If I swapped the motors/electronics from a 6" build onto a 7" frame is there any chance I could use the same BF tune with both prop sizes and just switch between 4s and 6s? Motors are Brotherhobby Avenger 2507 1850kv.

I wanna know how to build a drone like the Ukrainians use against the ruZZians. That's a real drone and the rest of this stuff is garbage. That's what we should all be building and learning to fly. We're gonna need that skill as a society soon when WW3 expands since it's already been going on since ruZZia invaded Ukraine.

as far as I know the kamakaze ones are basically hobby ones anyone could build, with a few aux controls to detonate/drop explosives.
the only real oddball thing about the current ones is the fiber optic control links they run in areas with jammers.

I bought one kit similar to this for 80eur last month, later saw the same frame and flight controller on ukraine video footage with an RPG-like warhead underneath being prepared for launch
Most of them seem to be 7" or 10" frames

The only expensive part is the fiber optic wire control, but that's optional

im not sure about open source but fpv skydive on steam is free and its pretty decent
theres a not a lot of stuff you can fly for free, and they have a lot of pay shit too
apparently i bought uncrashed on steam years ago and thats what i use these days
it's pretty good but its $15, but you do get everything no extra pay shit.

>That's a real drone and the rest of this stuff is garbage.

They literally fly *exactly* the same builds we fly for fun. Same frames, same motors, same FCs/ESCs, same FPV equipment, same transmitters, all the same manufacturers, etc.

Literally the only difference is they strap on a fiber optic reel while we just use ELRS.

Even the stuff they make in house from scratch is the same we make as hobbyists. Picrelated on the left is one of my custom frame designs from a few years before the war, middle/right is a Ukrainian custom design.

Alright, very valid point and to a degree I retort and appreciate your input. I'm not talking these home made carbon fiber drones, I'm talking about all the store bought pre-assembled and neutered stuff with geofencing and other limits mandated for hobbyists. Even DJI stuff that's not on the professional end of size and lifting power. Syma drones too (I have one and it's crap but it was cheap and my first learning quad) but it's utterly useless in wind and I regret buying it.

To be honest, it was because of all you hobbyists that this whole quadcopter (or X props copters) blew up and became a thing. So I appreciate that a lot and respect it. You guys grew this genre and have now helped change the face of warfare forever. Can't put that genie back in the bottle now.

They're even teaching ordinary citizens in Europe in certain countries that border ruZZia to fly these drones because of the illegal war against Ukraine in preparation for the same to happen to them. That's what I'm interested in.

first flight went pretty well all things considered.
i couldnt get the compass right so i disabled it,
the elevator was reversed which i knew ardupilot was weird with that but i forgot to check it.
just reversed it real quick and then flew around for a bit, but the tune was terrible out of the box
got a lot of work to do on that
sounded like a humming bird going into a wood chipper but still flew pretty well actually and way quieter than smaller ones.
it hovers at about 10% throttle so maybe a tad overpowered which i like.

It is a pretty weird feeling when I watch the news & see pictures of quads identical to the ones I have on my shelves at home, but in the context of deadly weapons.

Similarly weird knowing that if I lived in Ukraine, I would almost certainly have been recruited to build & fly quads for the army.

I bought a cheap vrx/vtx combo in 2014, and am finally getting into it, and I understand vrxs have gotten better i.e. diversity, but have vtxs? It's a boscam ts351 and rc805. Any reason to upgrade the ts351 other than weight or nah? Weight is not that big a deal for me as this will be for a 5 lb car. I bought a skyzone cobra x and it's great vs the RC805.

VTXs have become more powerful and gained things like smartaudio, tramp which allow you to control the VTX remotely, and pit modes. Old VTXs are still fine if you're not pressed for space, weight, or looking to go very far, but even a VTX from 5-7 years ago is probably going to be more powerful and have more features than one from 2014.

Same here, but just a little shy of you in terms of years of experience (about 17 years at this point) across both fixed wing and helicopters. My yard is not even big enough for those types of models that you mention, though.

I used to have a flying site, but I left because I was paying $175 per year to only fly maybe once every quarter or so. So I left the local and AMA membership.

I travel about 45 minutes away to a park which is big enough, then walk for about ten minutes to an open field. I have not flown since June and before that was March (twice). This morning was likely my last chance until October and I think that I might have other priorities then, so it might not be until late November or even the middle of December when I can fly again.

What is even more embarrassing is that someone who has been doing RC for five to seven years could out-fly me, whereas I cannot do aerobatics. I focus on never crashing as I do not have the money for spare parts, let alone a replacement (though I have enough saved from the past two years to go to a swap meet and pick up some spare parts, or maybe a model or two). When half of the models that you fly are over a decade old, spare part availability is always questionable at best (except for Dynam, who still have the same models in there catalogue).

