oh lies under ice was alright, story was good but characters and romance options were bland as fuck
so if you prefer the former over the latter then I recommend
Oh boy another thread 100% guaranteed to devolve into shit-flinging, and MAYBE discussion of three whole games!
I'm giving this one... 40 posts before the inevitable.
>>3779002It's a drought at the moment so nothing we can do besides shitposting.
>>3779002>trying to start a flame war this early in the threadsorry xister, we need about 100 posts on infinity before we do that
>>3779002Three? Buddy, it's gonna be Aura Clash and Infinity. People already don't care about Unsupervised again.
Is the bird cult game worth checking out in its current state?
>>3779010I'm not sure it's going to be worth checking even when it's complete. I tried to enjoy it, but it just tries so fucking hard.
>>3779010yeah different branching paths and a unique story makes it one of the more interesting WIPs out there
>>3779010I think its interesting looking into the mind of a german, but its incredibly unfinished and hard to read because esl
>>3779010It's a case of the author's ideas running far ahead of his actual writing abilities.
>>3778968Im playing Fallen Heroes rn, come join the ride!
>>3779120LGBTQ grooming are getting increasingly elaborate huh
>>3779120I already read through the two released games and it's pretty good for capeshit but damn the third one has barely started development
>you will never see a perfect evil waifu like daeran in cyoas
>>3779149beautiful
are there any cyoas that come close to having a LI or character like him?
>>3779152If you squint very, very hard, maybe The Count in Diabolical, Wakefield in the first Choice of Deathless and maybe, maybe Lilith from Unsupervised.
>>3779149I don't know if I'd really use 'evil' as one of his main descriptors, even if his alignment is just so. But maybe it's just because he's overshadowed by the OTHER evil companions in that game, who are fucking ridiculous in one way or another, making his absolute egotism seem downright milquetoast.
That aside he gets fucking massive points as romantic interest because he goes out of his way to make his desires and feelings VERY clear without faffing around like 99% of ROs in games of ANY genre. And now THAT is something I'd love to see in CYOA more often, especially when it's not the other extreme of being clingy for no reason.
>>3779163daeran is more like jaethal where they have the evil alignment because they are incredibly selfish and are out for their best interests first and foremost. wenduag and cammers are just retards who happen to be evil because they are freaks who can't keep their murderboners in their goddamn pants. regill is really weird because he's autistically devoted to law, and isn't the usual lawful evil archetype who's only lawful out of convince and bend the law to their benefit, he's perfectly statisfied with aeon, he's just also has the hellknight retardation of being overkill in everything they do and thinking they are so badass because they flay recruits who arrive 2 seconds late to training.
>>3779200Dont say that about wendy...
>>3779200I mean yeah, I agree. Thing is, evil has kind of become synonymous with the more out there wackjob type, so whenever it's used it plants a certain picture in mind. I think if most people dealt with Daeran as a person, they'd see him less as evil and more as just an asshole, which is also how the game treats him most of the time. Even the most L and G companions tolerate him well enough most of the time, because unlike the entire rest of the E squad, he's not actively making the world a shittier place.
I mean technically neither does Regill but that's just because the Hellknights are too busy serving a useful purpose to go around oppressing and executing people for stupid shit, which is usually what they get up to during downtime.
>>3779120not finished and really sidesteps the original premise of "be a hero turned villian and take revenge on other heroes" and turns it into the MC having weird trans stuff with the puppet and the real reason he turned evil in the first place is because some alien thing mindbroke him into being evil. also the real bad guys are some shadow government organization. Basically the entire thing is spending time hanging out with the people you should be planning on humiliating and ruining the lives of and learning "oh they aren't so bad after all maybe I should go to therapy" which is LAME
>>3779202>he's not actively making the world a shittier place.atleast not of his own volition. being a conduit of an evil eldritch outer god that wants to destory reality is probably half the reason he's NE.
>>3779201I like wenduag (or atleast tolerate her more than lann) but she is absolutely a retard that needs to be constantly wrangled by the KC to not do retarded shit like starting fights and gangs and selling out to some jobber demon and turning her tribe into cannibal retards.
>>3779212You're right but her character progresses so nicely...
>>3779213>character progresses so nicely...she's bipolar as fuck. and her romance finale feels a bit unearned with her going "I still don't believe in not being a Massive bitch all the time and goodness but I guess I can try for (you) anon". and then she goes right back to shaking people down for money and starting a gang in dance of masks lmao. she really fits for an evilfag and lesser extent neutral KC, but she really doesn't feel like she grows muxh as a character, sure she opens up to the kc on a successful romance and chills a little bit, but it feels like any attempt at self improvement from her is solely because what she thinks thats what the KC wants, she never becomes self aware.
>>3779212>spoilerWell yeah, that's what I mean by not doing it actively, in addition to being a living fucking resource vacuum (but so are many other nobles far as the game shows so lmao) and having an 'interesting' definition of what funny means. He's a menace, but he's a menace to general decency more often than anything else. You basically have to push him into being worse if you're Evil yourself, and you can un-Evil him if you're not though as I recall that doesn't necessarily end well for him
Anyway, this is getting off-track, since the quibble with that was about how people perceive the idea of an evil character, but the bottom line is that Daeran is best girl.
I mean unless you play an actual psycho at which point having a murderous romance with Cam is pretty funny, though her ending is a robbery, like girl I have SO many resurrection scrolls and know SO many clerics, if you kill me they can just bring me right back
>>3779216I dunno that's just what I'm remembering, I haven't played wotr in a while, and wendy atleast has some redeeming factors, unlike CAMMERS
>>3779218>though as I recall that doesn't necessarily end well for himit ends well enough for him if you get the true romance flag, the KC and Inquisitor dude vouch for him at his trial, so he gets off far easier with the inquisitor oversight being more like house arrest than padded cell. or you could just do the ascension ending
I only played wrath of the righteous to enjoy turning people into undead thralls in my lich kingdom.
damn the hunter exam in aura clash is kinda cute

