The best version of Misaki for me would be a mix between anime Misaki and manga Misaki. With the history of abuse of the anime which would forge her personality and the manga version where that makes her spiteful and conniving, which would make the fact Misaki isn't surrounded by betas make sense. And I would lover her as she is!

I really wanted to know more about her and the fact that she knew so much about Satou while keeping much of her past obscure only made me desire her more.

๐
>>280815511I feel like she didn't deserve him. Also I hold resentment towards her because if you look at it, Satou was a lonely but mostly normal guy in high school. Then Hitomi came in with her conspiracy theories to mess up his brain and probably got him hooked in drugs too. Whenever Satou tried to do something romantic or for fun like looking at the stars, Hitomi would be a wet blanket and go all nihilistic on him.
Then there's the fact when things are too perfect, she invents problems and then blames the world for her own bad choices.
I would totally ravage her body like a starving animal, then pump her full of my sticky seed and take pictures of her to send to her husband and upload to 2ch in the hopes that she goes "offline" permanently. That's what sluts like her deserve.
>>280815740You might be more like her than you think
Manka Misak is a beautiful mess. Now its more believable that she struggled socially.
Anime Misaki would easily get friends and have an army of simps after her. She's rich, cute and quite capable. Even her plain looks make her look like a "girl next door" archetype.
Meanwhile manga Misaki with the self harm and screws loose personality is more likely to stick with someone like Satou. I also appreciate that manga Misaki is easily influenced. Instead of going with the popular girls who wanted her to join their clique, she rejects them and goes after non-threatening self harming "loser" weebs that make her feel better about herself and adopts their bad habits.
I like how deliciously self destructive manga Misaki is. I want to save her and protect her smile!
>>280815841Eh sadly for me, I got Misaki's issues and got a hero complex. So I waste time with people who don't deserve it. In the end got tired of it all, and went full Yamazaki. Hence why I intend to build my waifubot, women are ugly stinky blood-oozing from their dirty gashes beasts.
>>280815914I'm beginning to think Satou's apartment is cursed (or maybe Yamazaki's music turns neighbors into neets,) its all a conspiracy!
>>280815914>went full Yamazaki. Hence why I intend to build my waifubot, women are ugly stinky blood-oozing from their dirty gashes beasts.I'm happy for you and your homely wife
Never read the manga. How is it compared to the anime?
>>280813463>>280813503I feel like novel Misaki is at her best design. More detailed than the anime but also plain in a way. Its difficult to describe, like she is not supermodel beautiful but still beautiful in her "this is a woman" way
>>280816080I'd say its very good. I read that people complained that manga Misaki is meaner. In general everyone is meaner on it. Yamazaki doesn't care about Satou as much and actually lets him attempt his suicide (or maybe knows him better and trusts Satou to not go through with it) and instead works solo on his game. Misaki is a basket case but I find her more realistic than the anime. Manga Satou is a true pedophile and drug addict who snorts cocaine and watches cp while fantasizing about raping Misaki.
Also it continues past the half point of the anime that had Satou attempt suicide to save Misaki. This one continues their relationship and also shows Misaki's pov and Yamazaki's pov whereas the anime mostly followed Satou's life. I feel like it expands on the universe and even if some things I prefer from the anime, I just take what I like.
>I'm happy for you and your homely wifeThanks! Still a long way to go but got time and money on my side with a comfy researcher job. In a way I can afford to spend weeks going full neet WHILE getting paid. So living Satou's dream.
>>280815740>probably got him hooked in drugs tooDoubt this part, research chemicals and prescription drugs are totally different worlds really. Hitomi got hers from the doctor.
Satou would have done all his own research, reading forums, posting etc to get to understand what he was doing with the stuff and combinations he mentioned in the book.
Other than that, mostly agree with your post.
>>280816289Guess there's no canon answer, though I still feel like Hitomi's the type of girl to fake a migraine to access nursery's pills and trade on illicit substances. I feel like she's the main reason Satou is the way he is.
And manga Satou definitely fried his brain with all the substances he consumes
Misaki was never going to help Sato by being actually helpful, that's just not what women do.
The real purpose of women is being helpless and pitiful is to give purpose for men's lives. Sato realizing how laughably useless and unreliable Misaki is, was what motivated him to act (even if just a little), and in the end, save her, despite him being apathetic about everything else. Same reason why he got wrapped in Hitomi's meeting, she wanted something and he wanted to help her.
In reality, girls are the unhinged ones that need to be saved and kept in check by men. You can see how in NHK, Sato was the one comfortably hanging out in his room, after which Misaki entered his life creating fuss out of nowhere by attacking his insecurities. Sato was the one who had to deflect Misaki's bs and take charge when she fucked everything up, which brought content into his life.
The "getting saved by Misaki" is obviously a lie, but people still like the fantasy. Why? Because she's cute and it's a convenient cover story for a relationship. Girls love living in pleasant delusions, and men love to playing into them. The girl being cute is everything. "Saving pathetic hikikomori man" is Misaki's shtick, so the natural reaction from a receptive male is "yeah plz save me Misaki!" It's just cosplay. Girls are a bit like children in that you shouldn't break their delusions too much, or you'll break them, like when Sato finally rejected her new contract, calling it hollow and not wanting to play along with it anymore. This shattered Misaki's entire raison d'etre and she had no backup one.
This may not be the intended message of the show, but as a realistic story from before 2010 with archetypically male and female characters, you can see the reflection of reality in it.
>>280816261In the novel, she's a lot plainer girl yet quirky in her appearance and personality. The manga captures this but not all the way and the anime makes her too pretty and clean.
>>280816405It's a nice fantasy but it also touches on how demoralized you have to be to buy into it. Of course, in reality, the man saves the woman and not the other way around. I suppose both can be true as the woman saves the man by giving him a purpose but still, the man's role is far more proactive in this regard. Misaki and Satou's relationship works in a 2000's Y2K era social sphere but obviously now, Misaki would be a social media addicted whore with an OnlyFans or Twitch and Satou would be a 10x porn addict. The story of NHK loses its bite once you consider how worse things got.
>>280801341I hate myself for how much I would've given in and helped her cheat on her fiancee, despite knowing I'd feel horrible and tainted for doing so.
>>280816405Agreed. The only sensible path there was to bend Misaki over and plunge my thic erect cock deep inside every hole and make her squeal until her false delusions get shattered and she is saved by me putting a baby in her womb!

