REmake
Im finally giving this series a try and decided to start with Resident Evil 1’s GCN remake. My only other real survival horror was Silent Hill 1-4, so while I’m fine with the memory-game puzzle solving stuff, the gun combat and ammo/corpse management is throwing me off.
How do you successfully “juke” enemies? Is there a way to guarantee headshots beyond just aim up?

Just gotta learn the safer pathing or lure enemies to one side if you're in a wide enough space and go the other. Some enemies should have you wasting your resources on them as they are in a dangerous spot for you, others you can safely ignore. How to figure out which is which? Which enemies do you have the hardest time avoiding? Prioritize those.

If you decided to start with REmake specifically because it's the most modern classic game (along with 0) to ease yourself into the series then I can assure you that it feels jankier than the original and is also overall more challenging. I recommend starting with the longbox version of 1 for the PS1 and then just playing all of them in release order

You should have started with the original game, the REmake is literally designed with the mindset that you've played the original. Alternatively just start with 2 if you don't care that much. It's a much better game.

In the REmake headshots with the shotgun aren't guaranteed... unless you wait for the zombie to rush grab towards you, he'll have his head down a little during the animation; but it's risky.

I have no idea what "juke" means but if you're talking about baiting them, you tap forward and then backwards to make them attempt to grab you, and they'll fail if you managed to walk back successfully; at which point it will leave you a several seconds window during which you can safely run by them.
That's assuming you're not playing with the "analog" camera centric controls of the remaster in which case >>11855551

A dirty little secret of the classic REs that people don't like to be honest about is that the games are actually really easy and you get enough ammo to more or less kill anything you need to kill. Just make exploration saves where you don't give a fuck about your HP or wasting ammo and explore parts of the mansion to see what's there. Then just reload your save and you'll have a good idea how to handle the area more carefully.

Also don't bother with the knife and if you enter a room and there's just a single key item that you'll never need again, don't bother to clear it out. Just grab it and leave. These games are actually pretty easy.

Because it's annoying when all you have to add to a conversation is
>omg you dared to play that game instead of my different game?! Ugh! UGH I SAY!!!

I legitimately just said that it's better to start with 1 if you want to get into RE, nothing wrong with starting with the first game in the series especially considering the fact that, as I've already said, it's also an easier game overall

There's no way to guarantee headshots. It's pure RNG. The magnum isn't even a guaranteed decapitation. The only semi-exception is that the first shot from the shotgun after you acquire it is coded to always be a critical hit, so save that for one you want to be sure to get rid of.

Shotgun headshots are only guaranteed in the original game, remake is inconsistent about it.
Also you should play the original anyway, I recommend Director’s Cut.

The original doesn't have most of those issues.

It's much easier to start with that rather than the GCN remake.

I wouldn't worry about these things as a new player unless you're bored or something it's not necessary. Just focus on good positioning, keeping a light inventory and take your time exploring. Pay attention to the map it tells you if you've cleared a room of items.

If all else fails remember that RE1 is actually a very short game and can be beat in a couple hours if you know what you're doing. If you end up completely fucking yourself in terms of ammo and healing supplies you can just start over instead of trying to mimaxx your way through the rest of the game. Your second attempt will be much, much faster because you won't be totally lost or unfamiliar with the gameplay. That's how we did it back when it first came out because nobody really knew what they were doing yet. You're not necessarily supposed to plow through it your first time

And before that delusional zoomer chirps in with
>actually the first time I played it I played on hard with Chris and finished it in 1.5 hours with 5,000,0000 rounds of ammo left and zero damage
Yeah, congratulations on being a liar. Unlike you I was actually there.

I would say it's way too late for that but someone's making a 2D Terminator 2 game 30+ years after the fact so I guess you never know. All it takes is a couple dorks who are hardcore fans and a kickstarter campaign

Just think about which hallways and rooms you have too much trouble with avoiding enemies, and if you think you are going to backtrack them a few times, and kill all the enemies in the room and burn their corpses so they dont turn into crimson heads. It's pretty simple. As far as dodging zombies you have to wait until they turn enough at an angle where you can run past them while being out of their grab range. Sometimes it feels like you can rub up against walls and it gets them to turn a bit more.
