Something that always buggered me was Sue's response to Paulo stating that her play sucked, and that even David said it sucked.

Her response was "You BELIEVE him?!"

Which really isn't a response at all. She was focused on Paulo believing David about the play being bad, despite him saying it sucked right out the gate.

And so this new dialogue in Participation Trophy, I believe, ties into that. He says "Your play sucked" first, followed by "Even David says so." This establishes that HE thought the play was bad independently of what David thought, and she completely ignored it. She directs her frustration at David instead of HIM, because she doesn't want to think about PAULO not liking the play. It has to be someone else's fault. She genuinely believes Paulo couldn't/ wouldn't have thought the play was bad unless David told him to think that. She doesn't want to believe Paulo thinks her play was bad.

Plus her whole side tangent over Paulo, someone who was not at all involved in the scene she's walking away from, shows how rent free he lives in her head. I dunno guys, lookin' pretty suspicious.

She basically "Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing"-ed her way to being the most sympathetic main character by default.

Let Lucy be reminded that she at her best and kindest, is less attractive than Sandy at her worst and most selfish. Allow Mike to fall into the neglected long-suffering househusband role he's clearly destined for. And have Paulo and Daisy accept that they are worthless horny worms and they should be grateful Sandy even spares the attention to crush and humiliate them. Certainly it's a happier ending for Sandy, and I think even Mike would be happier than he'd be with Lucy or alone.

I'm starting to wonder if next chapter is basically Mike deciding that Daisy was right and maybe he should just stop putting other people like Sandy first all the time. So he tells James that it's okay if they date after all but wuh oh James has already moved on and wants to bang David instead, showing just how shallow his alleged love for Mike always was. Then he calls Mike clingy and gray cat spergs out at the sheer hypocritical bullshit, alienating James.

I don't know how Lucy comes back to the table, which is an obvious weakness to this scenario.

Watching how shit slowly became super popular and by 2011 shit exploding, doubling in popularity every month once cascade hit. Watching the fandom evolve into something amazing yet unholy to the point shit really was the peak of internet culture.

Slowly watching it die because of the fandom its popularity and Hussie just losing control getting a bunch of money his father dying and just unable to control what he created. Completely ditching what he had planned ending homestuck by 2013. Instead listening enabling and giving into what the fandom wanted completely killing the series. going on nonstop break only to come back and release garbage pandering to tumblr. shitting on old&true fans by reconting shit and literally having vriska magically save everything.
While also ending the series on such a disappointment.
At least the music flashes and etc only got better from day 1.

Firstly because I have gotten so sick of Mike and Lucy's bullshit that I don't WANT to see them happy. Taeshi pulled that trick too many times and now Mike or Lucy doing anything different would itself be unbelievable; if nothing thus far has inspired them to move on and grow, nothing will. The relationship drama already had a near-death experience, multiple confessions/rejections, suicide attempt, cheating, and tearful apologies. There's no more room to escalate.

Secondarily, I like Sandy as a character and want her to be happy; if it's at the expense of the main 4 that's all the better.

And due to those two reasons, I find the idea of Sandy mindbreaking Mike/Lucy/Daisy/Paulo through her sheer superiority both funny and cathartic.

Their what-if versions, sure, but that means pretending that Mike could regrow his spine and Paulo could have evolved into an actual chad. Because unlike the main four, Sandy's not a miserable sadsack turbocuck or a psychotic bipolar asshole. Sure, she's the designated villain and thus got retconned into loving her job and cheating offscreen to make her less sympathetic, but at least she's not blatantly self-destructive. I find it easier to sympathize with a selfish character than one who's actions make no sense whatsoever.

And back in the before-times when the characters were still likable/nuanced and hadn't had all their positive qualities retconned or dropped, Sandy was the ubercat. She was more attractive and had a harder life than Lucy, more gentle/innocent than Daisy, more playful and fun than Paulo, and kinder/sweeter than Mike. So regardless of whether you judge the characters as they were, as they are, or as they could be, Sandy still comes out on top. The only way she doesn't is if you compare her as she is to Mike/Lucy/Paulo/Daisy as they could ideally be.

Yeah that is true. Usually stories that go on and on over the years tend to lose their essence. I never read Homestuck, despite being fully aware of it at the time it started to become popular, back in 2012 or so, but I can see it being the case. In any case, it is true for BCB. It has lost much of it's essence over the years, unfortunately.

Still, I do find it interesting how the most random things can sometimes amass some considerable following.

I guess this was the reason why Taeshi decided to do what she did, and turned her into an excessively selfish person, who showed no interest in her boyfriend, made no effort to repair things before it reached the almost-breaking point, showed little interest in being part of his life, etc.

Modern Sandy, like I said, is a hoe, and her attempt to mend things with Mike feels non-genuine as hell. Makes you wonder why the hell does she even bother to do it, considering her relationship with Mike offers so little nowadays.

I am admittedly being a BIT overgenerous: even at her best, Sandy wasn't the sharpest tool, but she was way nicer and more genuine than anyone else in the comic. And Sandy has a way harder life than any of the main 4. Compared to Sandy keeping her cool even under the incredible pressure put on her, Lucy's trauma or Mike's resentment seem downright childish.

Sandy is a flawed diamond; formed under incredible pressure, hard and sharp enough to cut glass. The only ones who've had more hardship in their lives are Augustus and Abbey, two characters who are not coincidentally ALSO razor-sharp, steel-nerved, and ice-cool.
