they make a pretty good difference due to skill levels (some characters get additional effects on their skills at higher levels too) and training (which gives a ton of stats)
but there are several sources of character selectors in the shop and fairly good currency income so if you focus you shouldn't have much problem getting dupes on your characters that matter

For running out timer it's still SH3, unless you have SH11 unlocked. You'd also be nearly maxed out on cubes/relics for the most part by the time you get SH11 unlocked, at which point you should finish up Cube/Relic series 1 slowly from idle loots and such.

No, you only run 3 units for optimal SH3 farming. Also, no auto using skills. Alternatives would be your highest dps with Lisa card + multi-target weapon. But you might lose out on timer efficiency.
The reason you only run Lua/Kay/Nymue is because they have short animations and Kay and Nymue don't have animations on skill 2.

Lua targets everyone pretty much with max skills + dual blade + Lisa card which is why she's there.

Your alternatives would be to find a team that clears the mob wave fast enough for you to already be on the next wave before the timer ticks 1 second. You can only do this with characters that don't have long animations or active skill animations.

Not sure how early game you are but keep in mind running 3 units only takes the average of 3 units + 2 level 0 units, and not an average of 3. So farming efficiency may be affected.

though dian is on my main team, i don't feel particularly compelled to chase her dupes once her banner drops

Did a quick numbers test on NA cause I love Cow Queen. Same sync level for both, nothing changed except slotting in Cow Queen. First run was done at reset.
Previous score with optimal KR team (Vivien for Cow Queen): 757 M
Current score: 997 M (33% increase just by having Cow Queen sit there)
Cow Queen has perma -25% def down which is pretty nuts. Also ult is a free 20% additional dmg (5% additional dmg is roughly 20% raw atk/offensive stats, Cow scales off HP)

Lua's card is just a generic card that's good for getting DPS. Arondight + Tempest Helmet/Ring = 30% crit + built in character crit gets you 35% alone. With training buffs it's close to 40% so pretty usable for any melee units without crit chance buffing built in

belsey has surprisingly better survivability and damage than i was expecting
her card having damage reduction is also nice and i've been trying different pet combinations than i'm used to

I only have 119k diamonds and basically no tickets, only 2-3 selectors. I’m not into meta chasing but it doesn’t seem like I can just grab my top 5 favorites and use them all the time as far as I can tell, it’s just way too inefficient.
