Where I throw smokes depends on the terrain. I throw them in places that will block the enemy's line of sight of the objective. Where that is exactly varies from objective to objective and where my team and their team currently are.

Throwing them all over the objective or between you and the objective is correct if you're on the offense. This works in every game, not just BF. Retaking a point even as defense, they can be useful too.
Obviously reviving team mates it's good for too, or getting access to an area in any mode.
In BR, they're nice to reset a fight. Like if you're doing duos but your friend is dead and also their friend is dead, you can toss three smokes down and re-plate and reload while they chase you around like a retard trying to finish you. This is something that wasn't possible in a BR like PUBG because smoke takes too long to deploy.

Thing that annoys me about my team throwing smoke near or at the objective is that longer range players who already had line of sight are taken out of the play because we can't see the objective anymore. You have to run into the smoke, which is fine occasionally but let me make my own choices about when to rush in.

When I had only bots the bots actually push the objective fast as fuck, I sprinted to the opposite side of the objective to mow down as many enemy bots as possible but that just means yours will cap even faster. I take my M240L with the bipod, 75 round belt, a silencer, and thermal 1.5.
I find a corner or similar cover near an objective from the direction I know they're all gonna sprint blindly into it from.
I then mow them down until they finally realize where I am or I have to reload at which point I throw smoke and relocate.

I played the bot farm breakthrough mode yesterday to grind a sidearm and after like 200 kills with only one pistol I still didn't have a suppressor unlocked

I have 4 of the maps disabled (the infantry-only small map since I don't play anything other than conquest, NY or whatever the other infantry-only map is, operation firestorm and blackwell fields). I haven't played a BF game since 3 but holy shit the map selection for this game is so fucking bad.

Defense is a camping snooze fest, Attack is just face rushing objectives with smokes hoping your team is capable. ye it's a long range-fest no matter what, but I think the big egregious issue for infantry right now is that the southern portion has genuinely zero cover. At least with the northern portion there's some hills and trenches to use to cover your advance, even if it's still long sight lines. Can anyone who successfully transitioned from controller to KB&M for flying vehicles explain to me how the fuck you did it? I haven't played a BF game since 4 on console but back then I was my squad's helicopter pilot and without sounding arrogant I think I was extremely fucking good. I'm playing BF6 now and tried to fly with KB&M and I can barely keep the helicopter in the air, let alone hit targets or do any sort of maneuvers. I plugged a controller in and all of the muscle memory is still there and I can fly pretty well, but I can't help but feel like I'd be more accurate with my TOW missiles or something if I was on KB&M, plus it's just annoying to have a controller sitting in my lap just for when I'm in an air vehicle.

Obviously unbind the comma rose from Q. Another thing to note is that there are two throttles in BF - throttle up and afterburner. This is stupid and if you want to speed up you want to do it as quickly as possible so bind both to Shift. That being said, BF6 specifically introduced thrust vectoring controls, which activate on afterburner (but NOT throttle up) and throttle down combined with a pitch input. I'd advise duplicating afterburner and throttle down on the side mouse buttons so you just press them both and then S to engage thrust vectoring. Also bind both roll AND yaw to the mouse X axis, it sounds dumb but having yaw on the mouse massively helps with micro aim adjustments.
That's for planes, for helis enable the assist and keep the controls mostly stock (bind Assist Gain Altitude to Shift instead of space). It gives you functional War Thunder-like mouse aim that even aims your weapons in a cone around the boresight, making rocket runs and TOW shots trivial, but is especially crucial in heli dogfights.

This is fucking weird and I don't know a single jetfag who does it like this but if it works for you then it works. Everyone I know uses spacebar for pitch up and control for pitch down while keeping w/s for throttle and a/d for yaw. I have q and e bound for rolling but I generally only use it for very specific situations like when I'm in loss of control state. Thrust vectoring is also only for the f22/su57 and cobra-ing will get you killed in 98% of situations. But since they'll prob never change v-tapping there is another amazing general use for the buttons associated with it.
Assist on helis is w/e but it'll get you killed on any map that's not Manhattan.

There is zero cover for air vehicles aside from one small mountain range on the northern end of the map, and you can get locked onto no matter where you are. You can actually lock onto jets taking off from the northern end of the map if you position your AA vehicle properly. The air vehicle out of bounds limit is also fucking tiny for a map this size, so in a jet you almost can't avoid lockons by running to the edge of the map. It's the worst map for air vehicles by a fucking mile. Horrible map.
