Early section of the game is a horrible way to start, and that wooden plank is a horrible little starting weapon. You don't get any sense of power and it's pretty lame. Iron pipe has really strong swings behind it.

Team Silent had their chance and they blew it. They made ti too moody, too atmospheric, too laid back, and it didn't click with gamers at all. The first 15% of the game is really bad for new players with the long walking, lack of direction, and how easy it is to get confused.

Gamers in 2001 didn't find this game that compelling.

I don't think you know what the product was supposed to be because the original dropped so much ammo and health out the ass, it was begging to be a combat heavy game. But the devs made the mistake of making the enemies so slow and cumbersome, there was never a reason to fight or be afraid. So when the remake addressed that, you trannies shit your pants.
I literally can't wait until the SH1R remake so that you shit your pants and cry and moan about the combat, when that had even more aggressive enemies than 2.

Original camera for comparison. Melee is kind of awkward and the player is constantly hitting the camera button to reposition it, so that the camera is behind the player anyways. It is a bit harder to judge distance without it.

original camera makes melee especially quite challenging and not rewarding. Harder to judge distance, harder to see the enemy. Early game combat is quite dreadful until you get the handgun, so it puts a lot of players off.

Melee is very awkward in the original.
