I think you overestimate how much most people can achieve in the gym in 5 years. Of course some people can do much more but I trained alone totally and when you do that it's a lot harder. I trained really hard by the way, but not necessarily optimally obviously and diet and better training wouod have helped. However I would not have achieved my current body without gear. Maybe you could have but I could not.
I started with a weight of around 68kg and now am 88kg
I've been cruising on 187.5mg of test for a year now and was on 200-220 for a year before that plus 2-3iu of HGH which I started for injury repair. The first 2 years of gear I did higher amounts and sometimes mixed in new compounds like NPP but my dosages were always low as I seemed to respond quite well, plus I never wanted to be bigger than 90kg.
Now I'm focused on being more athletic as I play multiple sports and the gym is just to keep me going in between training days for my sports. The only thing I'm working at currently is bench which is going alright.

My last maintenance phase lasted far too long because I couldn't commit to the cut, so I feel you. Idk how many days you're lifting a week, but I find three days on a cut sufficient.. anything more and I'm just killing myself and really degrading in performance.
Check out the "ripped body macro" calculator for the cutting "mostly sedentary" range. You might find that it recommends you eat more calories than you are for your cut, which would help.. it definitely did me. I found it to be very accurate for me needs

Cut again and now I'm maintaining at 158-160. I'll do a 12 week lean bulk this September, 4 week cut in winter, 8 week lean bulk, then a 10 week cut into summer, I should be at 165-170. My time line is currently 18 months in, 10 more to go. I like my current physique I want to gain 10lbs of lean muscle tissue and I'll be content to maintain that for life

Cut down from 190 after 2 years of survival mode after first kid.
I feel like if I cut I'll just be a skeleton, but at around 20% bodyfat thats probably the only play right?
My diet is strict, but I feel like maintenence and recomp at 2200 calories is just too high for all this dough on me.
Any advice?

Sucks to go backwards from my 20s. I used to have decent lifts (225 for 5 bench) now I cant help but be depressive about being 10 years older and weaker than ever. (165 feels so heavy)
20/4 fasts and maintaining protein helped me drop my first 12 pounds. Ill probably aim for 165 and see how it looks and feels. Cheers.