>>3778963 (OP)>my beautiful nymph wifeBut bro, your Melaxu?
>>3779149>waifu like daeranIt hurts bros. .
>>3779201He's not wrong bro.
>>3779202He really should have been in the 'true neutral' category. Not because he tries to fine balance but because he disregards each end of the axis completely in favor of 'what best serves me'. I can only see that as Neutral Evil if I squint very hard.
>>3779255Well, Neutral Evil was historically the fallback for just being a selfish cunt anyway. To quote the Pathfinder SRD (which is of course nearly word-for-word the original D&D 3.5 definition)
>A neutral evil villain does whatever she can get away with. She is out for herself, pure and simple. She sheds no tears for those she kills, whether for profit, sport, or convenience. She has no love of order and holds no illusions that following laws, traditions, or codes would make her any better or more noble. On the other hand, she doesn’t have the restless nature or love of conflict that a chaotic evil villain has.and,
>Neutral evil characters care only for themselves, and do whatever they think they can get away with. They place no stock in the ability of laws or codes to protect them, and thus don’t bother to follow them. At the same time, they’re less spontaneous and prone to whimsy than chaotic evil characters. It DOES fit for Daeran. The problem is that his Evil is on the lighter scale of it, specifically because he lacks any interest in MOST things that cause misery to others. It's just that if an idea pops into his head that would cause people to suffer or even die, he's likely to shrug and figure that it's their problem.
Compare this with Wenduag, who very much DOES want to hurt people to prove she's the strongest, and betray them to prove she's more cunning, and whatever the fuck else - and figures that anyone weak enough to be a victim deserves to be. That's NE too, but far more to the other end of the scale.
Anyway to address the actually on-topic parts... no, Lies Under Ice isn't horror. Unless I just somehow ducked and weaved my way through a secret route that goes that way or something. Or lucked out into a route that avoids it.
Honestly possible, I have a bad habit of accidentally ending up on meme routes in CYOA, like hitting the metaplot route in Brante by pure fucking autistic commitment to a gimmick run.
>>3779255> Sounds like horrorno not horror, more like science and fiction(?), near future stuff, you lead a scientific colony to one of jupiter’s moons, europa
it’s more story focused so keep that in mind if you play it
>>3779258DnD alignment is such a bad alignment system
>>3779269It sure fucking is.
I don't think any other part of that system is responsible for nearly as many stupid arguments and misconceptions both on- and offline.
Is the poma's patreon version broken or just the passwords in choice of mods not working?
>IF has a high word count
>A lot of it is spent on descriptions, desert dry world building, or empty prose
>story and dialogue barely exists
>>3779281Pretty sure the password in the main thread (poor_ai) is for the previous version, I guess the CoM paypig who used to share got tired of paying for jobbing.
If you search in the dedicated PoMA thread you can find a beta version of the update which doesn't require any password.
>>3779307the golden rose?
>>3779309Among others, but to it's credit it did just enough to get me to finish it.
>>3779308>I guess the CoM paypig who used to share got tired of paying for jobbing.I mean I certainly would, if I paid for it previously. There's no payoff at the end of the ride, it's just more of making the MC eat shit.
Aurabros, which style did you find had the most flavor? I just checked the game out for the first time with the sword style and am curious if its worth going through the game again to see any particular interactions, same with the elements. Is it possible to get 3 elements rn?
>>3779340I mean, depends on what you mean by flavor. All of them have unique events, their own trainer, and a few special options for dealing with problems later. So is the question which one has the most of that, or which one has the most interesting unique content?
>>3779010it is, german esl is much more tolerable than any other esl desu, and the story itself is interesting enough, though i do think there are too many voleries honestly
and he doesn't hold back when it comes to controversial stuff, like sexual assault, suicide or gruesome murders
>>3779364Well the only ones I've played are the sword and the swolemax style. One of them you already know, the other... had a few funny moments, a few "funny" moments, one or two cool moments, and some acknowledgment that it's actually - albeit by pure chance - the style you're "supposed" to have, given the school you're at. Except you know, all natural, and with no fucking formal training, because your master is a seething little bitch. But I don't really recall anything that blew me away.
Obviously can't speak for the rest, but I recall people saying/complaining that the 'ninja' style gets a whole bunch of free shit for merely existing, which does suggest at least a decent amount of minor unique content. Although I would very much like to know if any of that free shit comes from doing that technique stealing shit it's supposed to be doing, as that's the main draw, but I refuse to commit to a third goddamn playthrough without knowing if it's gonna pay off.
>>3779340Aoyosumu and Kiihakai came up the most often from what I remember.
>>3779377>and dbz fans are either black or hispanicWrong, I'm Australian
>>3779340I like playing Kiihakai. The game allows your character to invent his own techniques and Kiihakai gets one extra on top of them, and fucking everyone up with ki blasts is fun as well.

>>3779383That's the magic one, right?
How much actual weird magic shit does it do, compared to just blasting fools?
>>3779002Would you look at that, it was AFTER 40 posts
>>3779387There is a bit of extra utility, like in chapter 7, when you take your siblings to search for spirit fruits, if you are Kiihakai, you can use a ritual to locate them without any legwork. Moreover, a lot of your battle checks are modified to include the hand seals skill.
>>3779387In chapter 7, to normally skip the fight with a fleet, you have to blow them up with a massive bomb
Kiihakai user enchants the ships to go faster and zoom past the fleet causing them to fire on one another on accident
>>3779340Akakiru is the best because it's the most cinema.
Aside from that, beast style gets you some extra content with the cute foxgirl and magic monk style gets you the best mentor (kung-fu Jesus)
>>3779258Lies Under Ice felt kind of weird in how it gave you backgrounds. It's like the Exocolonist issue, but somehow worse - everyone around my military man PC felt like such a hippie.
>>3779393She's a wolfgirl.
>>3779340Aoyosumu gets some cool flavor if you wanna larp a holy warrior, and I reckon it will only get better as the story ramps up with the demonic making more appearances and you developing precognition.

