Once again: combat is not the main focus of survival horror games.
Yet you DO have to fight from time to time, in which case you are the underdog. But via honest effort and mastery, anyone not mentally limited can learn how to deal with any encounter effectively. Most of it simply boils down to sitting down, planning a head, scaling risks and rewards, and making mental notes whenever anything new and out of ordinary pops out.
tl;dr: Resident Evil has great gameplay, and they are some of the most endlessly replayable games.
SH2 and RE2-4 demakes absolutely butchered the gameplay, pacing and replay value with their generic as fuck, action-oriented designs that everyone loathed already 15 years ago.
