Started reading Onigokko the other day. This is my second Alcot game, the first being Clover Days. I'm normally very picky about moege. I drop most of what I read and unless a game is able to click with me in a certain way, it's uncommon for me to even finish a single route. In Clover Days I was able to finish four of the five routes, though. This was unusual so I decided to grab another game by the same company.

Well, this ain't no Clover Days. Despite having a more unique setting, this feels generic and bland. The plot feels like something a Yuzusoft game would have, which is a negative to me. The common route is short, but I felt like dropping it by the end of it, so I decided to read some review and spoil myself a bit to see if I wanted to continue. From that I've decided I won't be reading Kureha's or Otome's routes, so I'm axing half the game right off the bat. I have an interest in Akari since she has the same VA as Tsubame in Clover Days, and I like her voice a lot, so I'll try reading her route at least. Maybe I'll try Kana too, or do the imouto in the fandisc. I read in another review this has a lot of delay in the initial romance getting going, with lots of fake-out crap to make it take longer. If that's true, that's something I absolutely loathe and will probably make me drop the game soon. We'll see I guess.

Anyway, I don't think this is a high quality game. It makes me wonder whether it would be worth even trying other Alcot games, despite them making something I did actually like.

I mean, I don't hate it, but I could probably write an essay on all my problems with Gikei, the VN is so unbelievably fucked and all I can think is that they ran out of money or time and just had to ship what they had, it's a disaster. I've always liked horror (books and movies, games to a lesser extent). I have a specific interest in found footage horror. I also read books generally, not just in that genre. It's just awful. The writer who did her route (that's the only part of the game he wrote) didn't even try to make it consistent with the rest of the game. MC is basically a different character, the humor switches to violent slapstick shit, etc. Her route has a good setup to redeem her character and have an interesting story (I presume someone else wrote the very beginning) but the writer completely squanders it and does everything wrong. If I'd read that route first I might have dropped the game. It made me mad honestly. Especially because I liked Tsubame so seeing her lose to this shit character/route pissed me off a lot. Also the plot ends up being about helping that side character girl (the class president) in a debate competition or something. Who gives a fuck.

The issue is that this is what the game was about from the start. The first scene is Tomoya and Ushio in the illusionary world. The light orbs are there in almost every route, you see them being used and you're told what they are. The theme of Tomoya's relationship with the town (that is, family specifically and more broadly, society) is there from the start (his first line of narration is "I hate this town"). All the routes explicate the same ideas in different ways. The resolution regarding Nagisa is the completion of Tomoya's character arc, it cements him as part of society, and thus as part of a family, and that isn't a one-sided thing. The light orbs function not just as symbolic representation of familial/societal happiness but as a karmic form of the mutual love within a family, or else why do you think they grant wishes? The entire game is an idealized depiction of "family" in its various concrete and abstract forms. So like I said, I think you just have a problem with what the game was fundamentally about. And that's fine, you don't have to like the game, but the ending isn't something shoehorned in to get a specific ending.

These games are glorifying crimes, idc if i game has sex, or if a game has crimes in them as long as they are handled properly, having an avengers moment but it's because you got caught sexually harassing people is just glorifying a crime.