I'm loving the resurgence of NHK threads. They're by far the most enjoyable /a/ threads in forever. A lot of good pics posted and a lot of enjoyable discussion. BTW, has anyone read the sequel? The author-san got out of his NEET rut and sat down to write a sequel but weirdly, people say it's set in the present day but the characters are the same age as they were in the OG novel. What's up with that?
>>280816405>that's just not what women do.but enough about your stupid incel mentality.
The main point of her side of the story was merely that at times, you can't expect someone to dig you out of your own problems. Once mommy lowered the amount of money she was sending to Satou, he immediately started changing.
It helped way more than any of Misaki's "help" because...that was the whole point.
Misaki is either a sad story or a miserable bitch depending on what adaption you're into. Either way, the idea of wanting a Misaki in your life means you completely missed the point. Even more so if you turned her story into some autistic incel drivel.
>>280816789Keep those disgusting and stupid tourist buzzwords out of a purely /a/ thread like this, you subhuman.
>>280816742It's just some silly retelling, iirc. Don't bother. There are reasons why no one in these threads goes into details about them.

>>280816710>>280816574>In the novel, she's a lot plainer girl yet quirky in her appearance and personalityHow so? I am imagining Leslie Burke from Terabithia or Ramona Flowers when you say quirky in appearance. I only know the manga
>The story of NHK loses its bite once you consider how worse things got. Also fun how what was once considered an extreme parody of a loser is now the norm except everyone is more demoralized so there's not even a hint of hope or possibility to change.
>>280816652Why? She wants it! If anything, you should feel proud to be chosen and help ruin her life for good. That's what thots deserve
>>280816879If there's one /tv/ actress or personality I can imagine playing a pretty good Misaki in a modern American reinterpretation of NHK in a hypothetical reality (can you even imagine that? lol) i'd go with Emma Myers. She looks all cute and cuddly but you can imagine her having that dark and petty side to her too.
>Also fun how what was once considered an extreme parody of a loser is now the norm except everyone is more demoralized so there's not even a hint of hope or possibility to change.Satou isn't really any kind of representaion of actual NEET losers so much as an idealized and cleaned-up version of the author's own self. He's still a "loser" but is tall, full head of hair, well built and quite sociable when he lets himself be. The stark inverse of what the usual NEET looks like and is, even back then. But no one wants a real NEET as a protagonist in an escapist manga/anime.
>Why? She wants it! If anything, you should feel proud to be chosen and help ruin her life for good. That's what thots deserveShe deserves it, sure, but I wouldn't do that to myself. I'd feel so shitty for doing that to a fellow man and I'd spiral hard. I guess I'm too soft at heart.
>>280816405>Misaki was never going to help Sato by being actually helpfulNow this is a plot thread I'm willing to pursue. I want to understand, Satou has no impulse control and never followed through with any idea he had (probably product of all the drugs and bad life habits) but what if he diligently followed Misaki's "project" and applied himself to her program? I know her goal was to make him dependent on her, but if he truly cooperated and signed the second contract and became her boyfriend, would he have a chance to rehabilitate? Or would the program end up with him going full neet again? I'm curious because we never fully saw it to completion and by the end of it Misaki was too depressed so she just "graduated" Satou
>>280817153It's clear that Misaki would lose it if Satou showed any agency and improvement on his own even if he followed her "project". Her approach was clearly carrot on a stick in which she'd placate him with vague promises of improvement while making him more dependent on her until he couldn't live without her by his side at all times, which would mean she would have total and utter dominion over his well being. Which sounds like some BPD girl's wet dream.
>>280817068If only we got something like nhk. Also uuuooooh!
>>280817428But if she goes out, would he go out too? I would count that as improvement. I just don't see her not getting exhausted of the arrangement and Satou deteriorating like Repz' brother.
