Survive is such a weird game for me. I can't really say it's bad and honestly I do like it. But it could've been so much more then it is. This feels like a fucking anime OVA that got thrown into being a game but they didn't really have much to add so the cast just meanders a lot. The atmosphere and vibe is cool but I think the main problem is there's no real pushing force to get the story going. The kids want to go home but unlike Adventure 1 they don't have the "we have to stop the forces of evil in the digital world because they're fucking up the real world." so it's they just kinda waddle around. Not even the MASTER is actively chasing them to eat their ass.

The biggest flaw with Digimon Survive, is that Devil Survivor exists. It's not really Digimon Survive's fault, their only real crime was picking a somewhat similar name, that forced comparisons to mind.
Devil Survivor, especially 1, manages to accomplish more with its characters and narrative, despite not even having the excuse of being a "narrative first" experience. Devil Survivor has a fantastic narrative AND great mechanics. Digimon Survive has a more plodding and less interesting narrative, more flat characters, and then has basically disposable gameplay that only really exists because it has to. I can't really name specific instances or vibes, I am just way, way more interested and intrigued by the characters and scenarios in Devil Survivor than Digimon Survive.
Gun to my head, it's the bigger focus on character drama, without the characters really being deep or complex enough to shoulder that burden. Devil Survivor did a fantastic job of portraying people coping with the collapse of society, and people gaining power no human should ever have, while Digimon Survive STARTS with a very good basic premise for the characters, but between the pacing and heel dragging the game takes in going anywhere, most of the characters just seem very very flat. There's some interesting scenarios, in the conclusion to things being forgone, and just watching the slow motion disaster approach, and veing unable to do anything about it, but none of the scenarios feel... I dunno, believable?
Like, Yuzu's slow mental breakdown and obsession with escaping, this makes sense. This is a way humans break.
Midori going completely power drunk the moment she gains something akin to super powers, and acting out a fantasy when shit is crumbling, this makes sense, this is a way humans break.
Fukkin. I can't even remember his name. "My dad was hard on me" guy with the Lopmon, just being an asshole, with the erratic patterns he does, is a very odd state of being.

My biggest complaint.
The fucking parrotmon bait and switch.
The fukkin gameplay trailer, where they showcased how metallic digimon interact with the lightning in the parrotmon fight. That was the most interesting thing in the prerelease information I saw.
Turns out, that LITERALLY only applies to that fight. I'm fukkin pissed about that. That was just a scam.
More of those kinds of trait interactions should have been in the game, and it's such a shame there was no effort to do it anywhere else.
Also Vulcanusmon was the only fight in the game I was truly satisfied with. More fights needed to be as grueling and intricate as that one.

Unfortunately I had too good of a team for Skullseadramon, since I had mostly figured out by that point the Virus bias, and my own Skullseadramon absolutely FUCKED that section of the game anyways. I mostly just blew through its phases and steamrolled over its mechanics. I regret this, since I've heard it is a highlight.
But yeah. More like those should have happened, and especially a lot of the later game bosses were just pretty flaccid. Maybe I had just gotten above the power curve.

Same as above. Taking into account the entire history of the genre, TS is well above average. If strictly talking more modern things? Well it sure as hell shits all over modern Pokemon. Could say SMT is still relevant, but I could go either way between TS and SMTVV honestly. Monster Hunter Stories 3 is probably gonna also be really damn good judging by what's been shown. Rest of the genre currently is mostly the indie scene so yeah TS has a solid step up over them.

I mean. Every Digimon game comes with caveats. World 1 is obtuse and needs a guide to know anything. World 2 is slow and grindy as shit. World 3 is also pretty slow and rife with backtracking. World 4 is World 4. Dawn/Dusk are grindy as shit and every area is a maze with mandatory filler sidequests to progress. CS/HM have shit translations and stuck with 90% of the areas being the same generic cyberspace. Next 0rder has a host of issues. You need to like VNs to like Survive because the SRPG aspect is so minimal.
This isn't EVERY Digimon game but you get the picture. These games have their own positives, some even over TS, but they come with sometimes major downsides.
Time Stranger, for all of it's own faults, has the least caveats to it's quality and is all around the best put-together Digimon game.

In Erika's case, the only reason she was even a victim to begin with was because she was trapped by the Eater due to her physical state being shit, not her mental one. The bits turned on her when her illness flared up again. Takumi would need to clear the Eater Legions, which are near indestructible to get to her, same as Keisuke did. You always had to connect jump AFTER the fights against Eater Eve, Eater Adam and Mother Eater (1st phase). Not even mentioning that she would die shortly afterward anyway, so it would be an even worse scenario, if he hypothetically got to her.

Digimon has been around for years and they didn't know what identity their games should have. Habu discovered that story games are consistent selling point and revived the world vpet gameplay despite Bandai thinking the majority of people would not like this type of games. I mean the last DQM game came out only 2 years ago. Problem was it had absolutely dogshit marketing for the West, which is just the norm for DQ outside of Japan.
MHStories 3 has the potential to do pretty damn well. Stories 2 did better than they expected, to the point they actually bothered remastering and porting Stories 1 to modern systems, and 3 is looking even better.
Obviously nothing will come close to Pokemon but I feel the Monster Taming genre is actually doing better for itself these days.

Takumi was a much better tamer than Keisuke who struggled with the likes of Yu and needed big assists from Arata and Erika to beat Arcadiamon. Eater Legion is only a problem for Keisuke because he's a shitter with no good feats of his own. Meanwhile Takumi beats all Royal Knights, all Seven Sins, combats Yggdrasil units, and Arata himself who. All things well above Eater Legion.
Erika's illness is a separate problem from what problems I was talking about and your insistence comes off as a concession that you know you backed yourself into a corner.
Solving Legion allows Erika to be the one to go to Eden and not an imposter larping as her. My problem is we kill her and her memories are her legacy, but not she herself.

If they ever decide to make another Digimon Survive game, they should just go for a pure visual novel style with Dungeons & Dragons style dice rolls determining outcomes.

In both games there are numerous digimon that cause sizable levels of destruction and or humans outright abusing digimon. (This is not even including the overarching threat these games focus on)