I'll probably still pirate it, I greatly enjoyed that rice farming autism simulator from a few years back.

making an actual game with an actual narrative with actual characters spamming Proper Nouns in actual dialogue in a setting that has been carried thus far entirely by absctract schizo lore blurb presentation is a recipe for disaster even ignoring how shamelessly he's aping Disco
Ehh Failbetter still has semi-decent writers (Which puts them above the CoG/HG wannabes)
>>3779514True, but they're mostly working on FL itself and don't have much of an influence on their actual games. It's almost impressive how much worse the writing for Skies was compared to Seas, for me the only standout storyline was the schizo ambition you can only take on NG+ for some reason.
>>3779514And one of those writers and their creative director to boot dropped the company to write one of the most underwhelming releases in recent memory for CoG lmao.
>>3779525Elite Service seems like it was written solely to scam you into buying a full game. First sequence is decent, everything else is nannying a tech retard, rich retard who can fuck you over right before epilogue and a guy who forgives you cheating on him with everything under the sun.
>>3779525All her best work has been for FB anyway, her earlier independent IF is nothing special. Even her work on FL isn't what I'd consider top-tier, she did write some great stuff for Sunless Sea and Skies.
>>3779522>don't have much of an influence on their actual games. You think their company of 15 people in total has separate teams? What is even this cope?
>>3779559>You think their company of 15 people in total has separate teams?Where did I say that? I don't know what their writing process for Mask of the Rose looked like (nor do I particularly care) but they've always been pretty open about how their previous games were written, with each port and major storyline each being handled primarily by one writer. You can just look at the credits to see the single biggest reason for the drop in quality between Seas and Skies.
>>3779587Yeah, and if you actually look at those credits you'll see the old faces like Chris Gardiner, Richard Cobbett, Emily Short, Cash de Cuir et cetera. There was no substantial change in the writing team beyond Alexis departing.
>>3779392July 4th and it will still miss some companion quests because anon is a hack.
>>3779601I think losing their narrative and creative lead might have had a bit to do with the shift in direction between games. I was especially disappointed because I greatly enjoyed Chris Gardiner's work on that Dragon Age webgame nobody played, but apart from the moment-to-moment gameplay I thought most of Skies was inferior to the first game or, at best, equal. My favourite content in Skies was written by someone who wasn't even Failbetter staff but an outside writer - Harry Tuffs - who'd made his own game heavily inspired by Sunless Sea (A House of Many Doors, which was great)
>>3779606The rumours that it will come with ch8 better be true. If we spent over half a year waiting for half a chapter, there'll be zero reason to believe AC will ever be finished.
>>3779622The Sunless Sea/Sky situation is odd.
I will admit that mechanically speaking Skies in the much better game but overall it just doesn't have the same 'sovl' as Sea's.

>>3780058I got Ruby. Personality definitely works better for a chick I think. On a chick it's a little endearing but on a guy I feel like it would be obnoxious
>>3780061Alchemy is actually the single best thing to focus on right now, regardless of class, it pays off massively in AP gains if you grab all the treasures. Handseals is the second best since it helps with cycling.
The rogue abilities (thievery/stealth/deception) are probably some of the most underused, you don't suffer much from neglecting them outside of missing out on some shards.
I would like more opportunities to be edgy and stab people with my darkness/aka combo.
>>3780065>you don't suffer much from neglecting them outside of missing out on some shardsYou also miss out on getting a free treasure from the school treasury, and if you have I think 4 total between stealth and thievery you can grab that AND a skill manual AND a bunch of other shit
Having actually tried out AC now
Everybody realizes there's no way this will fully pay off on everything it promises, right? This isn't being a smug cunt or anything, it's just... it has too much. So many styles, so many elements, so many skills... Is there ANY CYOA that's good for actually fulfilling the mage fantasy? I tried several CYOA that seemed to focus on being some type of mage/wizard/whatever, because I figured, you know, those that tell their own story where mage just happens to be one of the many things you can play won't have the luxury of focusing on one specific archetype, they have a lot of plates to spin and a universal story to tell besides. And the results so far weren't very good.
>Life of a Wizard flops because Mike Walter seemingly can't fucking stop having two dozen skills/meters that compete for the spotlight and turning every game he makes into max-maxing simulator
>Choice of Magics ALMOST has potential, but squanders it pretty fast by proceeding to skim over or fast-forward through so much you barely feel the weight behind your decisions
>Mage Reborn feels like it REALLY just wants to get to the end and has shockingly little to do with the Mage part at all outside of a few moments (also a lot could be said about the imbalance in how it treats the different magic types)
>Fatehaven is too busy doing some weird meta shit to really care
>Way Walkers goes fucking nowhere
I know there's a lot I haven't tried, but I'm getting burned out here.

All of those have an incredible visual presentation.

As is the fact his FL-era work is remembered neither for its character writing nor even for the actual narrative. Muh lore and muh setting are his main two strengths though I'm increasingly doubting even this as he seems to only be able to write Occult Bongland, and both of those will suffer for an attempt at an actual narrative game set in them destroying the mystique crutch.
>DE doesn't have a monopoly on the CRPG format. You're being obtuse. It's copying Disco's format tit-for-tat down to the dialogue UI.

I don't expect you to be a loyal shill like me, but Book of Hours looked very different to how it turned out. It's even my favourite game of his, believe it or not. In it, he showed that he can craft a narrative, even if non-linear. The story of Hush House was quite compelling, and so are the different incidents in that game. I recommend giving it a shot to catch a glimpse of what's in the works. There are even letters attached in the game files that I liked reading.

What I do not love is Six Ages' split personality, as it wrestles with both telling Your Clan's story and the general story it wants to tell, to an even greater extent than original KoDP did by virtue of Six Ages being an episodic experience continuing the story of the same clan and thus requiring definite end/start points. Unlike the precursor I really felt like it's limiting or downright ignoring me at times to get its plot out.