>>280815511>My headcanon is that he fixed herThat's what I like about the manga, its so cynical
>>280817783Also the issue with her husband is that he avoids the issue and enables her to continue being crazy
If NHK was set in the 2020s:
Satou would be a porn-addicted internet forum depedent loser addicted to Valorant and either obese or anorexic and with no future in life
Misaki would be a BPD whore who'd have an army of Satous to control and deride pleasure from. Also would probably have an OnlyFans.
Yamazaki would be a twink/femboy/tranny on Instagram and would probably anhero before 30
Hitomi-senpai would be a right wing MAGA girl and would be obsessed with shit like Red Scare and Eipstein conspiracy theories
B-buy my tulpa!
>>280817879There's where I think the Rebuild of the NHK messed up. The author tried to remake it in the modern era but made Yamazaki and Satou youtubers when its all tik tok and discord nowadays so even as a story it fell behind the times. Yamazaki would be a high level discord janny tranny
>>280818186Is the story trying to make fun of us, our response nhksisters?!?
>>280817879>Hitomi-senpai would be a right wing MAGA girl and would be obsessed with shit like Red Scare and Eipstein conspiracy theoriesThere's actually a brand new political party in Japan(born from the internet) that won some seats that is basing its self on MAGA.

>>280818154It's clear the author put no real effort or thought into that continuation given its length, he just wanted to get something out there that people might pay him for. But an NHK "reboot" of sorts in this era lends itself to an unimaginable amount of scenarios to play with. Like you said, Yamazaki probably being some internet femboy who clings to Satou, creating some kind of third-wheel dynamtic with Misaki. One interesting way is how Satou could use AI chatbots to numb his loneliness and escape reality. So many possibilities for misery porn. It works with the themes of doomed youth because youth truly is doomed right now whereas back in the 2000's, they weren't.
How would you modernize Megumi's brother?
>>280818222Why's the mother horrified? Yes, it's a rather exaggerated display of affection but it's not like he's pining for another man or something.
>>280818222If he loves her so much why does he keep acting so cold towards her when she wants him? I bet this is the author throwing his own obsession with idols and literary school shit into a person who would have taken Misaki as gf immediatly
For me, it's the more gloomy Misaki Abe drew. I was always obsessed with that depiction of Misaki.
>>280818369It's not as unrealistic as you think. In bad ruts of NEET-induced psychosis and sadness, I'd obsess over any girl I saw in the street and fetishize her and daydream about her then when one plain girl actually approached me, I recoiled and preferred the fantasy. Objects of obsession are much more appealing the further they are.
>>280818354>>280818369Because in the manga he left Misaki to go live with his parents and he's going fully insane, to the point he's fantasizing and now has a Misaki tulpa following him around that always looks at him with sad and disapproving eyes. Quite based gotta say
>>280818332>Satou could use AI chatbots to numb his loneliness and escape realityFuck I feel that. I explored one on the excuse of "research" to get a feel of the state of the art in hopes of implementing something like that on my waifubot. Worst 2 weeks of my life, one of the few times I actually got reprimanded at my job and looked very much like Satou after the porn binge
Chatbots are a drug!
>>280818332>he just wanted to get something out there that people might pay him forKind of like Satou's easy money attempts, right? Kek
>How would you modernize Megumi's brother? Not sure what people are willing to pay for. e-games are still a thing right? He would be a failed pro gamer I guess so not much difference, if he was a girl he could sell his holes online but he committed the crime of being born with a penis so no luck for him on the market.
Okay have I been living under a rock cause I remember reading the manga in full a decade ago and it ended with them splitting and going back to their parents but promising to do their best and become worthy of each other but now I'm seeing manga panels I don't remember at all...
>>280818782Totally worth the re-read. Many funny stories I wish we got animated. I think it would have worked if they showed Misaki's pov and Yamazaki after Satou discovered he's spied on. But it would require more episodes.

