I really love the setting, beach with HoT jungle really nails the sweet spot for me, also you can see they used all the techs from previous expansions to create the maps. Story is really burger nothing, everything drags you to the last mission, they forget about rewarding you with cool plot bits on the journey to it. Dont really care about specializations, ritualist feels too disconnected from the first game to apply it to my main.

As someone running it as Asura it certainly feels that way. There are a few tidbits of extra dialogue scattered throughout.

Sylvari HoT will always be the GOAT but I'd say Asura VoE comes in second. IBS was a bit of a disgrace, I still can't believe you kill part of your Warband in it and there isn't even a throwaway dialogue mention of it.

A shitter who scales the event more than he contributes isn't going to understand when to help in the first place. If you're pulling your weight, you can absolutely make a difference by switching areas.
If there are no shitters around, then the event isn't going to have any problems anyways.

It's unclear if the drills even have separate scaling for all of them or if the event just scales all 3 drills at once for players in the area.

I'm new, bought-in and enjoying the game but I'm 90% sure VoE is the last expansion and they'll announce GW3 in a year. GW2's population will drop off a cliff and make it nearly impossible to do a ton of content.

They're already making GW2 expansions using a separate team from the one working on "GW3," and if they have the manpower to create a new game without dropping support for GW2, they definitely have the manpower to support that game while continuing to make GW2. They've also used the word "sustainable" pretty often when talking about the current expansion model, AND they've publicly talked about how it was probably a mistake not to continue making GW1 expansions after GW2 launched.

It just makes a lot more sense and is more consistent with the other things they're doing and saying if the plan is for GW2 to continue being their only full-on MMO, and then for "GW3" or whatever it ends up being called to be a more focused game with a smaller scope like Fellowship (or GW1, for that matter) that's meant to diversify their revenue streams rather than just replace one with another.

Live maintenance and making xpacs is far less resource-intensive than developing a game from scratch to begin with. It can be, but your mileage may vary. Some people actually liked the hour long exposition dump in JW because it set up a lot of interesting, potential new plot threads. As for the other expansions, objectively they're handled a lot better. LWS1 and 2 are probably the worst in terms of conveying the story, the former because it's just a stitched together frankenstein of content once thought lost, meaning it's missing a lot of stuff from the original run, and the latter because it's just poorly made.

HoT the story direction gets a lot more interesting, and then from there it peaks and slopes throughout. LWS4 is generally regarded as the high point. After IBS it slopes big time again, and with this latest expansion it feels like they're starting to peak again (but they'll probably fuck it up).

For the most part Luminaries are doing a scarier Willbender burst and Hare Evokers are stacking invulns and damage modifiers. Galeshots are Sic Em Soulbeasts in terms of threat level but with scarier buttons. Troubs are melee bruiser virts with comperable damage a lot of the time. If an Evoker has a Fox icon you can instakill them. Hare means they instakill you. Toad means they want to stand on a side point and spam daze and barrier. Otter is a support.

More or less, yeah. It's basically the patch content between expansions, like the x.1 through x.5 patches in FF14.

The content in it varies quite a bit. LW1 is free and the current version of it is actually relatively new because it's a reprised version of things that were released near launch and then removed.

LW2 is paid and is honestly a bit of a ripoff because it's pretty much just story, since the maps associated with its content are free. There also isn't an expansion between LW1 and LW2 (it's just an artifact of how the game's business model shifted over the years.)

LW3 and LW4 are paid and are generally worthwhile because every chapter comes with an entirely new map. LW4 in particular is arguably the peak of the game in terms of production value.

LW5/Icebrood Saga is paid and mostly worthwhile but it falls off a cliff at the end. There are three maps with it and they're pretty high-quality, but two of them are split across two separate chapters, and then the last chapter is just a bunch of instances that take place in old existing maps. There's also no expansion between LW4 and LW5, because ArenaNet was going through a phase.

After that, all the content is just included with its associated expansion.

all you need is unblockable hits, instant burst or a few multihit attacks because they block after a few seconds but get stunned after blocking 3 hits
