer (like Aatlis) or less popular maps (like Suravasa) get skipped. But it makes me wonder: if you’re new to the game and only get to play small map pools, how do you even learn the rest? And what happens when you're suddenly dropped into a map like Aatlis with zero experience?

I think it’s fine for funny pictures or memes, and I genuinely think we’ll all be jacking it to AI-generated porn in one way or another, but it’s never going to be considered serious art. It's not the same as oldschool main/flex support but it still exists. It's just more like "does peel or does not peel" instead of "stares at the tank or does not stare at the tank."
To establish context and history for the terms we'll talk about OW1's subroles for a moment.

Main supports in OW1 filled their role by putting less time into their tank and prioritizing how to make impact through non-healing play. Lucio's speed boost, Brigitte's retarded DPS, and Mercy's damage boost were all extremely high impact. They also helped keep up the DPS because putting a lot of time into healing DPS was very risky for their flex support. Since they had two tanks just a few seconds looking at a DPS was enough to put them behind on heals and lose the fight. Main supports were able to heal DPS very easily without much effort.

Flex supports were all about cooperating with your tank and following up what they did. Ana's nade, Zen's discord, Bap's lamp, and Moira's orbs + DPS. Optimal use was always supporting what actions your tank was making. Acting as the overwatch (he said the line) for your tank and enabling their plays.

In OW2 it's different. As there's one tank the supports are able to prioritize different things now.

Two main supports together really don't have anything to focus on, so they probably lose.

The flex support in OW2 is more or less the same as it was in OW1, but with the added feature of being a mid-long range DPS. They're going to spend most of the match rotating and finding angles where they can both pocket the tank and deal damage. This is why the main support is so important. With the help of their main support they can take angles and fights that they typically wouldn't. The main support acting as their personal tank allows them to maximize their value and do as much as possible. Two flex supports can play together at times. Kiriko/Moira is a legitimate backline that can be useful in very messy or dive-heavy matches. Both supports have options to sustain themselves and excellent escape tools. They also both have the ability to step up as the tank-pocket when needed, so they don't have to depend on each other like the typical main-flex support duo does.

The hybrids are the weird part of OW2. All three are great backline bouncers, but all three also prioritize their tank in healing. Zenyatta can pair well with Ana or Baptiste by getting value out of putting harmony on a flanker and by acting as a mini-tank for their flex support. In a team with a main support they can take on the flex support job by keeping orb on the tank and becoming a backline turret, using discord to give their tank the edge in the head-to-head or on dives. Lifeweaver has insanely high output so he can pocket the tank, but his auto-aim makes healing DPS very easy. He can also peel for his co-support, deals a lot of damage, and is tank so he can work as a main support as well. Juno is the weirdest of them all. She should be pocketing the tank a lot, but she can join the DPS on flanks and fight off flankers pretty easily. Ring can be used as both and engage tool for the tank or an escape tool for her cosupport.

So there you have it, the support subroles in OW2. Very real, very alive, and very legitimate.