The sadness of a neet is real. Escapism is only temporary and then you need to beat your asshole dad and take his car to go to drink beer
>>280818895In the manga only. The original canon version is the LN which is based on the author's real life experiences as a neet (and damn, did he admit to consuming cp and snorting coke?), quite crude. Then there's the anime based on the LN and combining some events while streamlining others.
This is one of the most controversial panels on the manga and it took lots of artistic liberties. I simply ignore it since the LN and anime indicate Misaki was truly a poor abused angel.
Ohh, so there's a rebuild, but it's just a novel?
>>280818837The pyramid scheme arc, while funny, didn't fit in at all. It looked like something put in because those were very popular during that time. A neet would never fall for that because we have no friends and no confidence. I guess the modern equivalent that Satou would definitely fall for is crypto and daytrading. Winning wife-changing money only to double down and lose it all.
I think the anime didn't explore Misaki's psychological condition as much as the manga? I really liked that scene where she went full femdom, tied him up and left him to starve. The manga is the best.

Throughout most of the anime, Sato dismissively humors Misaki's antics but stays at an arm's length. At the end of the anime, the dynamic has changed and he has started coaching her for high school, ending at a slightly hopeful note (but no guarantees). Also, at the end, he's presented with yet another Misaki's delusional contract, and he's not shooting it down despite of how stupid he clearly thinks it is, portraying acceptance of her character (not acceptance of the contract). This is all in line with my post.
>>280822200I wish I could make her that excited
Back off you filthy 3dpd!
>>280817153Sato never believed in her project, he just went along her for fun, so there's no timeline where he would actually believe in her healing powers. But he could have continued playing along with her increasingly unhinged projects, become her boyfriend at her command etc. Then what would happen would depend on whether he keeps acting distant or actually starts caring, case in which he might be able to helping save her from her insecurity. If he keeps just playing her for idle fun, she would be destroyed.
>>280822529If he cared and truly embraced her, could Satou fuck Misaki's insecurities out of her?

Is it theanine? Misaki spending weeks holed in a room, I think that may be something else entirely...
Just finished the manga. Was told the finale would be the greatest of all.
Why then do I feel so empty inside?!?
I loved that the manga included more scenes of Satou and Misaki dating
>>280821306What a crazy bitch slut!
>>280822247The story just never fully takes that direction though. Else, Satou would get more of a traditional Hollywood ending where he gets the girl in the end. Which would be several times better than any of the real endings to welcome to the NHK, sadly.
>>280815740Adding to this, the manga shows Hitomi trying tobacco early in high school so its clear she was the one who induced Satou to take drugs and get addicted.
>>280824377Eh I kind of get it. Usually first love is a nice feeling that never works out and you end up forever cherishing it while taking on increasingly unsatisfactory relationships in a vain attempt to recapture the purity and strength of first love. That's what makes it so sad and tragic.
At least manga Satou got to fuck Misaki and there's hope that he may get with her again, although in every case its unlikely.
I bet Misaki-chan got a cute asshole. What do you think, anon? I think it'd be a small pink pucker

>>280826092That scene always makes me rock hard. My guess is Misaki-chan is submissive but has a very kinky streak once she really gets going. May be into bdsm given the way she acts in the manga.
None of the NHK endings are satisfying in a realistic way that is in line with the way the story was going. The best ending would be to cut Misaki out of his life completely and stand on his own two feet. The manga, the book and the anime always cuck out and make a compromise.
>>280826131The manga also provided some really nice panels where he imagines going full beast and ripping off Misaki's clothes as she begs before he rapes her.
>>280819227>What kind of neet gets to do cool drugs?A lot? I could legally order every drug he mentions in his book on a clearnet website and have it delivered me by the end of the week if I wanted.
They did make them illegal in Japan though at some point, but all the drugs he mentioned were 100% legal at the time there.
It's obvious in the book that his drug use is directly related to his personal experience given how knowledgeable he is.
Many psychedelics are either explicitly legal or quasi-legal in many countries all over the world.
I got an urgent need to copulate with Misaki-chan! Dating Sim where you can take Misaki on dates (or rather taken by her) when?!?