My kit stash (of shame):
>GWS P-40
>NaPolskimNiebie I-153
>NaPolskimNiebie Zlin Z-50
ARFs:
>Maxford USA Curtiss Pusher
>Phoenix Model Sonic Low Wing
Secondhand restoration projects:
>Ares P-51D (almost airworthy)
>E-Flite X-Vert (needs a radio compatible, but now I have a DX6i for it)
>Unknown Micro Quad (TinyWhoop/Inductrix type of craft)
>Flyzone Mini Switch
>Hobbyking Stinger 64mm (the original red one)
>Spektrum FPV set (which I think was made by Fat Shark, back when they were at their height)
Plus about 50 plastic model kits.

OP, if you want something nice, you should look into MicroAces and MinimumRC, they have some very lovely looking kits in your size.

The picture here is of my Sukhoi Su-29, by the way. It is an older E-Flite model bought in October of 2019. These were good value despite being from Horizon, since for $200, you got 13g metal gear digital servos, which comparable offerings from RocHobby (the MXS), FMS (the Edge 540, etc) and Flyzone (Extra 330) did not give you for about the same amount of money or even more. When I was flying more frequently (once every two months instead of once every 3-5 months), I was coordinated enough to do stuff like loops and rolls.

>Actually buying a Horizon product

Oh yeah, any fellow fixed wing boomers want me to pick up and send stuff to you from the swap meet, if you need spares and the like.

I know the one, blue white and red, Yak, if my memory serves me right.

When I was starting fixed wing ~10 years ago, the goal was to do IMAC or pattern. I am nowhere near precise enough and the trends in aerobatic aircraft have shifted. I miss those days of 3D (2000s especially). I still watch some of the old demonstrations from that time, the new guys are not that smooth, they do too many snap rolls and tumbles, which are hard maneuvers to control. Also they fly the same two aircraft always. It is either a Slick or a Laser these days. It has been years since I have since a Yak, Sukhoi, Ultimate or Cap compete in these competitions.

>Great Planes
I miss Hobbico so much. They had several models that I wanted, but never got (especially the Electrifly Gee Bee).

I have thought about getting this NOS Heli-Max Axe EZ that I found for flying indoors and in the yard, but it uses NiMH packs, if my memory serves me right, which I do not mind using, I just need to get some.

Do you have RealFlight? I will set-up a session next weekend/Friday evening. I can do some 3D pretty well, but I will need for you to download a couple of models. Simulators are far from perfect, but it should help you learn.

I would also suggest checking out RA Cores, they have a cheap Yak that seems perfect for learning to hover on.

As much as I love Multiplex, I am a Simprop and Graupner man myself (also because of how autistic Graupner was in subject selection, for example, they never made a Cub, but they made a Husky, a Wilga and a Stinson Voyager, not to mention their quad VTOL).

I found a Multiplex Smiley in Hungary (the first Multiplex foamie). I am seriously thinking of importing it along with a domestically made foamie called the Chilliplanes Yper (it is almost a box wing).

This is where they are available: https://rchungary.hu/en/

That said, these are part of a long list of stuff that I want and the Axe EZ is probably the next to be bought, unless I can negotiate a good deal on an E-Flite Sea Fury on RCGroups. It is NIB and the asking is $225, I want $175 for it. Some of those guys have treated me well and I got a NIB Parkzone Stinson Reliant for $100 on there.

My version of RF is from a disc, it is 7.5, but multiplayer works across all version, except for RFX and RF Drone, I will probably change my username to "HeadDucker". I will provide some Catbox files of a few good models for 3D (Zlin 50, Zlin 526, Katana, Cap 21 and RV-6A), plus colorschemes. Keep your eyes peeled during the week, as I will share the links then.

Thoughts on the Horizon retro re-releases of the Champ and mCx? The Champ has special value for me as that is what I learned to fly on before getting 4 channel models (I bought only Parkzone and Flyzone in those days).

Racing drones are cool, but that is an entirely different rabbit hole. I remember when multirotors was still incredibly niche before stuff like the Phantom came out. Times when people were much nicer to the hobby.

I need to order a nitro engine for a model too, probably get an Enya 29 for it.

By the way, Alfa Models are still going and there is also this company in Poland who make old school kit style models, I have two of their models and I am working (slowly) on the I-153.

NTA, but the Hobbyzone Champ, as per the sticky. You can find them used for $50 or sometimes less. New is $120 without the transmitter, though. I am a bit biased, but once you fly it enough, you can land on a picnic table with ease and you can even slope soar them.
Also there used to be a modding culture that was significant.

Plus many more.