>>3780664>Are there any other benefits to estate?big betrothed boobies
big estate bucks if you invest right
between Loch+high relations betrothed you can avoid more stat decay than going capital
if you do squire Renard, you can both set up Hawkins+sis and get a nice loyalty boost to your troops
estate route is the only way to improve your relationship with your mother/sis/bro (lol)
My biggest problem with estate route is that it's up in the air how much any of that will matter in Wars. You would think having a future Duke in your corner (the achievements related to squiring him are "Second Father" and "Red Son") who's been neutral during a civil war would be the most impactful choice you could make in Lords but maybe the only thing that changes is whether Renard is addressed as a knight or not. Same thing with printing money. I could see how making 2k crowns biannually could mean having more independence in your decision making in Wars, especially if you developed your land instead of relying on rents during the coming commie revolution...or maybe debts don't matter and all that income amounts to nothing. ARC/antari militia/Hunter sainthood/clubs/Welles&Kat romance either are going to get a big payoff or already have their stuff wrapped up in Lords, while all the little things you can do on the estate route aren't really clear how they'll play out.

>>3780808>What issues did you have first time around? Spread your stats too thin or just focused on ones that didn't synergize well?yeah a bit of both I think, and just feeling frustrated in general with the writing because its feels hard to tell if you actually succeeded or failed with checks.

>>3780834no idea. I don't know if even welles knows what actually went down. but I do agree that wulfram and co severely misjudged isobel thinking she would back down. I don't want to be all up my ass being le enlightened centrist saying both sides le bad, but it really did feel like the conflict only escalated the way it did because of the nature of the players of the game. isobel is too cynical and stubborn, wulfram too idealistic and stubborn, for any form of reconciliation to occur. and I'm just stuck in the middle trying to ensure my duchy doesn't starve. maybe if cunaris made an effort early on to form a faction formed on moderating the two parties we could have prevented civil war, but he's so detached from politics that he only shows up when things spill over to violence and we need to enact a marital law.

I just don’t think she would do that of her own volition, if she were following orders then maybe

I just wish these games didn't cause an internal conflict between my desire to commit fully to the roleplay, and the deep-seated need to optimize and do as best as I can.
I'm cursed with the wrong types of autism at once.
>>3780887>>3780889Why not roleplay a powerhungry minmaxer?
>>3780890Well, for one, doing that every time is a bit tiresome.
But far more importantly, that works in some games, but not others. Like you know, you can justify being a power-hungry psycho in something like Wise Use of Time where going apeshit with time control is its own route, or any of Mike Walter's games (Life of a Wizard, Last Heir, etc) since that guy basically designs every game specifically for power-hungry minmaxers both in and out of universe... or rather max-maxers, as you ideally want as many stats as you can as high as you can get them.
But then you take even something like Infinity or Keeper, where the real powergaming most often comes in meta-knowledge rather than anything the character would have real influence over or aspiration toward. You might have to do some weird shit sometimes knowing it'll let you reach the right threshold for something down the line.
>>3780887same, but only for some games
Infinity is driving me fucking mental with how tight the checks are, where you basically have to plan your entire playthrough to get the most out of it and the gap between doing and not doing it is ludicrous, and it has those asshole little bonuses that don't actually make enough of a difference
for example if you have less than 60 soldiering talking to Cazarosta before the camp assault, it raises it by 4. fucking 4. when all the checks and the majority of other boosts are in multiples of 5.
like I don't mind it if the reward for tryharding and metagaming isn't that substantial, but it's very much not here
>>3780906That +4 is actually massive when it comes to breaching 50 soldiering treshhold on a 50/60/70 spread for the 18 year old dragoon. Thanks to it + stat gains you can get in Lords, you can actually end the game with barely any stat loss and keeping up with the most common breakpoints.
>>3780906sabres is evil in how it does stats. being from aetoria is practically required if you want to be smart or charismatic as an 18 yr, which bugs me because lords actually has some reactivity with what region is your home region.
Speaking of Infinity and stats, I'm still sore and seething about the fact being a soldiering autist only REALLY pays off a few times, probably leads to getting fucked hard by middling charisma or intellect - which can usually make up for a mid soldiering score anyway - and then later on you're basically just eating shit almost continuously for being way out of your element.
>but it makes sense
I don't give a fuck, stop having meme stats.
>>3780917Works on my machine
>>3780917Depends on what you mean by soldering autism build. The 65-70 soldering 18/25yo Aetorian shouldn't feel handicapped at all. If you want 85 or higher soldering, you need to sacrifice one of the stats. Probably charisma is a better dump stat. I had an 85 sol, 45 int and no charisma build, and the only times it felt handicapped was when it couldn't do the staff meeting before Kharangia or couldn't mentor Renard. Otherwise it was business as usual, and didn't feel like eating shit continuously.
>>3780755I somehow managed to finish the game with relative success by only investing in archery and wisdom. Even killed the giant snake thing and allied with the Stormraiders. It felt like a path you aren't overall supposed to play, given how sparse and barren it all felt and Galimar magically disappearing.
>>3780829Checks out.
Will you be giving Pon Para II a go?
>>3780856>you DID choose to share a bottle of wine with our cute little elf friend, right?Ofcourse! I could never fight a second battle at Karangia without having a drink with my malewife!
Fair points in regards to Kat. But I still don't put it past her. I need to pay more attention this time around to how events unfold.
>>3780914I mean you can be from anywhere and as long as you pick the stat you want to be best at + the gift that boosts it you will have as much of that stat as you would need for the rest of the series.
>T. 75 int Salt Coaster>>3780917I feel your pain anon.
>40 Sol>40 ChaI can't do shit unless I can think my way through it.
>>3780925How useful was archery? I didn't invest in it.
>>3780917>>3780930Honestly I think the real issue I have with Infinity is that it's so weird and inconsistent in what it expects. Most of the time you're rewarded well enough for being well-rounded, since a lot of the checks - especially in the first game, I feel - are less "are you a bad enough dude" and more "you didn't dump X, did you?"
But then it blindsides you with really high checks out of nowhere, and suddenly you start wondering if it expects you to alternate between hypercompetence and bumbling by having one stat really high, or if the math is just off in some way and what Wangs THINKS you should have and what you'll probably have without metagaming your stat spread are wildly different things.
Or you know, I'm just somehow shit at a game that barely has mechanics.
>>3780925>allied with the Stormraiders
>>3780937I think in Sabers it's way more unforgiving because all checks involve your base stats which you can only barely influence a few times instead of how in Guns and Lords you usually can use other things than that like your rep, relationship, and even your past decision. Basically if you play Guns and Lords a few times you probably know a safe choice where you can pass even with low stats but in Sabers you can fail everything because there's no real safety net.
>>3781060the saftey net is sucking up to either caz or elson so that they make your sol/int dump less painful. but yeah there's no real way knowing they'll help you out beforehand lmao

>>3781752people pay them to write, not to finish
>>3781752They don't, but it's bad business not to.
These "games" never get finished for the exact same reason WEGs never get finished, a permament early access unfinished mess that trickles in content once a blue moon is an infinite money glitch.