>>280827617I want to live with Misaki.
>>280824437That's not how it is in the original source material at all.
Even if there is a point in the book where he starts smoking cigarettes because of Hitomi(I don't recall, it's possible), it's such massive jump to say that she introduced him to drugs.
It's very clear the author is based it off of his own experience with drugs. And the drugs he uses are so niche and ultra specific, it's like apples and oranges compared to anything like tobacco, alcohol etc
>>280826234Considering the author himself went back to being a hikikomori, it's almost fitting in that sense.
Misaki could represent the spectre that causes him to repeat the cycle. And he intuitively knows or knew that it still hangs over him.
That would be the good ending though, yeah.
Too bad life rarely gives people the good ending.

They see you wasting your precious youth not furthering your life and feel deep despair about being complacent in your life being nothing but putrid garbage thus far. You don't have friends or anything resembling a social life and aren't even creatively inclined as a way to spend your time, instead, all you do is waste your time consuming media and being addicted to the dopamine overload of internet forums such as 4chan. >>280844153She looks so beautiful when cowering from being hit. I love Misaki-chan so much!
Also I found the island arc the least realistic. As much as I enjoyed the offline meeting concept, I prefer the manga version where Misaki and Yamazaki fail to reach Satou but he comes back on his own after failing to suicide. The idea of them conveniently reaching him in the middle of the night and finding a rich guy who rents a boat that is conveniently available was too much for me.
How unhinged manga be? I only read novel years ago, barely remember some details like Misaki started saving up sleeping pills for suicide after Satou rejected her and ran away like a bitch he is
>>280844544A bit more than the anime but still quite lovely. The worst she did was:
- Install spy equipment in Satou's home, this is over the top and I still think the manga may have taken artistic liberties here
- Tie Satou in bdsm gear and when he insulted her while dropping spaghetti leaving him with no food or water for several days
- Try to apply unit 731 brainwashing program on Satou and fail at it
- Reject the popular girl's offer to join their clique because they make her feel inferior and instead join the non-threatening loser weebs at school, feeling inferior even to them, trying to fit in by dressing like a full otaku and cutting her wrists to show off in a webpage
- Drop spaghetti everywhere and rejecting all offers to socialize to the point she became an outcast at school
- Throw away Satou's wedding ring he saved up for and gifted her during her birthday due to fear of her joy turning into pain later on
- Becoming a neet living in Satou's now abandoned apartment, not bathing for days and waiting to die. IMAGINE the smell!
All in all its far more credible that a girl like manga Misaki wouldn't be popular and hang out with someone like Satou
>>280844856Oh I forgot, unlike the anime where the history of abuse and loss is real and she suffered from it much of her life, in the manga she's totally average with loving parents and rich, but she lies to Satou that she's been physically abused all her life and is an orphan to make him feel guilty for ditching her to go drink with senpai.
This may have been the worst she did, because she made Satou pretend to be her boyfriend so she could impress her classmates, make him spend all his savings on buying her food and take her out on dates to expensive places to the point Satou became suicidal
>>280829283 >>280829330 all because she wanted to see him suffer as punishment for ignoring her.
>>280845039Huh? That sounds pretty edgy, Misaki is supposed to appeal to "I can fix her" fantasy, making her that crazy would make the fantasy filled with too much irony, not my thing though
>>280788282 (OP)3 episodes to finish my rewatch. I miss Yamazaki, bros.
>>280845538That's where I wonder. Anime Misaki feels like she appeals to the "I want a manic pixie dream girl to appear and fix me" crowd. I like the air of mystery around her in the anime and actually I binge watched it just because I'm a sucker of mysteries and wanted to know about Misaki's backstory.
But I find manga Misaki more realistic. Anime Misaki no matter how antisocial would have crowds of people wanting to befriend her, whereas I can more realistically believe normalfags would be put off by Misaki's behavior in the manga. Manga Misaki does seem to be appealing to either "I can fix her" guys or makes them want to stay as far away from her as possible. So she's far more divisive.
I think it depends, if you want fantasies of an angel coming to help you and you help her in turn, anime Misaki it is. If you want a realistic story about a girl who is not right in the head trying to control a loser even worse than her, then manga Misaki is the way to go.
As I commented in another previous post, the best version to me would be manga Misaki (so it makes sense why she hangs out with the likes of Satou and Yamazaki) with anime Misaki's backstory which would make her spiteful and manipulative personality make sense.
>>280845756Life is unrealistic, and therefore anime Misaki is realistic.
>>280845613Same. That last part was so sad from Yamazaki burning away all his hopes and dreams by literally burning his books and destroying his relationships, to his complete failure at selling his game that makes him face reality that he may not have what it takes to be a creator, to his last "date" with Satou throwing snowballs and gifting him his prized Pururin, to the last goodbye where he says
"Don't lose like I did"
"You're not going home a loser!"
while both know that isn't true. It was so sad. Then Satou reminiscing how they truly are losers and how quiet things are now that his friend is gone...it truly brought a tear to my eye