I would also check out the MicroAces Scrappy and Hobbyzone Sport Cub. Some of the older Parkzone and Flyzone micros are great too, just hard to come by.

Mind telling me where you got the gondola sticker from?

I'll have to take a look at some of those graupner models..

As for 1s nano plane rcs there's a bunch.
Already mentioned are the mirco aces and minimum RC. Pictured futher up the thread is my TY model KP300 red. There's a green version with slightly different design. Its a very good flyer and can fly slow. Shop around on minimum RC to get an idea of the electronics you need. They'll end up costing about $60 usa to get in the air.
There's just so much mini/nano stuff on banggood and ali express. You can really take your pick. There's also volantex mini models. I has the volantex 761-4. It was quite good sold it. It has more speed. Going into the faster models you can find some fast but small 2s stuff with brushlless.

I have the dancing wings E23 ice cream plane but haven't built it yet.. theres a similar version of this plane umder a different name being sold on banggood..

Anyway, dont be like me and buy more than you fly..

Call it the new version of e23 ice cream

it's an old https://kommandostore.com/ item that's not available anymore (picrel), they do have other gondola stuff tho. could email them, they may be cool enough to do a re-run of them.

Kommando store has gone downhill the past few years, sadly. Still not a bad store, but there is a lot of out of stock items.

AnonFile is gone and Catbox is down for me, but I have some goodies for you, use the import function, it should be able to handle the .zip, but if not, open it and import the .rfx and .g3x files individually. Make sure to do the "_ea" (entire aircraft) files first.

I will be posting some helicopter updates sometime in the near future (I have not bought it yet as I was waiting for my credit card term to pass). Since that is over with, I am going to buy the model this evening, when I get back home.

Otherwise, I have not done much to do with RC this week. Maybe this weekend, I will do something.

has anybody here opened up hardcase packs for repair before?
I don't want to recycle all 4 packs (14 cells in total) over three failing cells and a broken balance connection.

Get some Typhon 3s wheels, they hold up on 6s and are much much cheaper.

I bought some proline badlands PRO906731 to try out. and to be fair that blown tire did have a tiny sidewall tear that I glued up.
>Typhon 3s wheels
I'll keep that in mind for my next jennys order, $35 a set is pretty good.

how does the 3s typhon feel in comparison?

>I bought some proline badlands PRO906731
I think I've talked about this before but I bought those exact ones for mine too and literally the first time I used the throttle, 3 of them tore off from the rims and one tyre had the foam insert rip explode into chunks, the non-belted ones can't handle 6s AT ALL, I reglued them and used them only with a 4s battery no problems but still, very disappointing for how much they cost. I could have bought 3 whole sets of 3s tyres from Jennies for what the Badlands cost. The 3s is my buddies that I used from time to time, so much lighter and easier to control but the amount of times we had to stop early and go home because his slipper clutch wore out was ridiculous. I wonder if they ever fixed that on the newer models.
Anonymous No.2941536 >>2941559

that's disappointing to hear, the prolines I have for my SCT have taken a shitload of abuse on a high power 3s system without issue. PRO116710 and PRO119010 if you're wondering.

do you run really thick center diff fluid? I've never felt the need to get a wheelie bar with 20k cst in the center.

>I wonder if they ever fixed that on the newer models.
223s models come with a center diff. not a fan of the all in one esc but, my friends senton is fantastic. imo all it really needs is a better motor fan.
Anonymous No.2941559 >>2941565
>>2941536
IIRC I have 250k for centre and front, 100k for rear, been a while since I've had to tear the diffs down. The wheelie bar was more to protect the wing when doing flips and even then it broke pretty quickly as it was from a 3s basher, you need the wheelie bar that bolts on to your upper wing mount from the 6s Outcasts, definitely worth it imo. Has your friend mastered two wheel driving on the Senton? Apparently it's pretty easy with that model specifically.

his 4s mojave can do that easily. I don't think either of us have tired with the senton

Should I get ev800d or Hdzero box pro?

I know DJI o-4 was the way to go but it looks like it’s going to be banned in America soon.

My thinking is you can’t ban analog

They can ban one just as much or as little as they can ban the other. The fact that one is analog & the other is digital makes no difference.

I took them out yesterday, burned through 3 4s packs. while they did drive nice once I adjusted to them (lol traction roll), they balloon more than the stock dboots. I took some slowmo video too, picrel.
maybe I'll just stick to 4s for the time being, seeing as my only 6s pack has a failing cell.

Anonymous No.2942115 >>2942194

I forgot to say they still balloon quite a lot on 4s but not enough to destroy them, it's nice if you want air control for flips but you'll find you need a pretty big jump to do one on 4s. Speaking of slow mo, you can see how the 3s 2HOs handle 6s full power like nothing
