Thank you for your service, I saw it was dead but couldn't be arsed.

Unrelated but ChatGPT does a reasonable job of making Little Navmap aircraft performance files. Send it one as an example, and then just ask it to make a file for the aircraft of your choice.

Normally I would post these on /sp/ during the week between races, the joke was that I didn't have any webms of real racing footage handy so it was quicker & easier to go to my replay folder instead because a good sim should look "realistic".
Because like another anon said in /ovg/ the point of making these is to showcase the game not my driving and to inspire others to try shit themselves since everyone online is a bot. Because in a good sim you should be able to see weight transfer under acceleration and braking, suspension movement, going over curbs should not be flat, the game should look dynamic.
Are the tracks accurate? Is there night racing and weather things that aren't in vanilla Assetto Corsa. What types of cars do they have? You don't have to be locked into some irenting subscription that limits what you can drive, find a game that has the cars you want and just do it. Like I wish rf2 had more street cars like in Assetto Corsa.

But now I got into a cycle of trying to push myself to improve each time with new recordings better than the previous ones. So I have to try and drive on the limit so I can showcase what the physics engine can do.

If you are able to, reducing the drag on your throttle will help a lot with using it as a collective. You need to make lots of small, quick, and precise movements with a collective.

The t1600000m throttle is shit honestly, it's not smooth, maybe I should lubricate it. I've lowered the sensitivity tonnes otherwise it makes hover taxiing a nightmare, it's either too much so you go up and then fall down and smack down on the skids or not enough, you can't find the right spot.

I've been watching vsTerminus for the Mi-8. I still don't understand hovering. Also landing. I'm either overpitching or getting stuck in vortex ring state, and it's frustrating the hell out of me.
I think it's just a case of more practicing. I've gotten decent at nose wheel take offs and level flight but man getting up into a hover, vertical take offs, and landings are a pain in the ass.

practicing vuichard recoveries will help with VRS. hovering is hard as fuck, all about putting the reps in until it clicks. the first couple times it all comes together feel like magic.
if you're flying the hip, the best mi-8 tip i've seen is to treat it like a ww2 bomber.

>treat it like a ww2 bomber.
That's kind of what I gathered. I think what bothers me with vertical take offs is she isn't responsive until she is. No matter how light I am on the collective the second I get above light on wheels state I can't find the right anti-torque adjustments. Then I get into a hover and I'm just floating all over the place. Very sloppy.
I'm slowly getting it but the trial and error has been hilarious. At least I'm not rolling over like I was when I first started.
It's funny, I don't even wanna shoot shit with rockets. I just wanna do cargo hauling and being an air bus.

For takeout, you need to torque first, then pull collective, and for low speed maneuvers you want to basically always my moving the anti torque pedals at the same instant that you are moving the collective. It takes a while to get to know how much torque goes with how much collective, but if you are still waiting to see the nose rotate then you are always going to be behind the motion.
Also you need to learn the amounts that you will need for hovering, transitional lift, and forward flight, as well as all the grey areas in between. Takes a while, but it's very satisfying when it starts to be automatic.

For anyone on MSFS 2024, you can have your control sensitivity settings specific for each profile. >go to axis in controls, let's say throttle axis
>next to that is a cog
>that brings up actions settings menu
>click tweak action curve
>that then brings up the sensitivity settings for that specific axis
>that will be saved as part of the profile
>hardware settings is general and for everything
That means you can have different sensitivity settings for each plane.

Taking off and landing without murdering anyone is important, too. 4YA, Burning Skies, Return Pre-Contact, Greyflag, find a good noob-friendly PvE server and become a regular.
Training squads like VWA or Take Flight have regular open blufor group programs if you like external structure.
Finding a decent squad that isn't too sweaty or retarded is always half the challenge of any milsim.

Yeah you have to increase collective pretty slowly in a hover, you can do it faster in transitional lift of forward flight though. Plus you just develop a feel of where the cyclic is supposed to me in certain situations, which a lot easier with a springless joystick instead of using the center trim function on a sprung joystick.

I don't know much about physical aviation maps but from the few pictures I recall seeing they were pretty full of interesting details and especially all VOR/NDB stations were clearly shown and airways too which I guess often have crossroads at these radio navaid stations. Lots of assumptions on my part, my point just is that such official physical maps are quite different from how Little Navmap looks, I assume.

IFR is fun, from my limited experience it's all about being ahead the plane and the arrival/approach plan. I can do a RNAV GPS arrival and approach pretty chill, no stress, ILS too is quite easy but VOR, VOR/DME and especially NDB require much more work so it's not so easy to keep ahead the plane without extensive practice, at least for me. SID's can be tricky sometimes too, and STAR's, especially if they rely on VOR or NDB's and minimum route noise restrictions because you're flying above houses. But yeah I'm just an amateur still at this stuff, only like 100 hours of flying in X-plane.

