Path of Exile 2 really suffers from a lack of direction. It's really hard to help newbies in this game because you can't just "click life nodes" for the passive tree. I'm sure the support gem change was to partially address this, it was just way too much for a newbie to slap all these niche combo pieces on all their skills.

In the sorc/monk gameplay deep-dive at Exilecon, there was a lot discussed about how cooldowns are a poor solution to the skill variety problem, and it was said that impactful skills in PoE2 would very rarely have cooldowns. Unleash (a staff skill at the time) was cited as a big exception because it mostly provided utility. I really agree with this philosophy and I was very excited to see it implemented.

However, it seems like every patch we stray further away from it. In 0.2, Flameblast, an iconic "primary skill", got a 15 second cooldown tacked on it. This time, we're not only getting a new skill with a hefty cooldown (Forge Hammer with 8 seconds) but we're getting cooldowns on Lightning Conduit (6 seconds) and on another iconic skill (Eye of Winter with 15 seconds).

I just want to raise the flag early that I don't think this is the right direction to go. I understand the need to limit powerful skills and to have finishers, but you should use the framework you've created instead of adding cooldowns. For example, make Flameblast/EoW/Conduit consume ignited/chilled/shocked ground under you, or require an infusion of the right element. Or add ways to bypass the cooldown such as spending charges. Make the skills conditional in other ways (you even walked back this design misstep with Hammer of the Gods, which started as a CD skill and is not anymore).

Every skill that's exciting to cast should be usable as a primary skill. If the strength of the skill means you need to jump through hoops to use it as a primary, then provide us with the hoops. We are happy to do it for Flicker Strike, no reason why we can't for flameblast/EoW/LC.

They said that perfect chaos orbs are going to be slightly rarer than a div so I see one of two things happening
Option 1 - perfect chaos is basically just a regular chaos and will never get used, will be made rarer to account for not being used (like they already did to chaos orbs)
Option 2 - perfect chaos is actually basically a whittling and it will be upgraded to lock-tier within a week
Either way I hope you can get to endgame quick enough to farm some in time :)

The TL;DR is that thanks to removing the reload speed penalty it ends up only slightly worse nominal DPS at base and scales better. Definitely a sidegrade, the denser damage is going to run into overkill efficiency losses in some cases but the burst full-clearing what it hits and having less reload gap reduces risk.

Possibly very good, I played this before even when it had the jump and it definitely stuns a lot and does a lot of damage especially when you conc effect it. Now that it got buffed it should do a fuckton of DPS, but the question is whether it's even close to competitive with other bow shit. Also Toxic Growth isn't even a real "poison" skill, it's just enabled by poisons, you're better off just scaling crit and attack speed and not poisons if you want to max it out.

PF MIGHT be interesting with the acidic conc acting essentially as a Blood Hunt for poison. But it's a questionable ascendancy choice to me.
Tactician isn't particularly good for poison bow (no inherent synergy with immobilize or totems, banners might be ok) but is a solid ascendancy in a general sense. Pretty good chance that Gemmie just mogs both of them because of quality and having the movespeed bonus pathfinder has but on a better damage ascendancy.

1700 life 1400 ES with just 50,000 tooltip dps
Completed a couple maps with no issues
Played my Amazon from 0.2 yesterday
1400 life 140 ES with 84,000 tooltip dps
Kept getting exploded by god knows what nonstop

This time I will make sure to have plenty of ES... The extra 34k~ dps is barely noticeable as everything dies super fast either way, especially now that crafting will be easier and the abyss stuff will just add on top, DPS should be much easier to get

The thing that gets me most about the current tree is how there's almost no unconditional regen on it, even on the left side. The game would probably feel a lot better for them if they were able to recover without relying on shitty poo2 leech.

It sucks to be hating on Path of Exile 2 but for the complete opposite reasons that everyone else is. The elemental resistance changes is a great example. Everyone loves it for some reason but it just makes the different elements even less interesting to use, reducing them to just combo pieces. Whispering Ice and Xoph's Blood just reducing all resistance makes no sense, there is no point in choosing one piece of gear over another other than whichever reduces the most resistance.

Basically every instance of GGG making Path of Exile 2 easier is making it worse in the long run while people enjoy how easy it makes the game in the short term, despite the game already being insanely easy

A mostly hypothetical problem that if anything suggests that PoE 2's passive tree is better at doing what it's supposed to do.
The idea that "just click life nodes" is actually good advice for newbies in PoE 1 is based on the premise that you can get all the damage you need from equipment and gear and so you don't need to make build-commitments in the passive tree. Instead can just use it for generic defensive bonuses, with Life being the most generic.
Insofar as that's actually true, why is that a good thing? Why have a passive tree in the first place if not to get players to make meaningful either/or choices about what kind character they're playing?

The main difference in PoE 2 is that the "most generically good stat" has moved from Life to damage, and now players need to commit to one of the broad 3 archetypes (melee, caster, or ranged weapon user) relatively early. Given that Classes already serve the function of shuffling new players into one of those archetypes, and that full respecs are overall easier in PoE 2 than they were in PoE 1, this is fine.

I used the term EFFECTIVE armour (for phys taken as ele) for a good reason.
Your raw armour number is one thing, how much work that armour does depends on how high you're stacking the "% of armour applies to ele percentage" (seems to be stackable to over 100% without any clownshit, and to 200-300% with clown shit like a unique chest), and the "defend with 200% armour" stat found on tactician and a belt. On top of that, we're getting higher quality and extra socket bases. I'd bet a kidney that the highest armour char in 0.3 will be way above the highest armour char in 0.2.
Also I'm calling it a conservative estimate (pessimistic about new mechanics) but assuming a developed char with non-dog gear.

This is with scavenging plating down and scavenging plating is a more multiplier. There's also charge infusion and endurance tech on the passive tree (but very few people were using this).
On top of that, some of the strongest armour tech (using a buckler+Iron Reflexes and stacking shield effect increases on jewels) isn't even explored much.

You don't have to take a lot of damage nodes to do damage with maces, and they're pretty neatly clustered near armour nodes. We'll see how the new tree is.

Yes, I'm certain, based on stuff that was already shown, and there will probably be multiple paths to reach it.
Kitava starts with 50% if you wear white chest. Alternatively, blackbraid gives up to 150% uncorrupted.
There is 30% for each ele type in socketables, and around ~20ish on the tree, quite possibly more because the prismatic node was changed.
Rare gear was shown to roll around 10-20%, but these might not be high end rolls and they didn't show what shields and chests can do (these tend to have loads of stats compared to gloves and other shit).

It might not be the fastest but it guarantees consistens runs
Kill devourer, kill hut witch, kill the rare shield guy in the tomb (not the one with praetor, the woman), and lastly, if you really need 4th support, kill dryad. Do this every run and gems will never be an issue.
Also, quiver and bow are important but so are rings and gloves. Theres guaranteed ring in the tomb area (before you go down to the tombs, like the region above the tombs), and if you’re lucky you get iron ring. Gloves can easily give you as much flat damage as you average quiver, as can rings.

It's ignite synergy (elemental ailment stuff) it's a fire damage over time debuff that does chaos damage over time now, it's not Chaos damage over time like poison though. Contagion will spread your poison but a chaos ignite won't because it's just an ignite that does chaos damage. You can combo it with snap for fire damage or other shit but it's probably rather pointless. I think you get stronger ignites because chaos damage is more plentiful on the tree than fire damage at the cost of it being difficult to scale increased ignite magnitude