I've been playing genealogy of the holy war, its kino. I think I really like grand war stories with plotting and intrigue on the side, along with idealistic/chivalrous characters that end up shooting themselves in the foot with their actions. defending his territory from brigands spirals into sigurd crusading across multiple countries and taking out all their leadership, first it was verdane and him trying to rescue the kidnapped aideen, and then later when agustria's inner politics spills into a full blown conflict he interferes to help out his good friend edilgan and ends up steam rolling everyone else. we as the player know sigurd has good intentions, but everyone in the grannvel court gets antsy because holy shit sigurd just conquered two other countries while we where busy with the isaachan war, which allows arvis and a few other lord's plot to pin an assassination of the prince on sigurd and his dad. Its kino would reccomend/10, and infinty should be more like it. TLDR wang make wars already you hack I need more stuff like this I need to make a wulframite save at some point if only so I can have a duel with caz in wars
>>3781945Not a game but I think you would enjoy the anime Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
>>3781945>spoilerC'mon man you just KNOW that either he's going to auto-win somehow because 'lmao better than u' or at BEST he'll somehow get off easy no matter what you choose upon victory
Caz will join the baneless commie revolution and he'll be killed by either the royalists or wulframites. It's his destiny to be the most hated asshole in Tierra after he betrays everyone.
>>3781952you really think wang would let his gary su die off like that? no he will die in glory and statues will be raised and songs will be sung of this baneless heroes deeds
or he might have isobel fully legitimize him, making him heir over kat or giving him another land to rule over
>>3781950>he'll somehow get off easy no matter what you choose upon victoryI could see that maybe happening if wulfram doesn't become more rutheless during the war, I remember when talking to garret at the end of lords about the hangings and how it could have been us up there if we lost, she surmises that wulfram's character wouldn't lead him to go that far, even for backstabbing traitors like us, because at the end of the day we are banebloods and that still means something to wulfram. she thinks the worst that would happen is a permanent exile
>>3781954though it might be a moot point then if wulfram hates deathborne bastards like cunaris does. on the subject of cunaris, do we ever get a real feel for why cunaris despises cazarosta so much? Yeah cazarosta is deathborn but I'd think cunaris would be smarter than to let that blind him to the worth as an asset caz continually proves to be. I'd understand if its because he doesn't like cazarosta's cyincal, often ruthless personality and when it comes to his men/command, because it would be in character for cunaris. it just feels really petty that he shoots third squadron in the foot, when I know cunaris can be practically minded enough to know that caz is too useful to handicap, even if he hates the bastard.
>>3781949I'll definitely check it out at some poinr
>>3781959It's the best anime ever so yeah it's good.
>>3781956Cunaris is livid when you butcher just 1 village in sabres and cazarosta made it his career to butcher civilians in the woods. It was still happening under orders, but that doesn't change the fact that caz was getting off to burning houses with women and children inside.
I'm skimming a few of the early scene files for Sabres before playing it (as I always do with these games to know what to expect mechanically) and man. It's really made with the assumption you'll eat some shit the first time you play, isn't it? Well, that or by the grace of the Saints or something luck into the exact right combination to smoothly carry you through.
It's not even about the specifics of the checks, it's the fact you get fucked pretty hard for failing some of them. I don't know. It's fine to make things easier as a reward for success, but when you also make things harder as punishment for failure, you make the gap awkwardly large, if you ask me.
At least it's better than Life of a Wizard and Lost Heir, those games have the baffling fucking design of ONLY rewarding you with skill increases if you succeed in the first place, or at best giving you a piddly increase when you fail but large when you pass, in flagrant defiance of common game design logic.
>>3782012just cheat in max stats at the start dumbass, the infinity series is a retarded wannabe novel in the first place
>>3782012>I'm skimming a few of the early scene files for Sabres before playing it (as I always do with these games to know what to expect mechanically)Christ
>>3782022>not reading the entire script beforehandI've noticed wrong if statements multiple times, retarded stat requirements that dont make sense, missing breaks that mean scenes never trigger properly
not reading the script is retarded
>>3781945Wang can't work on wars because he doesn't have the money.
>>3782023I firmly believe that the first playthrough should be done blind, even in the case of Sabres. Yes, there are several dubious decisions on Wang's part, it's easy to gimp yourself out on some stupid shit (I will always shit on the early promotion bullshit or the biggest sucker option in the series, the dragonlocks) but if you think about what you are actually trying to accomplish you should still do fairly well. The future playthroughs can be done while checking stat requirements in the code, and just reading when you are trying to find some obscure scene that you would have to hunt for hours otherwise.
>>3782025I have never played a single choice of game without reading the code and I've basically read all of them
>>3782026What are your favorites?