>>280847212I did not relate to Satou one bit. He's not a NEET, an otaku or a "loser" of any real degree, he's just a failed normalfag NPC who just keeps himself down instead of external factors outside his control. Hated him as a character and how he treated Misaki, Yamazaki etc.
>>280818403>For me, it's the more gloomy Misaki Abe drew. I was always obsessed with that depiction of Misaki. My favorite part of manga Misaki is how smug she looks even when embarrassed. I swear she reminds me a lot of Tomoko Kuroki with her acting smug then getting embarrassed and spilling spaghetti everywhere when her convoluted plans fail, attitude.
>>280833816>Anon, I...I swear she gives off the same feeling. Anime Misaki looks like the kind of girl who will save you but the story won't let her continue existing because she's far too pure for this world. Guess that's why I got so attached to her, I feel for Leslie when I read BtT back in school and I cried when she died. Misaki gives off the same vibe but luckily doesn't die even though I totally expected that to happen.
Misaki deserves eternal happiness
>>280847342>he's just a failed normalfag NPC Just like NHK fans.
>>280848528I will plunge my thick erect cock deeply into Misaki and give her eternal bliss through orgasms
>>280848578True. I like Misaki and Yamazaki but beyond that, NHK as a story just didn't work for me. Felt like the author didn't have a clear focus and the story ends up feeling pretty hollow by its conclusion. I also think it tried to have its cake and eat it too but depicting, somewhat, the realities of being a NEET but then sugarcoating the story and veering off into escapism/wish-fullfilment. It's easy to laugh at Satou thinking his life is over at 22 though when that's a baby in adult years.
>>280848733>It's easy to laugh at Satou thinking his life is over at 22 though when that's a baby in adult years. It was a product of its time and by then japanese youth still had hope and it was expected that by that age you were already a productive member of society.
Feels weird because nowadays aspiring to be a neet and work as little as possible seems to be the focus of youngsters everywhere. I guess because they realized how short life is and how little corporations and the government care about them, treating them like cattle.
We truly live in dark times compared to when NHK first came out. I enjoy it as the nihilistic musings of an author and I enjoy how Satou tries to derive meaning when he realizes everything's hollow
>>280822158Even after he recovers, I'm not sure the author manged to find an answer for why Satou doesn't just kill himself beyond "its inconvenient" and "death is scary" and the fact there isn't an answer for us either is what makes it truly scary

So I dunno. I doubt she'd get hooked, but it's possible if she's the type to get feel good when smoking it.
I've tested dozens of types of drugs over the years, and for me the all of the most extremely uncomfortable feelings have come from weed alone or when weed is involved.
I think people vastly underestimate this powerful modern weed and how fucked up it can get you.
I also think it was probably a big factor in bringing out latent schizo-type disorder in a friend who used to be one of the enjoyers who smoked every day.
>>280849707So she was acting according to how Satou perceived her?
>>280849751I think she's gonna hate it then. I think she may get hooked on relaxation drugs and painkillers like Hitomi.

>>280845756>Anime Misaki no matter how antisocial would have crowds of people wanting to befriend herA quiet and shy girl working in a manga cafe in Japan in that era...I dunno.
I can imagine she might get hit on by guys sometimes. But especially with her aunt and all the weird stuff going on I don't think it would necessarily be easy for her to get a lot of friends.
This is pre-social media days too.
Like she could find friends on the internet then, but it filtered a lot more people back then. Also the people on the internet then were more like Yamazaki and Satou kek

