One of them you already know, the other... had a few funny moments, a few "funny" moments, one or two cool moments, and some acknowledgment that it's actually - albeit by pure chance - the style you're "supposed" to have, given the school you're at. Alchemy is actually the single best thing to focus on right now, regardless of class, it pays off massively in AP gains if you grab all the treasures. Handseals is the second best since it helps with cycling.
The rogue abilities (thievery/stealth/deception) are probably some of the most underused, you don't suffer much from neglecting them outside of missing out on some shards.

I would like more opportunities to be edgy and stab people with my darkness/aka combo.

Is there ANY CYOA that's good for actually fulfilling the mage fantasy? I tried several CYOA that seemed to focus on being some type of mage/wizard/whatever, because I figured, you know, those that tell their own story where mage just happens to be one of the many things you can play won't have the luxury of focusing on one specific archetype, they have a lot of plates to spin and a universal story to tell besides. And the results so far weren't very good.

The game is in very early prototype stages. You're calling the race before the horses have even left the stable. I don't expect you to be a loyal shill like me, but Book of Hours looked very different to how it turned out. It's even my favourite game of his, believe it or not. In it, he showed that he can craft a narrative, even if non-linear. The story of Hush House was quite compelling, and so are the different incidents in that game. I recommend giving it a shot to catch a glimpse of what's in the works. There are even letters attached in the game files that I liked reading.

My biggest problem with estate route is that it's up in the air how much any of that will matter in Wars. You would think having a future Duke in your corner (the achievements related to squiring him are "Second Father" and "Red Son") who's been neutral during a civil war would be the most impactful choice you could make in Lords but maybe the only thing that changes is whether Renard is addressed as a knight or not. Same thing with printing money. I could see how making 2k crowns biannually could mean having more independence in your decision making in Wars, especially if you developed your land instead of relying on rents during the coming commie revolution...or maybe debts don't matter and all that income amounts to nothing. ARC/antari militia/Hunter sainthood/clubs/Welles&Kat romance either are going to get a big payoff or already have their stuff wrapped up in Lords, while all the little things you can do on the estate route aren't really clear how they'll play out.

I found the dinners/conversations my dragoon had with wulfram/isobel really interesting. it felt like both sides where operating on misconceptions/mischaracterizations of the other. the queen and kat immediately think wulfram incited the riots, and that he is acting in a wholey malicious scheme to weaken the crown. wulfram and the duchess however, feel incredibly assured that they've taken isobel's measure, that she'll concede to their budget, they'll have the cortes accept her as queen and tierra will live happily ever after. they don't recognize the true lengths isobel will go to, that isobel sees the politics and war as on in the same.

Well, for one, doing that every time is a bit tiresome.
But far more importantly, that works in some games, but not others. Like you know, you can justify being a power-hungry psycho in something like Wise Use of Time where going apeshit with time control is its own route, or any of Mike Walter's games (Life of a Wizard, Last Heir, etc) since that guy basically designs every game specifically for power-hungry minmaxers both in and out of universe... or rather max-maxers, as you ideally want as many stats as you can as high as you can get them.
But then you take even something like Infinity or Keeper, where the real powergaming most often comes in meta-knowledge rather than anything the character would have real influence over or aspiration toward. You might have to do some weird shit sometimes knowing it'll let you reach the right threshold for something down the line.

Depends on what you mean by soldering autism build. The 65-70 soldering 18/25yo Aetorian shouldn't feel handicapped at all. If you want 85 or higher soldering, you need to sacrifice one of the stats. Probably charisma is a better dump stat. I had an 85 sol, 45 int and no charisma build, and the only times it felt handicapped was when it couldn't do the staff meeting before Kharangia or couldn't mentor Renard. Otherwise it was business as usual, and didn't feel like eating shit continuously.

Honestly I think the real issue I have with Infinity is that it's so weird and inconsistent in what it expects. Most of the time you're rewarded well enough for being well-rounded, since a lot of the checks - especially in the first game, I feel - are less "are you a bad enough dude" and more "you didn't dump X, did you?"
But then it blindsides you with really high checks out of nowhere, and suddenly you start wondering if it expects you to alternate between hypercompetence and bumbling by having one stat really high, or if the math is just off in some way and what Wangs THINKS you should have and what you'll probably have without metagaming your stat spread are wildly different things.

I was pretty happy with my ending too (>>3780930). I don't think I had killed the Scorpion (it might have been the Labyrinth beast but I know I didn't kill one of them) and I didn't realize that Hyranni could be saved at the start of the game so I didn't get her until much latter. But yeah overall pretty happy with things.

The cast is also great and the fact they interact with eachother like that adds a layer of believability to them.

I feel like Clannath's addition was a bit of an asspull as for as explainations go but I did like her.

I think one of the most rewarding parts of the game was watching your group from the beginning grow over time and accruing a colorful band of allies.

I've been playing genealogy of the holy war, its kino. I think I really like grand war stories with plotting and intrigue on the side, along with idealistic/chivalrous characters that end up shooting themselves in the foot with their actions. defending his territory from brigands spirals into sigurd crusading across multiple countries and taking out all their leadership, first it was verdane and him trying to rescue the kidnapped aideen, and then later when agustria's inner politics spills into a full blown conflict he interferes to help out his good friend edilgan and ends up steam rolling everyone else. we as the player know sigurd has good intentions, but everyone in the grannvel court gets antsy because holy shit sigurd just conquered two other countries while we where busy with the isaachan war, which allows arvis and a few other lord's plot to pin an assassination of the prince on sigurd and his dad. Its kino would reccomend/10, and infinty should be more like it. Cunaris is livid when you butcher just 1 village in sabres and cazarosta made it his career to butcher civilians in the woods. It was still happening under orders, but that doesn't change the fact that caz was getting off to burning houses with women and children inside.

I'm skimming a few of the early scene files for Sabres before playing it (as I always do with these games to know what to expect mechanically) and man. It's really made with the assumption you'll eat some shit the first time you play, isn't it? Well, that or by the grace of the Saints or something luck into the exact right combination to smoothly carry you through.
It's not even about the specifics of the checks, it's the fact you get fucked pretty hard for failing some of them. I don't know. It's fine to make things easier as a reward for success, but when you also make things harder as punishment for failure, you make the gap awkwardly large, if you ask me.
At least it's better than Life of a Wizard and Lost Heir, those games have the baffling fucking design of ONLY rewarding you with skill increases if you succeed in the first place, or at best giving you a piddly increase when you fail but large when you pass, in flagrant defiance of common game design logic.

I firmly believe that the first playthrough should be done blind, even in the case of Sabres. Yes, there are several dubious decisions on Wang's part, it's easy to gimp yourself out on some stupid shit (I will always shit on the early promotion bullshit or the biggest sucker option in the series, the dragonlocks) but if you think about what you are actually trying to accomplish you should still do fairly well. The future playthroughs can be done while checking stat requirements in the code, and just reading when you are trying to find some obscure scene that you would have to hunt for hours otherwise.

Since their specialization is ultimately investigation, and that's pretty much just the central plotline with VERY scarce opportunity (or reason) to snoop around on the side, you mostly just get a fast-track and easy mode on... what every other powerset would be doing anyway.
