When I was messing around at the end of my last playthrough with some debug warping to unused rooms or just messing around, I ended up finding out the name of this Black Space room is Incubation. That stood out to me as really odd. Incubation? As in life being created? In this room you finds versions of your dream friends dead on the ground and split, swimming in red pools, or their heads sticking out of the walls like Basil's is here. Is it implying their being born here? Like in the insane unnatural ecosystem of Headspace, is this where Omori's dream friends and sister are "born"? Or maybe it's just a room based off the idea of incubation with no grander implication. Strange either way.

If you really want to do something with the characters you could just try and draw a semi-short comic. Seems to be much more doable then a full blown mod especially if you already have a basic frame work in mind.
Maybe even use that as a testbed for putting your ideas out there.
Making the comic and see what you did right and wrong and even think up of new ideas when you put the ones you have on paper.

That way when you think up of a new character for something else you want to do you can take what worked.

No literally, I fucking hate how much I've wasted my time on this shit.
MOONATIC has swallowed me whole and I hate it. I gravitated over this project created by some lameo, and shit got so bad that I had begun making my own take to fill the empty space for all these characters. These designs I fucking adore but for all I know nothing good will come out of them. These characters that'll probably never see the light of day, due to them being tainted a perverted fucking loser that can't talk without his dick. I'm left with over 2 years of drawings of the same 5 or so characters drawn and seen so differently that when I see actual "official" material come out I don't know how to feel about it. This is an autistic fixation at it's WORSE. I care more about this shit more than he ever could and I fucking hate that.

There is genuine tragedy in seeing good designs go to waste. Gone too soon, so soon we didn't even knew them. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't put some thought into those characters myself. It's kind of like its own form of escapism. I still think there's some promise in an unapologetically Earthbound-like game centered on a group of soon to be friend shelping some mysterious weird girl find a way to the moon.

The issue now lies in, what should I do now? I've wasted so much time that should I keep going? Do I actually commit into making something that will always live under a negative connotation and make the best fucking thing I ever could with these characters I've wasted my life on, or do the thing everyone the past 2 years of my life have said and cut my loses and make something that doesn't have to be tied to this carcass of gluesticks and strings.
Do I want to be associated with this shit and take what gets with being involved with that. Knowing that despite anything I will do, will always tie back to the hands of some awful person who pretended to be fucking Kel from OMORI then got a DMCA take down to stop doing that. Who also got exposed for a bunch of other shit and pretends like he isn't at fault in any single for that?

There is shit still being made as recent as this year, I was supposed to work on the mod, but I could never get to it as I was busy with college, work, and him being a overall pain to work with. I don't even know why he hired me, he knew that I had a vision that didn't match his and yet he still wanted me to work on the game. My artstyle is literally just a more crude version of OMOCAT's style, how would I help him in trying to beat the OMORI copycat allegations

I should say there is one great thing that has come from this THING. All the art done by all the artists that have come and gone for this game is genuinely amazing. This also includes the music done for the game, I personally think it's amazing.

There is one track, it got scrapped to my knowledge but it's something that I think is on par with OMORI and I wish it can be heard one day. It's a simple song, but damn it has that emotion and it's fucking amazing.

While writing this, I got self conscious on how much I care for this shit, god its embarrassing.

Personally I'd might make your own thing but you don't have to change too much. I recall one idea someone had in the past was just having Moonie be blonde and wear a NASA shit lol.

Honestly if you do still try to go down that route it might actually do you more good then bad the association. Anything you do with the idea will be seem like gold compared to him and no one will complain about you using those ideas.

Yeah that's proably one of the things that caught people's attention. It's amazing how he stiffed people out of money that were doing most of the work for him while he bought a 1000s buck VR headset for someone he wasn't even dating.

i said it earlier but i think you should do your own thing with the characters, whether that be heavily based off of the original moonatic stuff or your own entirely new story. if you're worried about the connotations of "stealing" the characters you can probably just make light tweaks to their designs and pretend they're your totally original donut steels (completely changing the art style could also help with that if you're willing to try)

I honestly wonder about that. Rowan feels a little incongruous with the current story in a way. Because if Basil at this point of development as Rowan still comes up with the idea of framing Mari's death as a hanging so Sunny doesn't get in trouble, it makes his character look worse. He drags his best friend into being an accomplice in framing the sister of said best friend he loved so dearly as a suicide to cover up what happened that night, leaving the image of her hanged corpse with an eye open burned into said brother's psyche, and then Rowan gets pissy at Sunny for wanting nothing to do with him after that? That's pretty fucked.
Although to be fair, this is all just conjecture since we don't really know all that much about Rowan and what version of the story he was conceived in. Basil seems to have been swapped in pretty quickly since he has concept art and sprites dating back to 2013.