Also in terms of is it better than 2020, then the answer is definitely yes. I wasn't sure initially if it would be as apart from career mode it was just lots of smaller changes, but the game feels a lot better, the planes fly better, the performance is a lot better, it looks better and the efb is fucking great. I haven't used career mode so can't comment, that's where most of the bugs were.

The body of former freelance lawnmower Keith Higgs was found earlier this morning, reportedly in an advanced stage of decomposition. First impressions are that the 67 year old, born in Invercargill, suffered a massive heart attack more than 3 weeks before his discovery.

According to the witness (a neighbor conducting a wellness check), Higgs was found slumped over his desk still clutching his HOTAS; on his computer was a still-running copy of IL2 1946, with the image of a crash landed Spitfire Mk.Vb burned into the monitor. Two empty bottles of Dewar's White Label scotch were found next to the body. Coroner's theory suggests he suffered the heart attack while en route and did his darnedest to get his plane home, before succumbing. The plane appeared to have no damage other than a prop strike on the initial landing.

Higgs often frequented the controversial imageboard 4chan, engaging in its flight simulator related 'threads', notably "/simg/". He had been banned several times in the past for repeated signature use, and he also had a history of racist and other offensive language, often targeting the Maori and Chinese.

He had previously served four years in the Royal New Zealand Dental Corps, before being discharged for repeated sexual harassment of female staff. Higgs always maintained his innocence, but ultimately it took a toll on his marriage, resulting in divorce.
He spent the rest of his years as a near-recluse, his son Tim being his only outside contact, often playing flight simulators together, until Tim moved to Palmerston North in 2023.
Both he and Keith's estranged wife Sue declined to comment.

Interestingly enough in the video he says that the flaps are automatic and that the ailerons droop as well similar to an F-35 and other modern jets.
In both the MSFS and Xplane version this isn't the case so I wonder if it's an upgrade for the block20 version.
I knew that the system retracted flaps by itself above certain speeds and didn't allow you to drop them for safety (simulated only in MSFS) but I never heard of it actually having true automatic flaps.
One thing I didn't realize was that it's pretty uncommon for a trainer to have a full HUD in the back seat as well, which makes me wonder how hard it's to land trainers like the T-38 or the T-45 from the backseat IRL in case the trainee isn't able to do it. The few times I tried it in the sim with the t45 it was scary as fuck not being able to see properly the carrier and I crashed 3 times out of 5.

in msfs yes, it doesn't allow you to drop it above 250kt but it doesn't retract it automatically. I have no sources on how it behaves IRL. in Xplane you can drop/retract it whenever you want.

Usually the more modern the fighter the shorter training is. These new Gripens Es are basically a single LAD like the F-35 and if nothing changed their LAD are the same that will be used on the M-346 block20.
Here in Italy a complete course to the end of phase IV is usually 9 months IIRC. At the IFTS other countries sometimes choose different packages if they can do the rest at home and are done in 6 months.
I think for Ukraine they would go even faster. If they don't buy a new trainer and just yolo it it will be even faster considering they might just transfer seasoned pilots onto the new machine so they might just need a couple of months in Sweden.
In terms of actual physical deliveries no idea but I guess it's gonna be slow.

Otherwise the flight went smoothly, I was able to execute the assigned SID and STAR correctly. There was one thing I didn't understand though: STAR said that after last waypoint ATC will vector me towards the approach, well X-Plane 12 ATC said "descend to 2000 via I15 for ILS approach, RW15", I15 isn't a waypoint and I couldn't find any information about it, so I have no idea what it meant by that, but I just flew towards the ILS by intercepting the localizer and at least the X-Plane ATC didn't mind...

I'm not a expect on helicopters, but there might be VRS with the Guimbal Cabri G2. If you descend quickly with no airspeed then it does drop considerably, and it makes a buffeting sound. With the VRS assistance on it still makes a bit of the sound but doesn't drop as much and the torque seems to increase so maybe it's doing something to get you out of it.

I'm not really sure what the result of this testing is, as I'm still not sure whether this is something specific to the new 2024 aerodynamics and airframes, or whether it's just something the dev has to put in. If it's the latter it's strange that they'd add the VRS assistance to the options. I'll have to wait for the Cowansim 2024 update to see whether the 500E will get the ability to enter VRS.

I've been asking this question myself. The Air Tractor itself is $1.5-2 million. Converting it over with the machining and work might be 10-15. Sensors are another 4-5. Spare parts and engines I'd wager would be another million or two per airframe.
So in all I can see $25 million if you throw in a some hookers and champagne for the big wigs. Even at a mark up for error I couldn't see more than $30 million, don't know where the other 20 comes from.

Short answer is "don't". NATOPS says not to do it.
Longer answer is "you can use flaps below 225knots" when in automatic sweep mode. They'll jam when the wings retract so start retracting flapsby 220, maybe 215 to stay safe since they don't retract instantly. Historically, Tomcat pilots did use them like that.
Slats are all automatic.
DLC is a whole 'nother thing. I don't know if you can use them in a dogfight when the gear is retracted. I also think the button that controls the DLC turns into the counter measures switch when gear is retracted. I can't quite remember, it's been awhile.
I'd have to break out the NATOPS and look it up. I haven't played the F-14 in years.

