So am I since I think that's one of those moments. The way it's structured in the VN makes more sense on a plot level, but it loses some of its emotional momentum, especially if you end up having to go back and finish other parts of the game before you can unlock it. The anime version keeps the momentum going. Also as a minor point, in the anime, since Tomoya doesn't save Nagisa in a different timeline, but in the same one, he retains all his memories of everything that happened while she was dead, which I think cemented his character development during After Story a bit more. I've always thought the anime and VN were complementary to each other in ways like this.
