I liked it, but also felt it was way too long. My save file says 135 hours.
In the beginning I ran around talking to everyone, listening in on every conversation, and at the end I was just gym gym gym just let the time progress. Didn't even take protein to avoid all the popups.

The cat was a super cool mascot, his sprite and voice and reactions were perfect.
I thought cat, Ryuji and and Ann were a perfect team personality wise, it was so much fun exploring the palace and bantering with them. The team dynamic started to click less and less as new members were added.
The entire God thing somehow came unexpected out of the blue, they should have probably ended it after the politician.

Fusing and building personas was cool too, although I never actually used most of them. I took the effort to build a Fafnir immune to everything for the final boss, but I still got hit by him lol.

Yes, I managed because of the extra time in the dlc. She was the last confidant to see level 10.
I liked her when she appeared, her costume design, animations and splash screen were cute and stylish. But other than that, she kind of came too late, and had nothing else going for her as a character.
Her confidant meetings were just coffee coffee coffee, and I already have Sojiro for when I really want to know more about coffee.
Her lines too when the team discussed something, felt like she had nothing to add, she was just there.

i'd argue ann is there for others through her modeling career. she wants to inspire others through it. and i think it's fitting because p5 shows that a problem with society is how people want everyone to fix their problems so they become apathetic to everything around them "just let someone else take care of it!"
so having a character like ann who tries to be a role model and inspire others to grow passively through her career makes a lot of sense to me. and she even continues with her career despite everything she goes through with kamoshida and her school picking on her. he modeling career takes her image, what people used against her, and she just presents it to the world as a strength.

for futaba, i just get the gist since she was a hikikomori that most of her time was spent playing games, scrolling the internet, and reading her mother's research.

You have Persona 1 and 3 to explain the worldbuilding and lore. Persona 4 characters don't really need to know about the well of egos, or Nanjo/Kirjou groups' research, they are teenagers, who try to solve the conundrum they found themselves in.

Not everything that's cheerful and happy is shallow or sloppy. Persona 4 works, because characters are friends who support each other. Persona 3 works, because they are coworkers who try to hide things from each other, and they sometimes fight and bicker with each other because of that.
If Investigation Group was coming apart at seems, it would fall apart. Laid-back friend group is the way to go, if you want amateurs tackle a problem of this scope in this setting.

I thought Akechi was cool, his scheme, and then the Shido fight were the highlight and the climax of the game. That's actually another reason to cut the game shorter, the ending should come after the climax.

His boss fight was the third in a row without a save, I had to use a soma and definitely felt the pressure.
I think he would have been cooler though if he didn't go full Death Note anime villain style, but that's Japanese games for you. They could have tried to spin something like his justice demands evil be punished, so he kills them. That saving villains by tuning them good is not enough for him.

I'd contrast this with P4 where the highlight for me was finding the culprit, and deciding what to do.
That there is a murderer who uses the metaverse, his crimes cannot be proven irl, do we have it in us to kill him ourselves, or what do we do?
Akechi conveniently "disappears" in this game, no moral dilemma.

The other high point of P4 was when the game asked "who did it?" and prompted the name of every character in the game.
Here I didn't trust Akechi fully, and wanted to send the calling card one day earlier to be sure. But you can't do that, you must go with the flow, and you're just shown it's him.
I doubted Sumire more than him, as she has a black mask, and she was in the palace, and she was not part of the group yet.

goro says all his detective achievements would be revealed to be fake after shido gets his heart changed by the pt so i assumed there would be a punishment for him. but the game never mentions that again and shido never says anything about it in his change of heart scene so it did leave me confused.
i think not properly addressing goro was cheap too. the devs knew people would be torn with his character for being both a monster and a victim.
so they just left his fate up to interpretation.
but still, he is my favorite character in p5 despite being oddly written in some places.

i don't think the pt would ever have it in them to kill someone like him because he is like them.
they also just flat out are not killers for one reason or another. they don't like the principle of it and in one instance it's because death is too easy of an escape (kamoshida for ann).

and for p4, putting the pieces together and deciding there's more to this mystery than nanatame and eventually figuring out it's adachi was great. and i like how nearly every character is selectable as a suspect. then the game even expects you to think about it further and find out about izanami.
i just like how the game constantly wants you to think "is there more to this? is this the truth?"
and i like how obtuse it is to access izanami's dungeon. you really have to push for the truth to find it.

I played the original game too and while it had less opportunities for bullshit strats, I remember having a Rangda which was mostly impervious to damage.

I prefer FES for the atmosphere, sound track, voice cast, and overall look of the game. It's not new and shiny, but its art style holds up well.
The gameplay is a bit different than modern Persona games, but I don't think that's a bad thing by any means. The newer games feel a bit too easy for my taste due to all of the powerful mechanics you get access to pretty early on. Theurgies make the game a joke even if the concept of them is pretty cool.
Not having full party control might feel kind of janky at first, but the Tactics menu really isn't hard to manage. There are a few mechanics and player options present in FES that aren't in Reload as well, such as the MC being able to use any weapon category.
Reload is fine if it's more accessible to you and you NEED the QoL improvements that came with later games, but I think that the artistic merits of FES are worth it. It's mostly a matter of taste. If you start with FES, you might come to appreciate the other games more by comparison as you play them and watch the mechanical changes over time though.
