2 of my 4 previous jobs were from linkedin. Of the other 2, 1 was because I was recruited out of the top school in the domain in the middle of a minor bubble and the orher was because my employer got acquired. I have tried all other avenues, from cold emails to references, and that never got anywhere. Even with references I usually get 0 contact.

Found this mofo on Reddit. Some highlights in the comments:

>Youโ€™ve posted this 10 times already across multiple subreddits. Whatโ€™s your end goal with all this?
>I'm going to buck the trend of offering advice like these other comments and make it even worse for you. You're 22 and when you finally do get a job you're looking at 40 years minimum of being a wage slave, alienated from your labor, punished for attempting to create value outside of what the company directs. You will be asked for your opinion, then ordered to go do exactly what you said by management as if it was their idea in the first place, who will then claim your work as their victory, with the management above you getting rotating promotions every 2 years to keep you from developing any long-lasting relationships or power base while they get rewarded just for keeping you from going postal under their "leadership". Even with a job you statistically won't be able to afford a house for 20 more years. You will run the numbers of how your family/friends managed to afford their lifestyle just 10 years ago and it will keep you up at night. You will vacillate between being glad you aren't in an El Salvadorian Auschwitz 2 and wondering why none of your peers seem to think anything is wrong with the state of things and refuse to organize against the oppressive system. If you're lucky, you will live long enough to viscerally experience every statement in this comment.
>I highly recommend that you consider going to a trade school for medical. Either medical assistant or medical office work...
>You should work in Yellowstone the rest of the summer or something similar. Look at this as an opportunity. If you really want to do CS now you might need a masters degree.

Hey /g/, so I have been jobless for almost 2 years, the first one I was trying to make my own biz (and lost and didn't work out in this shit economy), and second one I have been trying to find a job. I am and EE in the field of robotics/drones, my resume is impressive and so is my past project portfolio, have 10+ yoe and even post grad education, and can NOT find a job (Canada), in the past year I had only 3 interviews after 100s of applications, some of the jobs I applied for matches exactly what I do, some I am waaay over qualified and yet, only 3 interviews and got ghosted after not even mentioning why. One of them was in the US as well but even that didn't work out.
what am I suppose to do, seriously?! I'm going suicidal at this point, not just I feel worthless piece of shit that all the efforts I put so far incl my school are for nothing, but I'm burning through my saving and would literally end up homeless.. any advise or anything, maybe job sites other than the popular ones or anything could help, I have been having panic attacks a lot recently which I never had before, can't even go to sleep too, what the fuck am I suppose to do!!

software people of any sort are always the most smug out of touch losers on the planet. hardware people from lowly hell desk repairmen to actual electrical engineers tend to be more down to earth. IDK why, I guess it's because they are actual maintaners/craftsmen/engineers rather than microservice bashing COTS kitbashers. Ohm's Law will never betray you but if you make an entire career of knowing how to do Hello World in the latest meme framework i guess it causes brain damage

I'm going to go full schizo a minute.
It feels like standards for all the good jobs are increasing at an unreasonable rate, not just CS. It's becoming harder to just become middle class. Elites are pulling up the ladders and leaving everyone else at the bottom. Gen Z unemployment is rising, they will either be forced to work something shitty or join the army out of desperation, very convenient considering war is on the horizon.

I'm with >>105818790 -- it was already Kinda Over because of HR roasts' demands and normie obsession with unicorn 10000x COOOODERZ making it so you have to be a literally born-again grognard with 100 years of experience but being no older than 20 just to work call-in luser-facing hell desk.

However, jeets are very willing to lie, and hiring in "tech" has been so broken for so long that there's really no way to check and call out such lies without incredible expense of at least time if not the wages and lost productivity of the hiring process. So they blindly import Durgasofters who say they have those 100 years of experience, either pay them peanuts or have their wages subsidized by the government, and don't care that they aren't productive once hired because the overhead costs have been slashed so hard that number went up in the end.

But at the end of the day it's that hiring was and is so fucked up in anything tech-oriented. Even if they hadn't imported infinity jeets, the job market would still be an absolute shambles because of incompetent recruiters, company and worker "valuation" not being based on anything real, and the "move fast break stuff" mindset of techbros that ensures no one can gain useful experience and products are designed and shipped in nonsense ways.

