The best ice cream brand isโ€”the one made by (You).

HEAVY CREAM
SWEETENER
MILK

Whip it up to soft peaks and freeze.
Maybe in some fashion half and half can be used instead of heavy cream; cheaper and readily available. How would that turn out?

this will work but it will produce a lot of crystals and taste very icy

legit ice cream is a pain in the ass unless you have some expensive machine that takes up countertop space.

>put insulated cold bowl in the freezer for 2 days (I use one that connects to my stand mixer)
>make cream base
>heat on stove to specific temperature
>put in fridge to cool
>churn in the cold bowl for an hour
>scoop into container
>freeze for another several hours

I'm really contemplating getting one of those ninja creami pulverizers at this point but I dread another single use countertop machine

Ben & Jerries of course, solely because of the political opinions of the brand owners. Taste wise I'd choose Hรคagen-Dazs. But really if you eat any kind of ice cream on the regular you're a fat muhrican and you most likely are going to die from a heart disease at 50.

>I'm really contemplating getting one of those ninja creami pulverizers at this point but I dread another single use countertop machine
Don't.

I've researched them and while they're fine if you want to make more than just ice cream (light/reduced sugar ice cream, sushies, milkshakes, etc.) but if you just want to make really good ice cream for the same price or less there are now nice commercial-style ice cream makers with built-in compressors available for the same price that freeze the base faster as it churns than the creami which shave-blends a frozen base like its Pacojet-based ancestor or those non-compressor ice cream machines that have you prefeeze the bowl and chill the base first (faster freezing = smaller ice cystals = superior texture) and you don't have to prefreeze the bowl or even chill the base (useful for cooked Crรจme Anglais or Zabaione). There are several 2-2.6 Qt models on Amazon for the same or less price than the Ninja Creami which can only do 1 pint at a time unless you've bought a bundle with extra pint containers (or extras separately) or the newer Deluxe refresh model that Ninja introduced that has larger spin-up containers.

These. Many times, Blue Bell goes on sale and is the most affordable AND best-tasting option. That said, right now Breyer's is BOGO at Publix so I pickled up 2x48 Oz cartons yesterday for $6.

>>21432392
>Bryers isn't even ice cream, they have to call it "frozen dairy dessert" or some shit.
I've posted this before, but I'll repeat myself as it's a misconception. Breyers makes both a "frozen dairy dessert" and "ice cream" line since the latter is a legally defined term by the FDA. The packaging of both types of product is damn near identical on the carton except for the product description in small lettering on the bottom of the carton and the nutrition facts/ingredient list on the back (the real ice cream is more calorific). Despite looking similar on the outside they are radically different products in taste/texture and consumers that don't know the difference and assume it's all the same product is how Breyer's can generate such a schizophrenic reception online based on who's been buying what in the expectations-setting game.

Don't get me started on how Breyer's is not the same as Dreyer's, or how Dreyer's IS the same as Edy's.

?
I had a freezer-bowl machine and it never had problems with ice crystals. I made ice cream all summer, every summer when I had it and it was always delicious, smooth and good.
>cleaning lady used hot water to wash the bowl so it was rendered useless : (
Condenser types are more convenient, sure, but more expensive than the $20 I paid for my maker. Still, they've dropped in price considerably. I saw one for $90 not too long ago. The only valid concern is the footprint.
Now, onto your ice cream maker: why in the fuck are you churning for an hour? Mine set up ice cream almost instantaneously. I ran it for ten minutes and called it a day. Also, you didn't need to cook ice cream unless you're using egg, which makes bad ice cream imo, or cornstarch.

Like with fast food, usually there's a regional option that's better than all the other ice cream brands. In my region, it's Tillamook (they also make some amazing cheese).

I think regional companies are nearly always better than national, I think once something is national, they've usually sold out all their quality and principles for maximum profits.

Ben and Jerry's is a great option for one available nation wide. The owners are hardcore lefties though that are very politically active, it doesn't bother me, but I could see how some guys take issue with it.

I've been eating Haagen Dazs for about a decade and the flavor has been consistent to me. However, your taste will change as your age. It's probably the most consistent grocery-store-ubiquitous ice cream brand flavor-wise. I've tried switching to other ice cream brands but they either ended up changing their formula to save on costs, or they taste like frozen flour.

Hats off bro.

For grocery store brand. Meijer's brand is pretty good in anything they do (they don't have many products, it's not like Great Value).

Meijer brand ice cream and pickles are honestly top shelf. One of the things I miss about living in the midwest.

Blue Bell is so overrated, saying that as someone who grew up 20 miles outside of Brenham. HEB Creamy Creations fucks on Blue Bell.

>Haagen-Dazs
Always good. I'd give them about an 8.

>Halo Top
Only tried it twice because they were on a sale a few weeks ago. Surprisingly good for being so low in calories. Solid 7.

>Dairy Queen
My favourite. Always great. 10/10

>Breyers
Pretty decent. Maybe a 7.5/10

Never tried the rest or it's been so long that I don't remember (Nestle and Walmart brands.) Ben & Jerry's is often pretty reasonably priced where I am but I've never bought it on principle.

It used to be good all natural ice cream ~10 years ago but they changed recipe and turned it into processed garbage like Ben and Jerry's. I only buying Haagen Dazs now.

This stuff is great, the jocks keep half the flavours for themselves though.

I'm a recovering fatty though so I tend to just stick to Halo Top, which for low cal stuff really isn't too bad.