Notice in this screenshot where the wind is coming from in the variometer below the altimeter, and notice what the rate of ascent is from either of the variometers, other one is below airspeed on the right. Not all gliders will have live wind data but you can just find out the find direction before taking off. Redfor rotors have more sovl.
It's also easier to launch Vikhrs in the Ka-50 than Hellfires in the AH-64.
OH-6A is probably the best "trainer" in the sim (and free), but Huey is a close second. Bare bones, no systems, no assists, just you and the control linkages.
Mi-8 would be the Russian equivalent, but power management is a bit trickier, visibility is worse, and you'll develop a habit of always wanting to land helicopters straight-in like a fixed-wing aircraft.
The Hip is my favorite thing to fly in DCS, it's a big awkward 250kph-cruise battle bus and making it dance is a joy.

November used to be their "Autumn Sale" but we'll have to see what they call it this year. Never let FOMO drive a purchase in DCS, even if it's a key part of ED's business model.
Their standalone sales through the website usually last a few days longer than on Steam. Standalone also lets you trial most modules for two weeks and gives you 10% back in store credits.
Steam will give you refunds when ED tells you to pound sand, though. You can also buy on Steam (with regional pricing) and transfer to standalone, but not the other way around. Pros and cons to each.

That's a good idea but it doesn't seem to make a difference, there are auxiliary tanks which I presume are tip/outside wing, but even at 100% it still does it. This is with a 12kts crosswind runway at 90 win at 120 ish. Now admittedly in a crosswind you would use some aileron, but surely the plane tipping over from it is madness. I'm going to ask the dev as he seems to be active, it could be I'm doing something wrong.
Anonymous No.544311740 [Report] >>544312029

>but surely the plane tipping over from it is madness
It could be just the crosswind not being countered enough by your ailerons mixed with MSFS exagerating a lot effect wind has on your aircraft. In both DCS and Xplane I find myself not having to correct that much, meanwhile in MSFS it's like you're a leaf in the wind.

I've never experienced anything like this in any plane, using the ailerons to counter the wind to keep it on the centreline yes, to stop it from tipping over? No. It could be because it's a 2020 plane that hasn't been updated for 24, and something weird is going on.

That the aircraft itself is more than adequate for the job. More so than all the other competitors even when you consider a possible return of FCLP/CATOBAR.
This was apparently even stated by someone within the group of people that will choose the winner around 2027-2028, but I don't know if I understood this well since officially the USN hasn't yet examined the aircraft.
But basically it's more of a:
>yeah, even if your jet was to be the leading choice, you don't have enough clout in the Pentagon and the moment we award you the contract, "lobbied" senators would immediately launch a smear campaign (using the joint russian origin) forcing us to play a defensive game.
I can kinda understand where they are coming from, but when you remember the Constellation class (FREMM) shitshow is basically the fault of the USN alone... You reap what you sow.
Also apparently Boeing can literally make up the WILDEST claims about being able to roll out a fully navalized version X months from the award of the contract WITH NO ADDED COSTS and they will take them seriously. Textron even received the cold shoulder by some politicians in Kansas which is absurd.
Since the USN ship has sailed pun intended I hope we might convince the Canadians to buy them, even if they are strapped for cash at the moment. Last week they did a small presentation of the 346 in Ottawa.

the eyewall is one big (mostly) laminar flow, as long as you aren't at an angle where you're sheared apart and your climb rate stays below the G limit of your airframe you're good.

Sources say penetrating the eye is the most demanding and dangerous part of the hurricane flights, inferring that the surrounding ring of thunderstorms do not pose an equal or greater threat,
but a squall line or air mass thunderstorm by itself has the energy to rip transport category aircraft apart, even with a momentary encounter.
Anonymous No.544543140 [Report]
I'm also seeing a statement that the job of the flight navigator is to navigate through the hurricane weather, so either the thunderstorms aren't that bad compared to the wall, or that the aircraft avoids the worst weather just like any other commercial flight, and the wall is the biggest threat because they are committed to flying through it.

>The 1943 Surprise Hurricane was the first hurricane to be entered by a reconnaissance aircraft. The first tracked tropical cyclone of the 1943 Atlantic hurricane season, this system developed as a tropical storm while situated over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico on July 25.
>Upon becoming informed that the planes would need to be flown away from the storm, they criticized this policy. Instead, Colonel Joe Duckworth made a bet with the British pilots that he could fly his AT-6 Texan trainer directly into the storm. Duckworth requested that Lt. Colonel Ralph O'Hair, the only navigator at the field, fly into the hurricane with him. Because neither Duckworth nor O'Hair believed that the headquarters would approve the flight, they decided to proceed without permission. Thus, Duckworth and O'Hair became the first hurricane hunters.

Interestingly it has the vertical strakes like the M-346, which the russians with the yak and the chinese with the L-15 had decided to not adopt.
