It wouldn't actually work for TF2. There are literal mountains of garbage unusuals and the reds are in most cases actually rarer than unusuals. Most of the reds it wouldn't actually be economically viable to do the trade, there's only a few it makes sense for. And even for those you're looking at something like a 1->5 key price bump at best. All the ridiculously overpriced bullshit in this game is resistant to this because it's all limited time stuff.

The only way I see actually crashing the economy would be making it so 5x craft hats gets you an unusual. But even then that only crashes the renewable market - Halloween or seasonal unusuals are still going to remain the same price. Another way would be making a metal to key converter but all that would do is just inflate unusual prices 10x of what they are now and probably necessitate a new intermediate currency again like buds
