Managers love to see you toiling, and hate to see you comfortable. They get off on being more comfortable and rested and wealthy than you.
They are functionally NPCs that can be fooled easily if you learn to Look Busy. Never let them see your phone, don't sit down on anything that looks like a chair or stool, walk faster when you're in their line of sight. During a seasonal winter job 2 years ago i got away with spending 40 minutes chatting and 20 minutes working by just being the gold star employee whenever the boss was looking.
It can be hard depending on the job and type of co worker you have but it makes it way easier to fuck around if your co-workers like you. Find the chill ones and make friends with them, figure out which ones are desperate for the managers approval and avoid them. Those ones will snitch on you and try to get you fired for GoodBoy Points.
