If we are talking about the game itself, which was the topic of your original post, then there are myriad problems including poor animations, clunky and obtuse attribute and scaling systems, bad graphics, and overall bad visuals/aesthetic. The crafting is good amongst a sea of other actual problems as mentioned. And the end game is also empty and lacks interesting mechanics like poe1. Most of their league additions have been basic "kill monster, collect loot" leagues, no new bosses and the unique items are also not "chase worthy" or memorable. I'd nail those down as larger issues than the crafting system. Unity slop kills this game far more than you being some contrarian retard thinking the average person wants to no life a game every 3 months for 1000 hrs.

Smith was getting 90% all res and 75% block which is what's required for melee to actually feel fun and good in this game, and 95% were also wearing Deepest Tower which is an armor base unique that rewards being in melee range of enemies.
Of course the classic GGG triple tap nerfed literally EVERYTHING about these builds in 0.3, with Block now being half as good at keeping you alive and all the left side block nodes having their values slashed, Deepest Tower was deleted from the game entirely and its replacement that works off Surrounded instead of Low Life works even at range and is a pure Evasion base (lol), and Smith had every single max res node dumpstered, max res was removed from the tree, and left side is now forced into armor stacking as replacement.....but Smith was always the worst armor stacker because they give up their chest slot for a white base, that's why they relied on block and resists and strength stacking instead.

What? Everyone is always resista capped no matter what, its a requirement to even play. I'm talking about max res investment. In poe 1 it was amazing because it was easy to access, we had strong phys -> ele taken conversion, and in poe 1 elemental damage from mobs was scaled way higher than phys, so 75% res was suicidal on any build that wanted to walk into a map.

In poe 2 almost every single 1 shot is from phys. Every elemental slam is like 70% conversion so that 30% phys component does the majority of the damage.

Also some skills have expiry times, so projectile speed + duration scales their coverage (spark).

Projectiles expire after time, not distance, so projectile speed can increase the reach of certain abilities, allowing better offscreening on lightning spear.

Projectile speed only increases damage if you have a specific modifier that makes inc speed apply inc proj damage.

I know shotgunning is common in PoE1 but I thought the vast majority of skills in poo2 didn't actually let you shotgun so additional projectiles was mostly for clear not single target damage. If you're already able to clear fine without it or are exploding killed enemies with shit like herald or Trampletoe or witchunter or whatever I can see how +4 level would be more desirable.

Quick napkin math.

You should hit +4 within 3 locks + dextral crystal + abyss essence. Let's just say half a mirror if you need 4.

After that you spam desecration with the reroll omen. So 6 rolls per like 4div, 0.2% chance to hit. So you should hit it in under 100 tries/400 div. So another half mirror.

So that's just about 1 extra mirror to spend to turn that bow from dogshit into god tier.

The only main things I've bought unfinished this league are uniques and my amulet, everything else I either just bought it as a Magic base and finished it myself with essences or got as a rare with open prefixes/suffixes and finished it myself with desecrating or exalt slamming.

of course you can. melee attacks vs range attacks in vanilla d2, melee is way, way, way, way better in nearly every single way. 4x EHP, 6x dmg, 2x crushing blow, etc. just fudge the numbers until ranged is shit, it's that simple. you can of course make the argument that ranged is still overpowered in D2 if you're including non-attacks, but again, simply balance the numbers and you could easily make it so the sorceress is the worst character and melee barb is the best. there's no simpler balancing in a game than an ARPG since you can always just bloat out some random number and no one gives a shit because "that's just how it works bro"

my storm mages individually do ~56,000 DPS and I have between six to nine depending on setup, then Death From Above is another 200,000 DPS on bosses and rares, and then 26 bone constructs each doing like 20k DPS for clear. Gas arrow shoots 5 projectiles each exploding for 30k so thats another 150k on bosses.
Minion builds this patch are a lot of fucking buttons (I don't even have room to bind death storm for my storm mages but it's garbage so I don't even bother) but at least they can do damage. Feels like GGG took the backlash to how dogshit they were in 0.2 personally. It's not LA deadeye but it's still 0-button mapping for the most part since for everything but map bosses you dont even need to use command skills

Partially true, but balance has to be a concern to some extent. It's impossible to make compelling boss fights or other interesting encounters when the gap between an "average" build and optimized meta builds is titanic.
The natural endpoint of this is PoE1's T17 maps where the majority of potential builds aren't viable for it because they're tuned to still be threatening to the hyperoptimized meta builds. Take for example Spark Sorceress in 0.1, capable of killing almost anything in the game in under 10 seconds with a few divs of gear. If they were to start balancing the game around that being possible instead of gutting it, your Boneshatter Warrior or Minion Witch that takes 3-5 minutes to kill Xesht is going to be utterly raped by anything designed to be remotely challenging for Spark Sorc.
This all assumes you're SSF and not playing Trade where the meta has a tangible impact on your gearing process (see: bow prices).
