It's a "twist" on the most well established canon to ever exist, made for a nerdy fan base who are extremely autistically obsessed with what is and isn't canon. To get away with that, you have to be very deliberate and very consistent with what aspects of canon you respect and which aspects you subvert, and how you subvert them. Pretty easy to understand the hate. The premise of the show is that repeat offender unrepentant evil people are having their souls destroyed in Hell while the show insists that they can redeem themselves despite none of the sinners showing an actual interest. The sinners love being evil. Even Lucifer outright says it:

"Charlie our people are AWFUL!!!"

And it really doesn't help that they depict Heaven as being stupid that they don't know the rules of how good souls are allowed into Heaven since the beginning of creation. The whole show is badly written shit about trying to make it seem like evil characters deserve happiness when what they deserve is torture and damnation. And Season 2's leaks only went to show how horrible the show really is written with the revelation that the sinners were being gathered by Lilith to intentionally declare War on Heaven.

It's honestly confusing how this entity has so many monikers but honestly I think that's the point.
The scriptures never exactly give us proper detail of demonology outside of magic books and the like, possibly for the same reason that God omits certain details on purpose, which he admits to doing so in scripture.

B) Damned souls don't go to a pit of fire (yet), they go to "The Outer Darkness", away from God's light... and that seems to be the whole punishment, you know God exists, you know what it'd be like to be in Heaven with him, and you're locked outside
C) There is also the "Lake of Fire", something that all evil will be thrown in and destroyed, damned souls included, but this will only be after Judgement Day, and only after every soul is judged a second time on said day
