Update Radeon Adrenalin driver to 25.6.3 (performance improvement)
RTX 50 Super rumors: 5070 Ti Super 24GB, 5080 Super 24GB, 5070 Super 18GB

>Omissions
RTX 5070 Ti: buy if you need CUDA, if you value DLSS/Reflex that highly, and if the 5060 Ti 16GB or 5070 isn't performant enough.
RTX 5070: buy if it's reasonably priced & if you plan to work around potential VRAM bottlenecks.
RX 9070 non-XT: current 9070 prices in the US are too close to the 9070XT's.

>Product Notice
Gigabyte RTX 50 & RX 9000 video cards: thermal gel has QC issues.
Gigabyte claims only early production batches were affected.
https://www.igorslab.de/en/update-on-thermal-putty-on-gigabyte-graphics-cards-after-further-storage-oil-separation-to-an-alarming-extent-and-silence-as-a-strategy/

AOC Q27G40XMN: nice budget 1440p miniLED monitor if you win the QC lottery.
Bad one causes HDR content to look overbrightened and desaturated when applying the best local dimming option.

โ‚ฌ200 for a motherboard feels a little much but I don't know which board to get that's cheaper.

What boost clocks do most 5070s hit by default? I boughted the pny 5070 last week and it's usually around 3ghz, this sound right?
Also when I feel like overclocking do I just take the same strategy I had with Turing? Where I don't touch power limits and just strap an aio to it? Is it still one boost peg or whatever every 5 degrees you lose after 35?

There are some big improvements in RT, it's what RDNA4 targeted after all.
A driver-updated 9070 non-XT is running RT almost as fast as a launch 9070XT.

Waitโ„ข for guys like Daniel Owen to retest & compare these cards.
But I don't think the conclusion's going to change.
DLSS isn't a perfect upscaler and Optiscaler isn't that hard to work with.

There's a lot less reason to buy $300~$1,000 GeForce cards strictly for gaming.

You can drop the PSU capacity down to 750W if you need to save some money.
Very few real workloads are going to utilize both the CPU & GPU @ 100% for an extended time.

If you trust ASRock's claims that their new BIOS fixed the CPU degradation issues, their boards are worth considering (but update the BIOS before you install the CPU).

>I'm considering going for 2x32gb RAM but the teamgroup kit isn't available in my region. What brand/model should I look at instead?
The brand doesn't matter too much since they all source memory chips from the same major manufacturers.
Memory modules don't break down that easily unless you make big mistakes in installation or manual overclocking.
The broken ones will usually cause booting issues or other instabilities when you're still within the return period.

This one's fine and assembled/tested by a well-known kit manufacturer.

this means 90% of all future ps5 pro and ps6 games will have FSR 4 on PC since sony will require all major games releasing on their platform to support the technology and there will be no excuse to not have it on PC as well. This could be good for older game support even with sony asking devs to add support for the enhanced PS5 pro and PS6 versions of older games.

Seeing as how 8gb on AMD at it's worse be less usable than 6gb on Nvidia, does that mean that 16gb on AMD has the potential to also be worse than 12gb on Nvidia? I just learned about this and I'm getting really worried that the 9070xt (that was the same price as a 5070ti) might not be what I thought it was.

I think if you're planning to spend around $360 for a 7800X3D you can stretch your budget to pay $470ish for the 9800X3D.
I will add it in the next OP, it's running close to the 2K character limit.

>Remove case, remove monitor
Then some people will ask why the case section is gone, and some builders have no idea which case to pick.
Monitor, you stare at it when you're using the PC. It's an important component.

I want to install one of those cheap quad nvme adapters because why not, but they require bifurcation so it would have to go into the 1st x16 slot and the gpu into the 2nd x16 slot which is only x4 width. That won't really make a massive difference in performance if you're not playing anything excessively demanding, right? Especially with my weak ass rx6600xt?

I kind of stopped paying strong attention to pc hardware for awhile there, how did this happen?
Like there's always been autistic people but why has is gotten so strong after Nvidia totally obliterated them on market share and feature set? Like no ones actually buying them, they're playing catch up, and you don't (as far as I can tell) even necessarily have the the "value" or overclocking bonuses like you used to. Despite all of this you go to any type of forum/subreddit/thread dedicated to pc hardware and it's a radeon suck off joint.
Why did God let this come to be?

>I kind of stopped paying strong attention to pc hardware for awhile there, how did this happen?
NVIDIA has been prioritizing AI their business since the 2010s, and it paid off after Chat GPT changed the tech industry.
They are reducing GeForce chip production to make more profitable data center GPUs.
The non-halo tier GeForce chips are also getting smaller every generation (maximize profit per chip).

But people will still gravitate towards GeForce, AMD's not going to get even 30% of the PC gaming market share for a long time.
AMD's new features take mods to use on many games, and there's just a better perception of GeForce cards.

Winget has this problem that if it ever breaks for some reason you must either fix window integrity, reinstall windows, or reinstall winget and risk getting it installed twice, but for some reason they made it so you can never never never never ever uninstall it (it ships with windows 11). So far it has bricked once and luckily it was solvable with a reinstall, but some users are stuck with a broken winget installation and are forced to reinstall their entire system for it.

