Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.

Another week another 5 pounds, I started the year at 411 and now Iโ€™m almost about to break into the 200s. Iโ€™ve been a 300 pound tub of shit since freshman year of high school so this is exciting for me. Itโ€™s nice to be able to actually buy human sized clothing at actual stores instead of humiliating specialty shops like king size and big boy (those real Iโ€™m not joking).

To the people in the thread who are having slow progress, the number one thing that helped me was portions. Macros are literally worthless when it comes to weight loss, aside from protein (which I guarantee you get enough of) there really isnโ€™t any nutrients you need for weight loss. You can eat the healthiest food with the best macros and still gain weight, itโ€™s the calories. I started actively trying to lose weight in 2024 but I didnโ€™t lose a pound until I started seriously portion controlling. You can go โ€œoh this only has X amount of calories per servingโ€ and then inadvertently eat 3 or 4 servings at once. Cashews arenโ€™t super high calorie but the portion size on the jar is 27 grams. Thatโ€™s fucking nothing, thatโ€™s less than a palmful.

You want to lose weight like me? 1500 calories strict, no cheat days no gimmicks. Donโ€™t substitute exercise for calories, workout if you want but donโ€™t count it in your calorie count. You WILL lose weight if you do this, I promise. Things that work for me are yogurts and premade salads for portion control, amazon fresh has some surprisingly good salads, the fiesta salad is delicious. Lean cuisines are excellent for portion control and calorie counting, Iโ€™ve been eating them religiously this whole time and the results have been great.

The hardest thing for me was accepting the new routine, no fast food or restaurant outings. The weekends were always the day I loaded up on garbage food so that was tough to accept. You get used to it though, itโ€™s so much cheaper to live like this too. I spend maybe 50 bucks a week on food.

It's a turkish dish, called mualle:
100g lentils (precooked),
1 aubergine/eggplant, diced, salted then washed,
and a mix of 1 onion, garlic, tomato paste, 2 peppers, 2 tomatoes, aci biber and a hot chili from last year's harvest (frozen). Also added: 1Tbsp zero kcal grenadine, 2 tbsp lemon juice, a handful of fresh mint chopped.

Put a third of the mixture in a pot, then half the aubergine, then half the lentils, then repeat and top with the rest of the mixture and let it cook for a while. I just put it in my ricecooker on the slowcooker setting for 2-3 hours. Probably one of my favorite vegetable dishes. I added some snoy granulate into the mixture for additional protein (and texture) and topped it with some cottage cheese both to add protein and to counter the heat a little (the chilis I grow are insanely hot).

The only thing about this dish that sucks is the time it takes to braise/cook, so if you have a slow cooker or rice cooker with that functionality it's super easy to do, if not that part is a bit annoying I'll admit.
I would recommend learning to cook, it's fun, it's socially valued, it's healthy and it saves you money. Truly a based skill, even if it can seem a bit scary at first to get into.

I think being morbidly obese is far more dangerous to your health than eating at a high deficit. If youโ€™re 300 pounds you should have zero issue eating 1500 calories a day, you have to eat 3500 a day just to maintain that weight. When I hear people talk about how my food intake is unsustainable (despite the fact Iโ€™ve been sustaining it quite easily for 7 months) I just think back to that clip on my 600 pound life where the guy said he was worried about getting malnourished and dr. My secret weapon is those zero sugar electrolyte powders. I have a huge bottle of one every morning and it seems to satiate my cravings until lunch time. Today Im down 31 pounds from the last week in March. I've done it by basically not eating until dinner and walking a ton. Ive recently started adding canned chicken breast for lunches to give me more protein and salt. Ive been craving fruit a bunch too so i eat that as my dessert. Mostly peaches and plums. Dinners are varied but generally smaller portions. I'm aiming to lose another 4 pounds but may go farther depending on how i feel. Im currently in normal BMI and have reduced my blood pressure and cholesterol to normal levels.

I've been looking at how much protein I should be eating. I had been eating about 70g a day since the start of 2024. According to my research the ideal amount is 1,5g or 1,6g/kg of body weight per day depending on research. That's like 150g of protein for my weight. Seems like an insane amount of protein to eat, I'm just not used to eating that much.

I went to buy cold cuts to try and relearn to eat a more proper diet according to the protein intake science and it just dawned on me how much meat I'll actually have to buy and eat.

Do people actually consume that much? Like I eat 3 meals a day of 500 kcal on my diet. Evidently the turkey cuts I bought were highly processed and are only 19g of protein per 100g of turkey. So I have to eat 210 grams of turkey in a sandwich to hit my 50g macro for the meal. That's like 9 slices of turkey. I'll ask next time at the charcuterie section which of their turkeys is the most pure/has the most protein to not end up with highly processed ones again.

I guess I'll be buying chicken breasts too to mix it up.

Am I missing something? Should you aim for 1,5g/kg of current body weight or lean body mass?

Yeah that's what I got after further researching it. That makes it manageable. Research seems to say you should raise your proteins however between 1,6 to 2,2g/kg of LBM during a caloric deficit. That's more or less what our current understanding says, its not a controversial take, though there's no study I can point to that will prove/disprove it either.

The big factors on loose skin are:
>Your age
Your skin naturally gets looser as you get older, no avoiding this.
>How much fat you gained
The more fat you gained/lost the more your skin needed to compensate for it, if you gained/lost 150+lbs expect far more loose skin than if you only gained/lost 40lbs
>How long you were fat
The underlying collagen structure of your skin takes a long time to adapt. It takes roughly 12 to 24 months to change its underlying structure, if you've been fat for that long your skin will have the collagen structure built up for your old weight, and it'll take another 12 to 24 months (from the time you hit your new weight) for it to fully change to your new weight. This is likely where the idea that losing it too fast will give you loose skin comes from. If you lose it slowly your skin will have had more time to adapt to your new weight than if you lose it fast, but if you wait the full duration the amount of loose skin you end up with will be roughly the same in the end. Keep the weight off for a year or two and losing it fast or slow will have made no difference.
>How fast you gained the weight;
Gaining it faster means your skin needed to compensate more and with less time to adapt which caused more damage to the collagen network than if you gained it slowly giving your skin time to adapt gradually. This is primarily where stretch marks come from, but anything that damages the skin will contributes to loose skin.
>How healthy your skin is
This has a lot of factors but genetics, general skin care, diet, limiting sun exposure, not smoking, ect all contribute here, healthier skin is better at adapting than damaged skin. Anything that damages your skin like smoking/sun tanning/ect will contribute to looser skin overall.

His activity is being counted twice by the looks of it. "Exercise" and "Tracker Activity" are both measuring the same thing and his app is applying them both. He should pick just one, the lower of the two is likely more accurate but even then it could be off by a wide margin. The calories burned estimates by apps, smartwatches, heart monitors, exercise equipment, ect are notoriously bad and overestimates calories burned seemingly across the board, usually by 20~70% depending on which device you're using. None of the ones I've ever seen tested underestimated calories, it was always overestimating them, and its usually overestimating and by a large margin. The only way to actually know how many calories you're burning is to measure how much CO2 you're exhaling and no app is going to do that, they're going to track your heart rate, body temperature, and other biometrics that are tangentially related and then use some algorithm to guess at a number, but if you want to know how many calories you're burning during exercise pic related is the kind of setup you need, no app or other device is going to give you an accurate reading unless its got a huge tube running from the device to your face so it can measure how much CO2 you're exhaling.

His real TDEE is probably closer to 2600kcal putting his deficit at ~350kcal, not 1700kcal
