typically teams are tank, 3 dps, healer. in some of the games you can easily substitute the tank with more damage. most of the time you can substitute the healer with a buffer who heals passively. typically you want one buffer, one debuffer and the rest of the dps to be heavy damage. whether that's straight up damage or chains. many classes aren't pure damage but hybrids that can debuff or do ailments or buff in addition to damage, most of the time you should avoid stacking too many of those because their damage component is often decent but not great

there are a bunch of ways to go about it but what you can do is start with a class or skill and then look for things to add to that skill to make it stronger or help their weak spots so for example you can start with an alchemist and then add troubadour since it can reduce enemy resistance or you add a protector to make it more survivable.
Another way to go about it would be to look at what a team needs to do to succeed so for EO there are two main combat situations random encounters and bosses, and then make sure you have the tools to deal with both of those situations.

I forgot how stupid easy the game is with 5 Beasts. Doze Off costing 1 TP is absurd, specially when Beasts can have 50% chance to remove ailments at the end of the turn.
But I should most definitely invest on TEC on my 5th slot Beast because they have garbage elemental defense.

I think noob trap is focusing too much on defense, there are so many ways to substitute tank and healer classes while it's much harder to sub a damage dealer. In the end you win by killing your enemies not by outlasting them, enemies and bosses have infinite TP and you do not.
Of course you can play the game however you want but I think that not using tanks or healers is how you get into really nice team compositions. The game's a lot more interesting then too since you're actually using consumables instead of saving them for the rainy day that never comes.

Dedicated healers can be boring since a lot of the time you can get similar results with buffers that also heal (ie. Princess, Dancer or Rover)
Tanks on the other hand are very useful when your team composition has 1 or 2 guys that you really don't want to die and are stupid squishy (ie. front row Gunner, front row Palmchemist, 5 kat Masurao, Max Overheat Ygg); or when you're playing EO5 and just pick Dragoon to fuck shit up. In general, tanks are not too useful unless you're going for very specific compositions that require a lot of babysitting for 1 or 2 of your party members

While I'm not sure how the stacks work (additive, multiplicative, adding another check to proc, etc.) it basically adds a check every time you gather and it can replace a common material with a rare one.

The gathering materials in each stratum get progressively more valueable at a rate regular and even conditional drops can't keep up with. 5,980en per battle is nothing by comparison once you reach a certain point. It just completely breaks the game.

There are only 8 or so Coupons in the game and they can't be farmed and they didn't refresh in NG+ in the original DS version though that might be changed in the remasters. Regardless, using one on Yagrush, one of the game's best weapons, isn't a waste at all.

if you want TP efficiency you go with palms, but alchemist doesn't really care about TP efficiency because they got that shit for days. compression's the way to go, nuclear is just a small tech option in case you run into an elemental resistance monster.

Yes, Compression is just fucked like that.
Palms are good for tp efficiency but since Alchemists have the highest tp pool it doesn't matter that much for that. Palms are however fantastic for two things.
The first one is for chaser parties since Palms hit twice per turn.
The second one is to get Palm grimoires, give it to your physical dps party members and make their next skill hit with the Palm's element.

I wonder why Nexus uses IV's version of End of the Raging Waves/Winds.
Not that it's a bad thing, V's version is maybe a bit too grand sounding for some asshole chameleon.

why are you trying to freeze their level at all? Just leave the points in combat study and let them continue to level.
And the optimal main class is either ninja for the -9 tp cost (making double crop level 1 cost 1 tp) or zodiac for the significantly larger tp pool. Personally I like 4 ninjas 1 zodiac. Also worth noting is that if you insist on using main class farmers horseplay is more tp efficient than double crop at restoring gather attempts, but will probably be partially wasted so isn't a complete replacement. And I think it has an extra dialogue box to click through, which gets annoying.
Obviously this only applies after you have subclassing, and for any early game farming you'll need real farmers.

In my experience citra/lime eventually has a stroke after [X] hours of playtime of the US version. I have no idea what causes it and it's just anecdotal experience, but it happened to me twice. The first time it corrupted all my saves except the one in the first slot, then the second time it stopped recognizing the DLCs altogether, and nothing I did could fix it. Then I swapped to the EU version, started over and there were no further problems.