Besides that it's pretty good, it gets annoying with some packages that are not entirely unified but that also happens on linux

Intel platform stability has always been decent
Even with LGA1700 the biggest issue was with certain CPUs but in terms of everything else it was fine
Intel has the better IMCs and support for CUDIMMs for what its worth.

If I just wanted something that worked and I didn't care about e-penis, I would probably pick intel still. Plenty of people building home servers still out if intel parts because they proved that even with regular desktop parts you can build something that just runs indefinitely without giving you trouble.

Eventually you keep enough old parts that youll have enough for another PC build

It helps having friends spot PC parts for you at garage sales and stuff like I did
I was able to build a system with
32G DDR3
AMD FX8350 CPU+Stock cooler
Mobo is AsRock B450 G1-970
And i used my old GTX960 4g
And i used an old HDD i had
And i used an old evga 500W PSU

Only thing i had to buy for it was some shitty 40$ case from newegg
Still runs win10 fine and its snappy

Honestly your best bet is just doing one or the other in your black channel since IIRC its the "best" of the two unlike later builds where its usually slots 2+4

Your ram will only run at the speed of the slowest stick you have, so if the 4x8 gig sticks are a slower speed, youll just be handicapping the 32GB sticks

You look for response time matrices like these to see whether the display is capable of running at its advertized Hz without ghosting. 16.67ms for 60hz, 8.33ms for 120hz, 4.167ms for 240hz etc.

I've never patched bios before but thought this would be a good time to try it out since it's time to put together a new build. As long as I don't get a power outage for 10 minutes I think it should be fine, there are so many "improved performance" in the patch notes which is why I plan to do it. But I'm hesitating, otherwise I wouldn't have made these posts.

i want to build a home machine for my AI workloads without breaking my wallet (too much)

im considering dropping $6k without GPUs for a threadripper pro 9965WX based build, and then populating it with ad-hoc GPUs later.

can someone weigh in this path vs. just trying to cram everything in a single giant GPU (rtx 6000 PRO)?

i got quotes for both, its 7.3k for the rtx pro
around 6-7k for a threadripper pro workstation (no gpu)

i currently have a single 4090 and I am looking to efficiently expand my compute and model access.

threadripper pro stands out to me because of its extreme memory bandwidth vs standard ryzen processor AND threadripper platform

ive never felt like i have had an inferior experience. I dont know anyone with a 90 series card regardless. They cost 7 grand now, its an insult.

The inferior experience is being an exploited and abused customer wildly overpaying for a tech company that has been a blight upon pc gaming for well over a decade+ now. The shame i'd feel everytime i turned on my pc, knowing my poor decisions have actively hurt pc gaming, would ruin whatever perceived performance gains you pretend upscaling provides.

I dont use or like memetracing. Its a shit gimmick for cutting corners and upselling cards, the best lighting engine i've seen, for actual gameplay, and not standing still staring down a street, is Helldivers 2, which doesnt use memetracing at all. I dont like input lag so fake frames are not an option for me, my 7900xtx runs great, most games on high to max settings on my 1440p ultrawide, kino gaming experience, none of the guilt either.

Now oink some more for me, paypig.

Where's the lie?

>As soon as AMD catches up to them they release some software gimmick feature that favors their hardware and pay the developers to implement it in their games to artificially gimp the AMD performance.
NVIDIA didn't design Tensor & RT cores to "screw over AMD", they had bigger ambitions.
RT cores were added to NVIDIA GPUs because their professional-grade Quadro video cards needed it.
The GeForce team came up with RTX & DLSS to ensure those cores weren't being wasted when playing games.

Does anyone have any experience with the Aliexpress AMD B650 motherboards? These cost ยฃ60/$80 and I would throw a 7500F into it. As long as the board doesn't knock out other components or burn down my house it's fine. My i5 2500k isn't cutting it any more.

consumer gaming gpus are a low margin market. to make the same margins as they do on the 9800x3d, they would have to sell the 9070xt at $2000 at the minimum, probably a couple hundreds more because of lower yields and having to sell and entire pcb with vram and cooler included.

Assumed form factor requirements. You can of course just get one that's open on all sides and lie it down though, but also the only part that is heavy enough to matter is the GPU and a simple lego man can solve that issue

It's usually the AMD card owners making exaggerated claims or straight-up lying in these threads.
Take your insecurities down a notch.

NVIDIA card owners aren't the ones saying dumb shit like NVIDIA needs to fix MPO.
If things feel shitty wherever you are, you are probably the source of that pile of shit.

Refresh cards usually aren't attractive enough compared to waitingโ„ข and buying a completely new generation card at launch.

>What boost clocks do most 5070s hit by default?
It depends on the game and card model, 5070 FE averages around 2.8GHz @ stock settings.
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-5070-founders-edition/45.html

>Also when I feel like overclocking do I just take the same strategy I had with Turing? Where I don't touch power limits and just strap an aio to it?
The stock cooler should be good enough to give you most of the OC gains, liquid cooling a 5070 sounds like a waste of money.
Use the beta version of MSI Afterburner (to unluck higher RTX 50 VRAM OC) and refer to this OCing guide, old but gold.
