Not Obsidian Entertainment. Unless you consider Chris Avellone's shitty ideas a form of legal continuity.

Most people from Obsidian came from Black Isle. Why do you think they chose the name 'Obsidian'. Because it's black.

Feargus Urquhart wanted to save "Black Isle" for his own studio but Interplay was seriously going to call their RPG division "Dragonplay" so he sacrificed it to avoid the indignity.

When a person:
>Lies to you
>Manipulates you
>Kills security personal
>Commits treason
>Supplies terrorists with weapons
>Attempts to destabilize western governments
>Attempts to launch nukes
>Attempts to have you killed
>Attempts to kill you herself

And your options are:

It's not so incel as it is the only logical thing to do. If you're thinking we should should forgive them because they happen to be a woman that would make you the incel.

Good, but they can't really claim the credit, the game was written and designed by Matt and Trey and developed under their heavy supervision. They basically played Amazon and acted as a fulfillment center for what they dictated.

>IWD2's main campaign was better
Maybe from a power gaming perspective. But the campaign of IWD2 was too mechanical. Felt more like combat puzzles and moving from arena to arena. Like modern horde shooters (Doom 2016, Boltgunm, etc.).

IWD1 felt like a real journey and adventure. The atmosphere and soundtrack was great.

bait thread oc
but I'm gonna take the opportunity to praise IWD games
the 2nd while obviously rushed and has several of "that level" moments is on paper a better computer game
but 1st has so much charm it's unreal

also it's the game I always recommend as what a properly designed railroady-structured D&D campaign should be like
and if you want the closest vidya to replicate the feeling of a D&D tabletop campaign look no further

Beamdog has Trent Oster and who else exactly? Gaider was there for about a minute before he fucked off to Australia. Obsidian has the same upper management as Black Isle, Feargus Urquhart, Chris Parker, and Darren Monahan. The lower employees come and go as they always do.

Railroads are bad.
But yeah they are the Railroad studio.

It was my main criticism of the Dungeon Siege games. long before I comprehended IWD and Dungeon siege were made by the same people.
You visit a town once, then you forget that town ever existed.
If you do take your trouble backtracking to the previous town, you will be met with disappointment:
-the NPCs repeat the same thing
-they are frozen in time
-they have the same troubles as when you left them
-their sales invnntories never changed

This shit will make you depressed. It's no wonder BG2 is considered the god of CRPGs, litterally a masterpiece in comparison.

They had a huge pause with inactivity from 2011 to 2014.

This is most likely when they swapped their former Gen X developers with new quirky Millenials developers.
And their games has sucked dicks ever since.
I apologise on behalf of the Millenial generation, I'm terribly sorry we fucked up the western video game space.

Sorry for expecting people to do the bare minimum of staying informed about RPGs on an RPG board in a topic about a specific company. >you didn't spend 2 hours arguing over what is valid source or not to prove that the earth is round and not flat? haha, that means i win
The mind of the ignorant close-minded idiot is a curious thing.

Game budget is tied to staff size. 80-100 devs is not a big team and this was when the project was in full production. This dev number is widely available, even on wikipedia, even if you don't know how to use google.
Since Obsidian owns the IP and setting, they didn't need to pay any rights holder.
Now naturally a lot of this you won't understand because you don't know how game dev works, so you would screech for hours on end for source on every little thing, since that's what you're here for, shitposting and arguing.

But of course this also goes right back at you. Since you are adamant about being "right" (you you parroted cocession buzzword) which means you clearly have facts to support that the game had a very high budget (which of course regardless of the number, you will say it is, since it fits your narrative).

Go on, show the class you're only here to shitpost and argue. Not to actually discuss.

Josh Sawyer was really bitter/sad over Pillars 2 underperforming and a likely reason why they've moved back to 3D slop. With Avowed being janky I hope we get a Pillars 3 (with Avalone as well if I can have all my wishes)

I'm more nervou about Microsoft. Recently they put their studios on th chopping blocks, means there is now more scarcity to the funding.
Obsidian could be 1-2 games away from mass layoff.