Grass is always greener on the other side. Especially when you're working yourself to death and the novelty of being a 'creator' has worn off.
>>280847342He's a hikikomori. You don't really have to apply your own labels or gatekeep his condition.
Especially considering the author himself is literally a hikikomori.
So what if he made his MC a more idealized version of himself?
>he's just a failed normalfag NPC who just keeps himself down instead of external factors outside his controlI think you're unempathetic to the degree that mental illness can affect people.
Yes, one of the main points of the story is that there were really no external factors keeping him down. And that is something that applies to and resonates with a lot of people if they can actual realize it.
>>280848733>Felt like the author didn't have a clear focus and the story ends up feeling pretty hollow by its conclusion.I like that part.
It hits even harder when you get the second edition of the book and there's a whole afterword written by the author talking about how he failed to change his hikikomori ways even after all these years.
>>280850313>failed to change his hikimori waysJesus, was this before or after the anime? You would think the anime money wouldโve helped him back onto his feet

>>280850046Its truly painful, that's why Yamazaki's words resonate so profoundly. You don't get to go with a bang, life just goes on full of anxieties and regrets that never quite go away.
>>280850384>You would think the anime money wouldโve helped him back onto his feetBut that's exactly what makes it so ironic. He mentioned how it actually made him regress because he no longer had to work or starve as he could live off of the royalties from his work, quite pathetic and sad.
>>280850591Evanescence, Simple Plan and she has Boulevard of Broken Dreams on loop
>>280850384Hmm, that's a good question.
The timeline seems a bit unclear to me looking at the dates.
2002 is when it first came out.
2006 for the anime.
2007 for the English release of the book(where I read the afterword).
I'm not sure if the English release was translated from a literal second edition that was released in Japanese at some point, or I was mistakenly calling the English release a 'second edition'.
But it was at the end of the English release I read the afterword.
Not sure if that was translated or added specifically for the English release or what.
Maybe some NHK lorekeepers here know the exact timeline. Because if it took them 2 years to do the translation or something, I suppose it's possible that he wrote that afterward before the anime.
But I also I've heard that he'd some some blogging/social media or something and was struggling either way even post anime.
>>280850773Here's an interview with the man himself
https://youtu.be/Xuwqpgpaqd4
>>280851062He really does look like a neet
>>280850507That'd be super cuuute~
>>280851062Interesting interview, Tatsuhiko mentions how when NHK was being adapted to anime format, he didn't have much of a hand in producing it but he was far more involved with the manga. What do you think, anon? If you want to find it its on minute 10:35 of the video
>>280849803She is the instigator of doom. Like Satou mentions in the last episode, he was comfortably minding his own business and slowly dying everyday until Misaki arrived and made him want to prove to her he's not a hikki. Being with Yamazaki amplified that but it all started with Satou wanting to show Misaki he wasn't a loser (and wanting to rape her, in the manga)
>>280851062Also fascinating how excited he gets when the interviewer starts talking about Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge and calls it one of his masterpieces. Now I wanna read it, would be nice if it has a Misaki parallel
>>280850773Continuing on this:
I looked into it a bit more and it seems there was actually a second edition released in Japan in 2005, and presumably that was the one that was translated.
So it's definitely possible and probably likely the afterword was written before the anime release if it was in the Japanese second edition, unless he added that specifically for the English release.
But also the anime would have been in production in 2005 I'd imagine if it was released in 2006.
>>280851062Fascinating, Tatsuhiko mentions he found creating Misaki an easy process on minute 43:45 onwards.
>>280851528NTA, but the anime added and changed so much from the book that it's not surprising that he wasn't involved.
Still good though. Rare case of filler being actually interesting and adding to an original work.
Senpai was the best part of NHK
she and Satou were made for each other
Misaki can fuck off
>>280851971He also mentions that creating her was like writing a math equation. He has a hikkikomori mc so he needed someone to come to his house. So he thought of the people who came to visit him during his neet stage and the first thing he remembers is a religious person who visited him. He says he struggled most writing Yamazaki

