I dunno if TLanon will still be around here much longer but I'm curious about what Srajo means when she says they would likely "lose" Tepaste if they resorted to Srajo's prefered methods.

I assume that means she'd die, which makes me assume brutal torture. But I was just wondering if the original Japanese carried that same implication.

I also want to add something about the way Srajo refers to herself as a coward, 臆病 (okubyou), which is more of a timid and overcautious cowardice, vs the more insulting 弱虫 (yowamushi), meaning a weakling or pushover, and 腰抜け (koshinuke), someone who’s completely lost their nerve. I saw some anons getting confused in the other thread because English doesn’t really have such distinctions and lumps it all under “coward,” which requires some nuance to suss out, as Srajo is actually pretty bold and not at all spineless, as we saw in this chapter. Nishagora is very excitable, but her immediate plans for Tepaste upon catching up to her was also brutal torture which would suggest that IS standard operating procedure for Hail Hex and lines up with that Srajo said in the new chapter.

However, the TL for what Tepaste says to Nisha is vastly different across all three translations that existed at the time.

TLanon had it as:

Because it would imply that Tepaste is able see through the hostilities Nisha was showing were an act that isn't representative of who she is and how Hail Hex operates. And that's immediately followed up by Tepaste co-operating with Hail Hex and being treated very well as a prisoner.

Maybe I'm thinking way too deeply into this based on NHS' trash, but could Srajo's statement be one of these contradictory things she likes to say, like how she's supposedly a coward?

NHS is definitely reading too much/going too far in their translation, but they’re sniffing around the right idea. Jake’s is the most literal here.
Tepaste is saying

She uses the English loanword “play” (プレイ). A literal rendering would be something like
>Byaa~~ as expected, this ‘play’ is way too barbaric, right?
The use of ‘play’ could definitely be read as a sex joke (especially given Tepaste’s.. personality) but it could also suggest that she sees Nishigora’s brutal performance for what it is. That reading is reinforced by how quickly she became Hail Hex’s prisoner of her own volition. That’s probably what NHS was hinting at, but they went too far and flattened the double entendre in Tepaste’s line.
You could even extend this to Hail Hex as a whole, that they’re putting on a kind of act and exaggerating their barbarity. With Srajo, this is especially confusing given her own contradictory self-descriptions, and it’s even more unsettling when you consider how dangerous other characters make them out to be earlier in the story. That dissonance between how Srajo frames herself and how the world frames her makes it feel like she’s deliberately holding back or downplaying her true ability. At least, that’s what I think. Shits about to go down when she puts on the mask.

My personal theory is that the abyss bend time and space and by doing so it channel light through the center but not only that, time dilatation means 1 week of light in the 5th layer means months of light in the surface. I think it doesn’t bends time uniformly meaning time passes slower in the layer night and this receiving less light and faster during layer daytime receiving more light. Part of that is definitely the MiA setting itself being great, but the game actually does a decent job with the exploration and survival themes. The game never tell you this but if you sneak the infinite mob spawn stops so you either go fast or you take your time to not attract enemies. The game was much more enjoyable once I learned this. Also infinite mob spawn means infinite food, after you get used it makes the game easier.

I think the food issue is fine, the time in game is faster than the time we experience IRL, every time we move to a different area time skips indicating it is a long way between areas. I like how the games force you to prep for a descent, this is much better than in Monster Hunter. I do find the combat bad, it would have been nice to have something like Monster Hunter. I do wish we had more relics with odd effects like a relic that induces bullet time but drains health while in use for example. Also I think health slowly regenerating or requiring resting (find a place to sleep) instead of “eat a bunch of steaks to instant heal” would make it a better “survival” game.

It varies by location, but 10 meters is treated as the safe maximum you can ascend anywhere. Some places like the area around Nanachi's house allow you to ascend more without triggering the curse.
As far as going up and down, what would matter is the greatest depth you've reached. If you ascend 6 meters up a ridge, then descend 2 meters back down on the other side, and then ascend 7 meters up another ridge you will, in most places, trigger the curse.