I don't think I've ever had a more leisurely stroll through the labyrinth in any game.
These animals hit pretty hard and are borderline unkillable with how much damage reduction they have and how much HP Doze Off heals them for the cost 1TP

I don't know, they're way too different for me to be able to actually compare them. On one hand vanilla Beast has questionable design to say the least but can be really good offensively and defensively under the right conditions; on the other hand 2U Beast is one of the tankiest tanks in the series but it's kinda boring because it's just a giant wall, it won't do much more than that.
I guess vanilla 2 but only if you have at least 2 Beasts in your party since they can actually deal damage and tank. But a Beast on it's own is way to fragile since you cannot control Loyalty and for some fucking insane reason Loyalty makes the Beast receive post mitigation damage, so covering a squishy character makes the Beast fucking explode.

Got it in my head to replay V again after finishing it years ago and want to try out some different classes. Looking at a celestial graced poisoner. Thing is, last time after finishing I messed around a bit in s6 with a brouni deathguard support using atonement and cradle edge and really liked it.
But it looks like poisoner already has 3 debuff slots by themselves. I'm worried running both classes has anti synergy due to the debuff slot limit. Is there some way to make this work or am I just shooting myself in the foot here running both?

Is it strange that I hope they HAVEN'T been actively working on Next Stage for too long? Well obviously they can't have been the whole time if the team's been getting drafted to work on other games.
But what I'm trying to say is that EO was able to flourish on the DS console line largely because of the low budget requirements low-res handhelds had. Dungeon crawlers are never gonna sell crazy amounts, but that's fine if the dev time and needed sales are low.
So I'm scared that an EO made for HD from the ground up is gonna get retarded executives trying to make it a big seller somehow, pushing for a big budgeted, "wider appeal" sort of game.
Even if they could manage do that without sacrificing the core appeal, that just means it'd be burdened with unrealistic sales expectations. And even if they succeed, it's still likely that we won't get games at a decent pace anymore. It doesn't have to be every year like we had it, these games last for a long time thankfully, but once a decade sucks.

I'd say lack of a medic, is probably what hurts. Protector is capable of outputting heals, but I feel as though they're better preventing damage, rather than restoring it. You're heavy on the offense, and you could probably cut an Alchemist, but that's just my hesitance to use duplicate classes.

Already managed to screw it up by being cheeky and telling Birgitta I don't need a map. Which in fact, did not give me a map. (I was expecting a fake choice). I consequently got lost and ran into an event that forced me into a pretty hard battle having 3 members without any equipment. Not great considering the party is lvl2. Surprisingly my gunner made it out alive with 4hp and no tp remaining, but everyone else died. Even managed to scurry out of the labyrinth but decided to simply reset due to xp bar ocd. Fun times, looking forward to the rest of the run again.

Hawk.
Hawk's Blind is really great - the damage they do is nice, but just blinding a whole line is so strong for 90% of encounters. And it tends to go off at or near the start of the turn too. And they work a lot better with Target Arrow (another excellent debuff) than the Hound does. Eventually I started summoning both, because it's nice just to have another target for the enemy to hit and distribute damage over, but it's not like I spec'ed too much into the hound stuff aside from the attack that makes it do binds

I found it became pretty second nature desu, but I guess if that little constant bit of management is annoying keeping your TP up can be annoying. For me personally, I like Rover a lot - I wasn't using necromancer, and I didn't want to use a botonist (though the more smoke focused ones seem a bit more fun), so they fit really well for the team I was going for - taking up the pet slots while also giving pretty consistant healing.

Unironically, Farmer/Ninja did a good job of carrying me through a lot of encounters once I started putting points into Beheading. The luck just made it so a lot of the time, a trickier enemy just instantly died without having to worry about it. And if you're willing to run knives, you also get a decent chance at petrifying with Izuna and a decent chance at leg binds with Shadow Bind, which can help for your Gladiator.

It definitely helps keep them useful for the longer run. I probably went a bit too far into prioritizing luck on mine, but it's not like the strength stat matters when you instakill things. Targeting a different enemy than what the rest of the party is dealing with is probably the most efficient way to go about it (assuming luck holds out and it procs).
If only they had a better bind move. I tried all game to get it useful, but it still never becomes reliable to bind anything. Still, there's enough other utility to be a fine party member.

You don't need to return to town. Just floor jump to second stratum. Save game in geomagnetic pole and then return to town.
This way, you won't lose Rosa's grimoire buff.

The music in the second strata of every game outside of maybe V generally does a good job of sounding mysterious and moody but the mood Undersea Grotto's theme invokes is only matched by some 6th stratum themes. It's a really tense theme for such an early dungeon relative to the rest of the series.

Also I don't mean that as a knock against V's 2nd statum since Jagged Reach has one of my favorite themes in the series.