that recent fox game, excluding the ending
the first FH, when I thought it was an honest villain game and before it devolved into mental illness simulator
that werewolf game where you have to fight the vampires in a city
stars arisen had best starmom, but zero good ROs
there was a chinese-themed game where you were the reincarnation of a mountain or something, I liked the heaven girl there
crown of sorcery and steel is good since it allows you to do a full villain playthrough
the entire tally ho series thing is good
there was a wip called fervency, I liked that it was you basically being a vampire cannibal and eating people that was hot
psy high 1 was good since it allowed you to get the magic power for yourself in the end
heroes of myth also had an interesting girl in the form of the demon, kinda sad you had no villain options though
deathless is also a good series, although I liked the first more, the second had no decent ROs if I remember right
a wise use of time was good since it allowed you to be a murderhobo
choice of robots is kino
I fucking hated creatures such as we, I seriously remember to this day that I hate it, impressive
mecha ace was good, has best boy
choice of the vampire is good since it's pretty long
I also liked that choice of kung fu game, it had a cute fox
tale of two timeskips quickly fell off towards the ending, but it was decent
wayhaven started decently enough, now it's slopmaxxing
fernweh is interesting, I hope they don't fuck it up but they probably will
the passager was good-ish
samurai of hyuga is cancer, I dropped it by the third book or something
mage reborn was middling, and the sequel is even worse
I think the gray painter was interesting, lame ending however
golden rose has too much yapping, but that crazy guard is cute
soul stone war is retarded
kiss from death had very interesting stories but I hated the meta narrative
I think lux, city of secrets kinda fell off
>>3782032>keeper before it went to shitIt's even better now thoughbeitever
>>3782032war for the west was mid I think? or was it another swamp game, I'm talking about the one with the retarded aliens rugpull
I liked breach
the last wizard was decent
highlands, deep water I didn't like
lost heir was good
those zombie games where you lead the group started decent, but I hate group management so I don't like them much now
there was one called vampire house, the girls were cute
study in steampunk I disliked for the railroading towards the end
tin star was good
fateheaven had a dumb metanarrative
I liked life of a mobster, life of a wizard etc
way walker started decently
paradox factor was interesting, not really into the ending though
the one wip about birds and magic was cool, I don't think it's gotten any updates tho
same for the vampire school thingy that god a rewrite
or the other game where you can have a yandere RO and you're in school or something
I think that's all the ones I played, there's probably multiple WIPs I forgot
>>3782033I disagree, I dislike railroading
>>3782022I can't shake the feeling you've immediately made some assumptions that are almost certainly not true.

That is the Question.

>>3782099>Thaumaturge's problem?He knows he's a fucking npc in a shitty game.
Speaking of Unsupervised, is there any point in trying to get all elements to max with that power-set, or should I just be satisfied with one or two
>>3782103You get so much XP points as an elementalist that you'll usually end up maxxing out 3 or 4 elements anyway on an average playthrough
>>3782103All the cool kids max electricity and fire.
>>3782099Man, I love super-senses, but the fact it's so often just things you can get in other ways is beyond disappointing. Since their specialization is ultimately investigation, and that's pretty much just the central plotline with VERY scarce opportunity (or reason) to snoop around on the side, you mostly just get a fast-track and easy mode on... what every other powerset would be doing anyway.
Although I will give it one thing, if you want to never be challenged by anything, it is THE option. You basically cannot fuck up anything, and will have all stats maxed out like 2/3rds of the game.

Why is the royalkek dragoon so unhinged in his internal monologues? Up until the later chapters of Lords, the main character never seems like a fanatic. Even the idealist is just a bit overly optimistic. Then he suddenly starts thinking wild shit about grabbing a gun and killing all traitors and how he would work for the Queen even for free. I hope ACanon doesn't make Jack too weak. I want the finale of this arc to be an ultra instinct clash with Jack, each of us at full power. The power displayed between us being so grand that the other competitors turn green with envy and lose any face they got during the competition, including the demon masquerading as a human. I'll be disappointed if I refined a bunch of souls and spent time training I could have spent with my family just for Jack to be some jobber who can't even withstand a single kick without folding. That, right there, is the feeling and painful acknowledgment by the Genre Savvy viewer that Failure Is the Only Option. Why? Because The Woobie is not going to get to keep her money and move out of Perpetual Poverty. James Bond will not stay Happily Married to the Girl of the Movie because of the Cartwright Curse. The home that The Drifter has been accepted into will promptly become a Doomed Hometown. Samurai Jack will give up the most recent Phlebotinum to return to his home time and Set Right What Once Went Wrong in order to save the helpful villagers nearby. Ash Ketchum will make it to the Top 4 of the Season Finale's Tournament Arc only to lose to a random Canon Sue who owns Olympus Mons. Charlie Brown will get the football yanked out from under him by Lucy once again just as he's about to kick it. And deep down, we know it and expect it.
While the permutations are endless, the result is the same: writers Yank the Dog's Chain, keeping the bone just out of reach, making even the simplest goals seem like Tragic Dreams.

literally the only game I would consider that did a "sequel" properly is something like lost heir, and even that is more like a huge game split into 3 parts than 3 distinct games that need to depend on the state of the previous game
sequels demand a canon path to continue the plot and canon paths are anathema to CYOAs

>I should create something like a vertical slice of all of Tierran aristocratic society in a single gamebut when you do know what his original plans were and look at the end results, you can see he heavily trimmed down things to make the game actually feasible to finish. >>3782718Burning out is far more likely than them getting lazy. I create Wegs with decent profit too and the main game i work on did become a real chore but at the same time it pays my bills and rushing it could ruin my reputation. I also work on a side project, and frankly i give it more time than the main one so it is not laziness or not wanting to work on this kind of stuff.
I would say finishing the main story hooks before starting to actually create the game did help a lot, also knowing i will do a maximum of 6 chapters and then decide if i want to create a sequel or start doing something else. My advice to Anons who want to create something would be. Create the main story hooks first; know where you want to end up. Keep it at a reasonable scale. Diversify early; do not get hooked on one particular genre or theme. If you feel like you burning out, slow down, take a long vacation, or just do what you enjoy. It is much, much harder to get back to it if you actually burn out.
>>3782022What's wrong with that? Most COGs are fucking awful with their mechanics, knowing the stupid shit in advance can help a lot.