> or join the army out of desperation,
I did this over 10 years ago and it is without a doubt the best decision I ever made. I have a lot of complaints but at least I make some money and the job is mildly interesting, despite all the jank. Possibly *because* of all the jank.

I'm an EE as well but a recent grad who hasn't been able to find work. I've had a few interviews that have went absolutely nowhere and with every one all those feelings you described have become worse and worse. A bunch of places near me that were generally considered safe bets for recent grads were either direct government jobs or contractors which were not supposed to be affected by budget cuts on paper have had a massive downsizing by giving many older workers larger retirement packages and other incentives to quit all while having hiring freezes. I feel like the rug has been pulled out from underneath me; all the so called "entry level" jobs require at least 2 years of experience in some niche topic that no school in the area teaches. I swear that I've done some interviews with jobs that were specifically set up for an H1B candidate to take since the requirements were so absurd for the pay that was offered and what was actually mentioned in the listing. I get that I'm not supposed to get phased by rejection letters, but there was one that got underneath my skin where the stupid fuck who wrote it clearly did it using ChatGPT and didn't bother proofreading it. It's all so tiresome.

This might be a retarded question but how do you force yourself to work on boring shit. My first and only permanent job was working on boring hospital management software, and I wanted to kill myself. Had to go back to do a masters to give myself some time and got to work on fun stuff but now that I am near to finishing I find myself dreading going back to the waggie life working on boring shit. Money isn't a factor thanks to the UK economy and devs being payed shit.

HR is a made up job to include women in the workforce and this more broadly is a major cause of the general sense of frustration in the working world. If it seems arbitrary it's because so much of it is. Because we "needed" to make up jobs for them, which are necessarily arbitrary. This is why you have "diversity training" and "team-building exercises" and bs hiring practices

>bragging about how the company he works for is replacing low skilled data entry workers years before ChatGPT was a thing
I used to do "medium skilled data entry" work (traversing networks with cisco cli 'cdp neighbor' and recording device info to smartsheet or spreadsheet) and I automated my own damn job with Python. I had something working by the end of week 2 on the job (and I had never touched Python before this job). It was peak comfy especially since covid hit a month in and I essentially 'worked' by running a script that did my job for me and i would intentionally postpone submitting my results and 'hard work' to make them think i was doing the tasks manually like a good boy dumbass

After ~3 years of working just a few hours a week (literally just moving my mouse, running a script, responding to teams messages, submitting 'work') I came clean to my boss, told him it was getting really fucking boring and not challenging enough, gave them a portolio of scripts i wrote to do my job for me with explanation and their response was to almost double my pay and move me to a solution development team

>I automated my own damn job with Python.
one time I received a bad performance review for "pursuing personal hobbies while on watch" for browsing SS64.com and automating the data entry part of my core trade job. at first it was findstr for /l COM abuse stuff and I gradually learned enough powershell to mangle plaintext in the same way and a little faster/better (everything I was working with were plaintext files, literal .TXTs, potentially spat out of teletype machines). I did the same thing you did but almost ate a criminal charge for it, which was only downgraded to a destructively bad performance review

Managers since have been sympathetic (and even sometimes asked me to recreate those scripts) and in interviews it makes for a good story for the usual "what are you most proud of at your job"/"describe a time you had conflict with your manager or coworkers" type shit test questions

but I will still DIE MAD about it and to this day when I have thoughts to automate stuff, even if just slightly improving some bullshit excel sheet used for an interim report, I keep it to myself. and the few times I do lapse into bravery or faith and reveal some horrid set of load-bearing scripts (or, god forbid, excel sheets) I've been using, it's usually just met as a novelty and I'm asked to hand-write a report instead. sometimes literally, with a pen.

Shit was the pay good? Even if it wasn't, sign me up, like just drop a position title I should be searching for. That would be a nice side hustle
>criminal charge
What would the charge have been? If your touching things like payment info (routing/checking numbers, card and cardholder info), your just processing the data with python instead of manually, i dont see this as an issue.
>I'm asked to hand-write a report instead. sometimes literally, with a pen
Dear lord what kind of companies do this? Even if they asked for a hand-written report I'd still probably find a way to automate just for the hell of it (but using the characters of my natural handwriting)

>Damn they had you editing plain text files, and that was the job?
In my trade, we affectionately call eachother "battle secretaries"; we take the message traffic (as in literally the Tom Clancy-esque allcaps nonsense transmissions) and package them in a more digestible form.

