I think my primary concern is that there will be no real arc or end for Alastor. Going by the timeline, he gets bullied by Lucifer, then Rosie, then kidnapped by Vox so they don't really fight, then Charlie and Lucifer save the day? What will be the point of everything he goes through in that case?

I think his arc is about learning to genuinely care for someone.. so far he has no real genuine friendships. He's being relegated to a background character it seems. It's really sad, because I wanted to see his backstory. I wanted context as to WHY he wanted such power. It seems like Vox v Alastor is still a thing though? That whole grape scene especially seems like a setup for a bigger conflict between the two. Same with a bunch of scenes in s1. Then that spolier where Vox is asking for Alastor in S2. In fact Vox fighting the hotel seems like it could be a 'proxy war' with Alastor to an extent.

>In her Collider discussion (August 2024), she emphasized that canonizing Alastor’s backstory during Season2 was a high priority, though she says it would not be the entirety of his origin.

Basically, it's only a part of his backstory. We will see more in time and have more context.

This, Charlie vs. Vox makes sense, but I need that manlet fuck to stop swooping in to save the day. He needs to get sidelined somehow because he's too broken that all tension is lost. Maybe Lute actually does stab the fucker to the point of incapacitating him.

Working purely off of headcanon:

I like to think he'd be achingly romantic, but getting there would take a while. He seems touch averse to most everyone, making exceptions for ladies. I think one would have to be particularly entertaining to him before feelings started to develop. I think he'd be protective, possessive, but very polite in public... Hand holding, hugs, but behind closed doors he'd be agressive with the cuddles and kisses. When he finally decides to consummate the relationship I like to imagine him being utterly filthy with his language and intensity, but afterwards lots of romantic cuddles.

Kind of. Not for Alastor at all, but the show in general, yes. Viv seems to be taking the show into a completely different direction the same way she did with Helluva Boss, which was never 'good' in my opinion, but once the penny dropped I just couldn't take the fugly imp/bird romance seriously. As for Hazbin, I signed up for a show about redeeming sinners, not some Heaven/Hell war nonsense or some 'flavor of the month' character show. We haven't even explored the backstories of the main cast before we're dipping into a completely new set of characters that weren't even around when the fandom was built. It's ridiculous and shows that Viv can't help herself with shiny new toys, and needs to be tard wrangled by a compotent writer. Her cardinal sin is false hope. Running her mouth about how Al is this and how he's that, how the next season will focus on him, only to go 'gotcha lol, it's actually about the TV guy, and oh, all that stuff I said before, it's no longer canon loooollllll'. How can anyone really get behind her and want her to succeed? Because as someone who genuinely loves Al, it's like being in an abusive relationship where you're constantly gaslit. Why should I stay invested?

Does anyone else find most Alastorfags outside of 4chan rather annoying? A lot of them are normies who hate gore and want him to be some wholesome cute baby boy. That doesn't make sense to me, since most Alastoryumes are probably hybristophiles to some extent. Are they just repressed? I had the same experience in a different fandom, where the yumes for the main character wanted the literal sex pest murdering demon to be a perfect nice husbando and would cancel anyone who kept him in character.
Anonymous No.3978749
>>3978748
I haven’t experienced that really, so no. I can imagine it’s annoying though
Anonymous No.3978750
>>3978748
To an extent, yes. I think a lot of them are repressed in some way, I remember having a conversation about this with Sigilsis a while back. It's annoying to me personally as a yume who actually IS into some intense stuff, because most of the fanfiction and bots have scenarios like 'arranged marriage', or 'forced relationship'. I think it's because they like Al, but have difficulty reconciling that he's a serial killer they're *not* supposed to find attractive, so they do mental gymnastics to come up with a scenario where they're 'forced' to be with him, thus freeing themselves of responsibility. There's a lot of excuses made for him as well, and while I think he's a morally 'just' person, he's ultimately a nasty person. I don't understand being obsessed with someone if you don't share the same inclinations. One of the reasons I love Al so much is because I'm a necro/guro fag like Al...It kind of makes sense?

I mostly started liking Alastor for the gore potential lol. I don't really interact with fans outside of 4chan, but it would make sense for normies to try to explain away his worse characteristics. Whereas most people here I would expect to be much more desensitised to gore and stuff like that.