Course of Temptation is such shit that I am not surprised the fag stole it off me mentioning it once. He seems to steal most of my recs.
Still haven't found a porn text game that was both non-grindy and actually good either.
>>3784088The game just need anime portraits like DoL had and it would have been fine.
>>3784089Try having more reasonable expectations, the sort of person to make a good porn text game is almost certainly autistic and autists are fond of grindy games. Be on look out for Corruption of Champions 1 mods, be it the xianxia one or the /hgg/ one.
>>3784089Some of the era games are like that. They're all descended from trainer games with corresponding progression though, so if you count that as grinding it's likely a no-go as well.
>>3784092I mean, I enjoyed Trigaea and plenty of mobile browser MMOs, but CoL failed in making grind affect much. Yeah, I can level up my studying and spend less time on grinding homework and lessons, but the best way to earn cash and get to know people is still whoring yourself out at the bar because of how annoying submenu system is. Doing sports doesn't seem to affect much in terms of bodytype perception, growth of hair doesn't affect shit overall either, you can overpower and breed literally every single supposedly dom-only person by repeatedly mashing preferred position (and most of them were cuntboys), fetishes and preferences of your partners aren't tracked anywhere, relationships don't particularly matter, me fucking at least 1/4 of the campus gives one random event during lectures and nothing else... It's both grindy and makes grind feel incredibly irrelevant. At least you can customise everyone to have rainbow hair and fat ass, I guess?
>>3783974Programming wise its very good, easily flows when writing which is why its games are so much bigger than competitors. Quicktest and randomtest features are divine godsends for finding bigs as well and for some reason Twine still doesn't have anything like them. 75% cut is robbery though, it would only be acceptable if the store's 30% cut came out of theirs alone.

>>3784272thats kinda funny because it's not even like wulfram is some kind of major misogynist, wang makes it a point to display how wulfram and his wife are co-operators and that she's as much involved as he is with their campaign. he just wants to defund the military full stop because of the wartaxes starving the commons

