Because Rune has everything that you don't need to think much harder. Rune is pretty easy to play, because it is broken unless the match making system decides to brick your hands. You see plenty of enemy followers? Play William, Sagelight or Chaos. You're down on health? Play Sagelight or Norman. Can't play your cards this turn? Play your draw caeds. Can't finish off the enemy with Kuon? Play Satan, D. Climb and hope for Astaroth.
Tldr: Rune is a no brainer class.

My last match with Control Forest against Mode Abyss they played R&V on T7 and saved a Valnareik token, then activated Sham-nacha and played a second R&V with extra PP on T8 and then OTKd me with Cerberus + the R&V tokens on T9. A deck that just plays the board would never let them do this.
