Totally agree. Nearly every gym is equipped to cater to the cultural milieu. People want bench press stations, so they have bench press stations.
You can bench in a rack if the rack has a fine enough adjustment on the safeties. When youβre lying on your back, your sternum is higher than your stomach. If your a giant fat fuck, youβre stomach can compress lower than your sternum without hurting you.
You just set the safeties on the rack so theyβre just a little lower than your sternum. Iβve never seen anyone bench in a rack in a public gym.
Racks take up just as much space as a bench. Theyβre multi-purpose as well. The only reason for bench press stations instead of racks is some kind of misplaced tradition.
