My company are full of zoomers, and some of them complained that I demanded that every communication should be made in e-mail.
So they managed to get everyone to use Discord (because it's "free", and they all know how to use it), and as a silent protest, I wrote in my bio a fake warning that gives the impression I was being investigated for being a member of multiple extremist Slavic nationalist groups (I am from Brazil, just to add context), and everything that was sent to me was being recorded. Apparently, zoomers believe in anything that has an emoji of a warning sign.
RH asked me to remove it, but the pic related is more or less the thing.

While I understand the ephemeral nature of IRC is one of its desirable features today, I think it also runs counter to the public perception of the internet. It's supposed to be a repository of information, accessible at any time and viewed as permanent. (The reality does not match this understanding, of course, but out of flaws and deliberate manipulation, not by design.) So I can see that lacking history for conversations when you were not present could be viewed as a flaw.
Since most channels have some kind of 24/7 bot for command purposes, maybe it you could include a command to deliver old conversations, but I guess then you'd have to decide how far back it should go. You could say, like, a day by default, but if that's as far as it goes you may as well just not bother at all. If you archived history at all, it'd be easier to have one outside the client than trying to hamfist delivering history within it (similar to how 4chan archives work).

I understand the desire for "you had to be there", but if you're suggesting IRC as an alternative communication hub to discord, you're going to want to cover the use-case of intermittent users.

We pulled money to rent the venue the first couple of years and then when it blew up we got advertising outside of the industry. This was years before the "e-sports" cancer set in. These faggots took it over from the inside and murdered it. They excluded everyone over the age of about 30 (long time players) and ruined all the deals we'd made with the venue and local businesses. No one wanted to be associated with the cancer they were pushing. People in the local area didn't want to bring their children and have them around these sick fucks. The long time players didn't show up anymore. They thought all of this was a-okay as long as they got their safe space and thought companies like Capcom would show up with a bag of money to support them. Which didn't happen. So now the only major for this region no longer exists.