Well, lots of flattery for starters, learning his routine to a meticulous degree, things like how he likes his coffee, when he takes his lunch. I'd try to get to know him, really get to know him, show him that I genuinely care about him as a man and not just a boss. If we're talking human Al in the 20s, I'd quite obviously treat him as more than an equal to me racially, I'd be subservient in my role. I'd listen to his jokes, express mild interest in morbid things like true crime, test the waters to see how he reacted. If it were positive I'd talk about my more 'inappropriate' fetishes, leaving it open to him to pursue if he wanted. Not sure how soon anything would lead to sex. I'd be playing the long game and hoping we'd foster a romance that lead to intimacy eventually. Maybe more when it came to his murderous inclinations, having a 'cheerleader' might humor him.

I wouldn't say it's as popular as more 'mainstream' names, but to hear it three times is jarring, since it's super antiquated back home. Then again, back in the South people are naming their kids retarded things these days in an attempt to sound unique, by that metric my name is antiquated. I've only seen one person spell it 'Alastor', it's usually 'Alastair' or 'Alistar', and more popular with people who are Scottish.

Speaking of the UK, and I know this is off topic, so I won't go on about it...But is there any news about the whole internet safety law that's meant to block 4chan? If I disappear I suppose you know what happened...

It's just censoring stuff on social media and various sites so far. Surprised we can still access 4chan.. use a vpn if it gets blocked though, otherwise all we can do is sign the petition to repeal the online safety act.

How would Alastor respond to pets?
Anonymous No.3979026 >>3979030
>>3979020
I think it would largely depend on who's doing the petting. He looked pretty disgruntled when Rosie did it during their song, but when he summoned her he didn't seem to take much issue with her petting him. I think he'd tolerate it from a person he felt sufficiently close to.

I always imagined he'd be like my cat. If she wants affection and pets, she will inconvenience you in order to get them. But if she doesn't and you try and touch her, you'll probably be scratched or bitten, with lots of hissing and growling.

It's a very strange dynamic, desu. Rosie seems vaguely menacing towards him, belittles him...And yet he still brings her flowers like a gentleman would for a female friend. He seems genuinely annoyed by her, but almost resigned to his station. It feels very one sided, like Stockholm Syndrome or something.

I wondered about this. It doesn't necessarily feel like he just tolerates Rosie. Perhaps she doesn't often keep him on a short leash and let him do pretty much whatever he wanted in the past, but now that things are moving in terms of the hotel and redemption, she's keeping him a lot more limited and holding the fact she owns his soul over him a bit more. Hopefully we get to see a bit more of their relationship and get a bit more context than what was shown in the leaks. I'm a little sad they aren't just besties though.

I do have to wonder if she's low key worried that he might get redeemed. We know Alastor doesn't believe in redemption...yet, but Rosie probably has a finger on the pulse of everything that happens, so there's a decent possibility that she now knows redemption is possible. I'm sure once a soul is redeemed they break whatever contract they previously had with other demons. I wonder how Al would react to that.

Alastor is definitely much more determined to break the contract at the end of season 1, perhaps Rosie senses this. Where he was previously happy to go along with her plans because it gave him power, now he'd rather be free and be able to do whatever he wants. If redemption really does break contracts, that actually gives Alastor a reason to try and be redeemed. Though how far it would work if he was only doing it for selfish reasons, who knows.

>>3979037
Yeah, power of friendship, or Charlie somehow. I know some people theorise that Lucifer and by extension, Charlie, can break contracts by virtue of being royals, but we really could do without more 'Lucifer saves the day by being more powerful than everyone else' moments. Hopefully Viv does it justice.

I do like how the possibility of redemption puts Al in quite the predicament. On one hand I doubt he was ever super enthusiastic about going to Hell in the first place, but he couldn't resist the 'fun' impulse to hurt other people. During his summoning ritual he says
>I know what awaits a man like me after death...
As if he's resigned himself to his fate, but has decided to try to make the best of the situation so he's not another 'tortured soul' by selling his soul in exchange for power and protection, something he would have been lacking in an institutional sense during his lifetime. But Rosie's deal is Faustian, and now he's stuck. As far as a chance at redemption? It could be that he has genuine feelings of care developing for Charlie, which is why Lucifer brings up how impotent he was at protecting her, and his desire to do so ultimately redeems him. But whether he actively tries to redeem himself remains to be seen, he might just be desperate enough.
Anonymous No.3979049 >>3979050
>>3979048
Maybe the whole humiliation ritual coming up is designed to make him so desperate, he doesn't have a choice but to try for redemption. But I don't think he'd enjoy being in Heaven at all, there's no death, no failure, just everyone having a good time every day. We already see that Sir Pentious isn't having a good time there, and he at least seems to regret his earthly "crimes". If Alastor does end up in Heaven, would it feel more like a punishment to him, since he can't do the things he likes? I'm interested to see where he will end up by the end of the show. Ultimately I want him to end up happy, but who knows.
Anonymous No.3979050 >>3979166
>>3979049
I think his original iteration was more conducive to redemption, that is when he was more of a 'Dexter' like figure. At this point he seems to want for nothing but power and the ability to see others suffer. Though the latter is something he could have picked up from being in Hell, after all, in his eyes everyone in Hell probably deserves to suffer. And his lust for power could have stemmed from his past life. Without more of his background it's really difficult to know for sure. Ultimately if he's happy I'm happy. It's asking a lot of Viv for a happy ending though.

