iirc Quuux and red Gundam have sold just fine. Gyaan’s the newest one and it’s one of the best redesigns in the show. Imo the Kikeroga was the star mobile suit(armor) of the show but the more unconventional and bigger designs tend to have to wait longer for kits.

I don't think the show tries to establish them as totally different Gundams. The Red Gundam is still the RX-78-2 of that universe, it just has a different appearance. So it's less that it's inconsistent, and more that the change in appearance or design philosophy in this case is just never addressed.

While /a/ has historically shunned MAL as some kind of anime facebook/reddit it really is a useful site for looking up information like airing dates, staff, studio, seiyuu, etc.
I don't know why you would interact with the community or anything like that though. I simply track my stuff and if I like something I can easily check out what other stuff someone worked on. Or if a character voice sounds familiar I can look up what else they did. Anidb is honestly more accurate for some things but the site is a pain to navigate. I'm sure there are other websites that fulfil the same function, I don't really care. Just don't bother with any of the subhumans there.

In all honestly, a lot of people simply don't have the knowledge to accurately do so, their opinions are worth less than shit. Any evaluation you could make would just be a justification for your own opinion on things.
The problem with adding ratings or thoughts to a public database is that people's opinions aren't that interesting and they tend to overwrite. Just sum it up in a couple sentences.

Looking at the reviews it was clear that people read the first ~20 chapters then rated.
Tl;dr zoomers will drop your manga if it has a slow start.

Do you not read a synopsis or watch PVs? Figure out the general reception of the source material if there is one? The studio? The staff? Anything? It doesn't take much to know if an anime is worth your time or not. I already had Ruri no Houseki pinned as something to watch this season before the catalog got flooded with threads about it as an example. I can't imagine just picking shows up on a whim and hoping they will turn out half decent and then finishing them if they aren't. A little bit of window shopping goes a long way.