Would Misaki-chan make for a fun date?
Yamazaki is the best bro Satou could ask for. He truly forced him to recover
>>280853414I want to lick every nook and cranny of her cute hairy asshole
>>280853812You got no idea how happy she makes me
>>280853812She is so beautiful. I want to marry Misaki-chan and create a happy family with her!
>>280851401Giggly arguments where you go back and forth over whether or not something adds to the debt total
>>280852107Senpai was a miserable wreck of a person who is destined to self destruct and it's better for Satou to stay away from her. There's nothing good that comes out of dealing with someone like Senpai. They're a black hole and there's no helping them. It's a fool's errand.
>>280848878>We truly live in dark times compared to when NHK first came out.Indeed and that has dated the story immensely. I think I speak for a lot of 2020's Gen Z NEETs that I would do anything to be able to live in the Y2K era Satou took for granted.
>why Satou doesn't just kill himselfbecause, again, his troubles, even for the time, were quite mundane and he didn't have any serious trauma/predicament besides a general sense of social anxiety and depression at not fitting in with his surroundings. The reason so many people love to throw around "I'm going to kill myself" and never actually attempt it, is because suicide is scary and death is scary and final. Your entire being will work overtime to drug you with chemicals in the brain so you can keep on living. It takes IMMENSE willpower to go through with it, if somehow you win the mental tug of war you play with your instinct of survival. There's no real reasonable explanation beyond death is final, life COULD get a TINY bit better and that slight margin of change for the better is what people strive for.
>>280850192I didn't mean to be THAT dismissive to Satou's situation and am well aware of it and what his conditions were. I suppose I let a bitterness inside me take over when I'm someone who external factors did keep down and did ruin my life and so when I see a character who has none of those things weighing him down, I get a little prissy. A little juvenile but that was why I wrote that post the way I did.
>>280850658Makes sense. Easy money is the worst thing that can happen to a NEET. Won't get into details but I got a lot of money from this thing and it made my condition worse than ever.
>>280855260>Senpai was a miserable wreck of a person who is destined to self destructAnd worse, when things were looking up she sought ways to self sabotage and cause problem. Those are the worst type of women.
>>280852107kinda based take desu
if one were to bet on which couple would have a higher chance of succeeding in the long run, i think hitomi would win over misaki.
misaki would self sabotage.
hitomi just needs stimuli, entertainment, and attention. and satou is just crazy enough that they can sit and talk bullshit together for hours.
and say what you will about the prescriptions, they probably keep her more stable than she'd be otherwise.
>>280855924What?!? Hitomi never has enough and is barely sentient. Far more impulsive than Satou and not very smart, as he mentioned in the manga her brain turned to mush. The moment she gets bored of Satou she'd cheat or seek some way to destroy everything.
Hell in the manga Satou ends up living with her and she loves it because Satou is the kind of guy who picks up fights with her and argues constantly. They end up destroying the apartment one week after Satou moves in and are on the verge of starving or killing each other before Hitomi realizes either they separate or one or both of them end in the morgue. They're the worst possible combination of people.
Anime Misaki is an enabler so she brings her issues, Satou may never get to mature and end up like Prez' brother if he follows the Misaki route completely without trying to improve himself. Manga Misaki ironically may be the best combination for Satou specifically, she's just an anxious and scared girl, and in the manga she ends up living with Satou and both end it realizing they need to sort their shit first.
>>280853812Misaki is smooth down there
>>280856102I hope not. I like hair in girls. Luckily Misaki is asian, I can accept trimming but not shaving
>>280856088I don't like that second spoiler at all.
>>280856258That's where I mention its ironic, that version has the highest chance of ending with Misaki after the series ends. The LN implies they may not see each other again, the anime also has Satou signing the contract but ends half where the manga also had Satou sign the contract.
The manga has Satou actively live with Misaki and even sleep with her naked (or truly have sex, its not explained), then Satou buys Misaki a wedding ring for her birthday and she gets scared but Satou decides he'll work on his issues as will Misaki and they'll meet again to continue their relationship.
So its far more definite that they're a couple and intend to follow through in the manga of all places. But as with all versions, its not a given that it will work out. It may or it may not, and such is life as Yamazaki mentioned.
Here is proof
>>280819107
That's a lot of reading
I'll just assume it all says Misaki is very cute
>>280857605The cutest girl in the world!
>>280857707Satou was about to rape her on this part of the manga, I swear!
>>280857869I'm not saying he should've... but I get it
>>280857894Given that at this point Misaki felt guilty about lying to him in the manga and was willing to do anything to earn his forgiveness...yes, he should've
I want Misaki to be my imouto in my next life
I am entitled to Nakahara Misaki
I am entitled to nakadashi Misaki.
One of the best aspects of NHK is how it completely blows out of the water the commonly held belief(at least these days) that having not sex or a girlfriend is some sort of key that a young man is missing in his life and holding him back. Like it would actually solve someone's problems and/or make them happy.
It would be so easy to pander to that fantasy, but instead each version tears it down in its own way.
Admittedly, I have only read the book and watched the show. But from these threads and the pages posted here, as well as the spoilered posts, it seems the manga goes ever further to drive that point home multiple times.