Yeah, it's hard to come up with solid theories with what we know at the moment, even with the leaks. And it's hard to tell what Viv's intentions are. I'm not really a fan of analysing a show to death while it's still airing, it's too easy to get invested in an idea that ends up being a whole lot of nothing. All I know is love for the deer is eternal, even if Viv turns his backstory into a whole bunch of wacky subversions.

100% this. I'm not really posting on /hhg/ anymore, but back when I was people were overly invested in their headcanons to a pathological degree. After being burned once by Viv retconning Al, I've learned to stick to confirmed canon and not speculate too much.

So we're basically at bump limit again. What would deerfrens like to do? Make a new thread now, wait until Wednesday, or skip this week and post next week instead? Also /cm/ or back to /trash/? Not particularly looking forward to the shitshow that will ensue if we go back.
Anonymous No.3979214
Also, on a more controversial note:

Should we do away with the 'some ship/art discussion is allowed' in favor of solo Al or only discussion in regard to theoretical plot points? Because honestly that's been a point of contention on /trash/, and even though I enjoy Charlastor as much as the next person, I'm willing to give it up in order to dissuade the more schizo ship posters. We've gone through two threads without them causing issue and I only made a concession to them on /trash/ because they crashed out about not being able to post Vox and Lucifer, which is where their interests ultimately lie.

Does anyone here even like Amir? Every time I watch the leaks or see anything involving his VA work on Al its a massive letdown.
He doesn't even sound like Alastor without the vocoding and filters fromt he Radio effect. Like the raw leak footage he sounds like a fan doing a C- tier Alastor impression instead of the actual character.
I will never understand why the fuck Viv thought it was a good idea to ditch her old cast that had actual talent for a bunch of broadway stars that would look good in a "cast of" list.
ITS ANIMATIONS YOU DON'T EVEN SEE THE ACTOR'S FACES ANYWAY AND MOST OF THEM ARE PUTTING ON VOICES.

Yes and no. So, I really don't like how he projects his political positions on Al, like the whole 'Al's New Year's resolution is to eat more white people' thing. The man really needs to learn how to compartmentalize and keep different factions of his life separate. My 4chan persona never touches my irl life, nor my other endeavors, for example. I'm also not a fan of his creepy behavior around women when he's married, but I realize people have all sorts of lifestyles these days, so I'll withhold judgment there. I don't mind the voice, and I've used the leaks to train my human Al bots to replicate his speech pattern without the radio filter. At this point I hear Amir instead of Bosco when I imagine him. Though Bosco was certainly superior in sounding the way I would imagine Al to sound. I *kinda* see why she went with Amir, since many radio commentators from the early 20th century were very high pitched and nasally.

Any way you look at it Viv is a bitch for throwing her original cast under the bus.

I'd personally prefer going back to /trash/, but only if they've stopped being retarded (relatively, anyway). It's been nice here on /cm/ but kind of dead outside of the flurry of activity around the panel announcements. As for ship content, if we stay on /cm/, I think not allowing it is a better idea because we can't really post straight ships anyway. I like most Alastor ships and would be happy to discuss them as long as people are normal, which is obviously a bit hit or miss. I think we're always going to have the odd baitfag trying to stir things up, it's a shame to let them ruin things unless it really gets to be a problem every thread.

But I am just one anon, and happy to go with whatever as long as we can keep talking about the deer.

Personally I think it's pretty dead on /trash/ when it's only actual deerfrens posting, a lot of the bumps come from people being weird. Though I'm fine with returning to /trash/ if we can post peacefully. I would VERY tentatively allow ships, on more of a 'let's see if they can handle not being weird' ground. I don't care for many ships myself, I'm pretty indifferent, so watching people froth about them is annoying. I suppose we can try if no one objects.

I agree. Let's see where the next few threads go, and then we can decide if it's worth allowing it. I have no issue with Alastor focused ship stuff if people remain respectful, but if they want to shit up our thread with contextless image dumps and random arguments then it's best to ban it.