>>3783986>isn't that the one that made the first girl you meet, a demon succubus aromantic or whateverI guess it makes sence, since she is a suckybuss, but the aromantic part is only in the last few chapters where she gets autistic about only wanting to fuck you, but it's completely illogical because she is constantly overprotective and clearly has feelings for you, she even violently coerces an eldrich being in to going to limbo to save you. get a real fucking job you hack! tell your lazy ass wife to get her fatass up and work at a tim horton's!
HACK! hack hack hack!
it would be ludo if one day its revealed that "hack!" poster is wang having a schizo episode and seething at himself
>>3786051are you straight up hallucinating now
the only thing he's done in the rometranny's thread recently is suggesting that PoVs should be an option that you can turn off and being a himedanshichad basedfacing over getting his daughter into a toxic yuri marriage being the golden route
>>3786135why are you crossposting from reddit
>Infamous' new chapter is 150k words
AIIIIIIIIEEEEEE CULTIVATOR-SAMA DON'T LOOK!
>>3786158>one game released yesterday>one game released today
>>3786154only about 15 more chapters to go!
>>3786159Name these completed games.
>>3786163In the Hall of Asgard
The Last Scion
>>3786165I will play these games.
>>3786151why are you on reddit?
>>3786180Your image shows up in google lens.
>>3786165>300,000 words total>200,000 words totalnice introduction chapters, wheres the rest of the game
Can you play a Salubri in any vtmb games?
>>3786190No. You can hope that Wang's game will be set in Jiānádà province, PRC, so maybe you'll get to play a Wu Zao.
>>3786154>no demo updateoh
>>3786190Sorry chud, no such thing in v5
>>3786240Salubri are in V5 though sis
>>3786165>In the Hall of AsgardThe first few pages were enough for me to drop it as Marvel slop when it used Marvelslop bullshit for Loki. Clearly author never even touched the Sagas, the actual Loki is way more interesting.
>The Last ScionWe want to make a Superman game without calling it a Superman game, because unlike VtM slop that would be too expensive to get rights to. Because Warner is greedy unlike PDX.
>>3786296*greedier compared to
Gomenasai
>>3786296aren't you the one shilling for the Chinadian Gundam knock-off
>>3786367I like Mecha Ace if that is the one, but I don't talk about it much. If I were to shill a Wang game it would be Kendrickstone, it had potential with some of the world lore. He should have stuck with it.
I am just judgemental, because i did read the Sagas, and I forever wish for some game do them justice.
>>3786381>If I were to shill a Wang game it would be KendrickstoneKek, good one.
it was claimed earlier in the thread that wang’s new WoD slop will have you be a thin blood, and an anarch
is any of that true or just conjecture?
>>3786166>>3786165Both games were clearly based off Marvel and DC and weren't very good.
>>3786405the wang WoD game will have you play as caine
>>3786491Oh god, please no, he will fuck it up. He will never be able to capture the spite that Cain feels for his retarded descendants.
>>3786552Rudi will be one of the prominent characters and likely also an RI.
>>3786585Add Ross the she-wolf, please.
>>3786585Thank god I have five cans ofbeer im me. Tis won't make me amgry.
>>3786405Anything thin blood related is dogshit so yeah I believe it.
>>3786405He had a forum post saying that his current project has you at the very bottom of the hierarchy and that you'll be fighting for your rights or something. He also offhandedly confirmed his project is about vampires so there isn't really much room for guesses.
>>3786681>fighting for your rightsI always thought the anarchs are kinda funny as a faction. like they are the "dude weed" and teen angry at society faction, but they are also still bloodsucking vampires with muddy morals at best lol.
>every Infinity RO is either a hag already or on her way to become one
At last, I see. Wangzi's all-encompassing, grand design...
>>3786681>you'll be fighting for your rights or somethingso anarch thin-blood confirmed then
fucking dropped
>>3786773but the Rudi romance :3
and he is a gangrel with animalism :3
>>3786780>black gangreltwin no :/……
AuraCoons... I don't know if I'll last two whole more weeks...
>thin blood mc
>anarch
yeah fuck that hack, still trying to pander to leftist communist cucks
stupid fucking hack, I hope his game fails
Aura Clash claims to be inspired by Dragonball, yet it is PoMA that lets me play Vegeta, Gohan and Yamcha...
Curious.
>>3786819Two more weeks after the two more weeks!
>>3786872You're gonna job in the Trials for sure. Mandatory jobbing coming soon, even Jade Dragon Foundation chads will not escape it.
>>3786895>Jade Dragon Foundation chadsThey are cucks though.
>>3786898>only 6 other people in the world have your talent>cuckHow?
>>3786912>play cheat mode>call yourself a chadThat's being cuck2
>>3786930>roleplay in a roleplaying game>"you're a cuck"kekaroo
>>3786898It's cool how you can choose to play as Krillin too.
>>3786938>enable cheat mode>call it """roleplay"""
>>3786951Mate the game is piss easy anyways what's the problem?
>>3786952That's all the more reason to play it normally without cheating. The problem is that cultivator anon made a retarded decision to make Jade Cuckery semi-canon because the game acknowledges it, and then spastics debate how much does it take for the MC to become nascent soul or whatever. It's laughable so I mock you.
>>3786895By the time we get there Wu Heir will reach Ultra Kneelstinct any by that point even a nobody will be able to stop him though
you know it never occurred to me just how retarded vtm actually is
why didn’t caine just… kill off the entire third generation after they killed his sons and his daughter wife he dominated?
it’s not like they could hurt him, and it’s not like they could hide from him, so what gives?
>>3786973The lore in Vampire is intentionally muddy and the splatbooks give you contradictory information on the same events. In part, to allow the storyteller to decide on everything himself, in part to hinder metagaming, in part to evade errors by hired hacks. And so, for example, Lilith might be a powerful demon, an archmage or something else entirely.
>>3786973yeah no shit Sherlock an inconsistent kitchensink does not in fact make any sense
did WoD running on capeshit rules not clue you in on this before?
>>3786872>PoMA lets you play JOBjita, JOBhan, and JOBcha.
>>3787127thanks for explaining the joke
you retard
>>3787127Thanks for explaining the joke, I don't know anything about DBZ and this has helped me understand the rather amusing quip.
>I don't know anything about DBZ
Won't watch spic slop and won't play spic slop.
>>3787127>the smartest dbzspic
>>3786717Seems he's back on 4chan after 2016.
>>3786681Watch it be V5 Sabbat. Anarchs are so fucking boring that even the CoG writers haven't done anything much with them - Courier is an independent and Julian is a retard.
>>3787194>Anarchs are so fucking boringCould you explain? I only know about WoD from Night Road.
>>3786681Yep, I remembered it right
>My current project centres around a main cast which is very much at the bottom of the heap, and it’s going to be interesting to see how people respond to just how little they can do without the institutional power and privilege which the MC here takes for granted.>Not that it means that they’ll be powerless. Unlike in the Infinite Sea, that other MC does live in a setting where liberalism is entrenched and hegemonic. They are well aware of their own value, their own inherent dignity, and their right to be heard, seen, and responded to - and they will have every opportunity to exercise that right as hard as they fucking can.
>>3787196Their whole existence boils down to retarded reeing at everything Camarilla does while engaging in the same and occasionally much worse. They're a boring useless nothingburger for campaigns that try to be special but lack either the self-control for cammie campaign or balls for sabby. They also survived the entire V5 reset mostly intact in the corebook - Camarilla lost the Tremere chapel, Sabbat went underground and split itself, which is even worse than the reddit Bruja.
>>3787200I thought the Brujah were supposed to be Anarchs?
>>3787199>their own inherent dignity, and their right to be heard, seen, and responded towe're going to be part of Rudi's army :3
>>3787194V5 Sabbat are literally just vampire ISIS and they're so obviously not meant to be playable that they state as much in their book lmao
>>3787211Better vampire ISIS than whiny anarchs. I can't remember any anarch vamps in CoG books - either Camarilla or independent, and that's about it. Wang decided to trailblaze the shittiest part of Vampire again?
>>3787219Night Road had Julian and the Brujah doctor, Parliament of Knives also had multiple.
>>3786780Also a shitskin
Bestie,
>>3786803 gets it.
I haven't played a single cyoa since march. Anything worth mentioning?
>not being part of a sect in the sabbat
>not being able to be a good and moral salubri healer
>not being able to be a vengeful salubri warrior hunting down the usurpers
it’s like he’s allergic to making money :/
Any of the VtM games have cute men I can top?
>>3787199>Unlike in the Infinite Sea, that other MC does live in a setting where liberalism is entrenched and hegemonic. They are well aware of their own value, their own inherent dignity, and their right to be heard, seen, and responded to - and they will have every opportunity to exercise that right as hard as they fucking can. This is the gayest shit I have ever heard and I am positive I can kick Wang's ass based on how he talks.
>cultivator anon
>his game isn't even in the cultivation genre
>>3787432Leona is cultivating my sword so it combines perfectly with her sheathe.
>>3787385I dunno if I would call him "cute", but night road has that incredibly faggy "best friend" vamp thats trying to upheave shit so he can be on top I ended up selling everyone out to hunters because I hate vamp politics
>>3787383> not being able to pick the coolest clan of all: tzimisce and be able to build your own flesh chapelI suffer.
>>3787464you would think the sabbat tzimisce would be featured more in this day and age, trannies would probably love to be able to play as a vamp that could change their gender at whim, but for some reason game developers and authors seem to favor the more “traditional” vampire clans like the ventrue or tremere
and don’t @ me about old clan tzimisce, they’re a totally different sect and differ from their counterparts in the sabbat
>>3787452I despise vampire politics so much. The second they try to pull me into their petty schemes I just want to ruin their unlife with diablerie and serial masquerade breaches and uploading pictures of their hang outs to vampire hunters.
>>3787432erm, akshually, spiritual cultivation are the first 2 words of the book and they do cultivate aura. You mean it's not in the xianxia genre.
>>3787480Wuxia is not cultivation. "Aura" is not cultivation.
Cultivation fans are take their ancient chinese DBZ fantasy very seriously, don't taint it with your modern brazilian anime version.
>>3785647Just played the demo. It was pretty fun, but kinda railroady.
>>3787452Fuck, might have to buy Night Road.
I've heard that's the best of the Vamp cyoas anyway? I enjoyed Glenkildove but that's the only WoDslop I've played from CoG so far.
>>3787476They honestly probably keep away from it because Trannies would flock to it and have a 'wait, are we the baddies?' moment whenever they get depicted as the monsters every vamp clan should be (to some extent).
>play game on browser
>realize I don't get steam achievements
RiP
>>3787383>good and moral>Sabbat SalubriI don't think you know what antitribu means bro