On the botes, the preferred way to do it was
>receive the message, probably through Outlook (but potentially over radio teletype)
>save everything as .txt files to a given local share (the botes have servers)
>vet the bulk for applicability/relevance to the unit (i.e. if you don't have aircraft, probably no one cares about wide-distribution air traffic control messages and will yell at you if included(unless a helicopter crashes nearby in which case it becomes your personal fault it did despite your unit not even having a helipad))
>strip header and footer information that no one but the operators care about
>add header/footer information for local bookkeeping
>print, staple, hole-punch, put it in a binder with sticky notes/tabs
>highlight the important stuff
>do said highlighting by hand, because normies' eyes glaze over when the highlighting too straight*
>hand-deliver it to the highest-ranking person willing to even look at you
>get yelled at by everyone above the guy you gave the binder to because you didn't consort with them first

*I was once told that I shouldn't use a ruler for this because it's too regular and thus too hard to notice

>What would the charge have been?
"conduct unbecoming" or "dereliction of duty" or something; it was clearly an empty threat. But he already didn't like me for various reasons. He made a similar threat to me about telling stories college about a teacher who would always end every Combinational Logic lecture with "...And that's important to high-speed cryptography!" because he worked at Lockheed or something before becoming a professor)

empty threats are just that but are still offensive and they still work. I will die free and die mad

Anyway, I wrote a like 15 line powershell script to automate what it could; all that remained was printing, stapling, by-hand-highlighting, and COPING for failure states of the script. I was finding new and exciting edge cases up until my last day using it because NATO formatted messages can get so long (and apparently fuck with character encoding hard enough that even Outlook fails to save them consistently??) but for the most part, it worked and was non-destructive. Out of fear of the script failing, I didn't even have it delete stuff; just add markers for me to know where the message actually starts and ends and still do any deletions by hand.

But this was also a place that, when I brought up that these edits should NOT be done in Outlook itself, to preserve the message as transmitted (and that originals should be kept on our old Win95 teletype box) I got yelled at for that too, but no one noticed when I left them alone anyway. So one could probably see why I'm a little mad(insane) and a little upset(mentally) in addition to seething because I cannot cope in a healthy way

ok that does kind of sound like ass. I'd do what i could if i was in your shoes too

when I was in the military in environments where we had to hand in our phones due to data sensitivity i'd hand in my phone but nobody would bat an eye as i went in with my Panasonic CF29 Toughbook. I'd be playing Diablo 2 or Doom or Quake to everyone it just looks like im working.
Or i'd play with html/javascript and make stupid SVG animations, showed one to one of my battlebuddies "this is you sucking a cock haha" it was a packman looking face opening and closing as a very detailed veiny dick would move outside then inside the mouth as it closed

i never got into automating things then i was new to basically everything

We have a bunch of toughpads and I want so badly to make them into charting machines

no vidya on our machines right now (unless some of the ops nerds get their wishes granted and we can start getting paid to play CMANO) but when I was still on the botes, everyone would bring in their own gaymer laptop anyway. Or later on, switches and steam decks. most of one of the deployments i got a medal for was spent practicing Mario Kart to try to defeat the embarked US Coast Guard people (they were in fact too powerful and only didn't outright top the bracket because they had actual work to do, instead merely dominating the top 8)

being in the military sucks. it's a very comfy do-nothing job except for the times you have to actually do your job, where everything falls apart instantly and you have to re-enact every Kafka novel at once and any attempt to fix it introduces you to yet another circle of Hell

I badly want a getac tablet with the dual hot-swappable batteries

back to military
some computers had usb and disc drive file transfer disabled but i could get vidya on them by modifying group policy on the machine (it wasnt enforced by a domain controller) and changing settings in BIOS

You could always boot into a different OS with a formatted dvd though. The number of officers that would accidentally lock the admin account by typing the wrong password in 3 times in a row was too damn high, Hiren's Boot CD was a blessing

>inb4 just give them a user account
They would be adamant about wanting to use the admin account for some ungodly reason and creating backup admin accounts on 30+ computers, i'd rather just look like a wizard being a script kiddie with a boot cd

that's basic training shit; once you get a couple hooks things get a lot jankier.
The Mario Kart Medal was just because we were lucky enough to have a CO that said "We're on a named operation, in consort with other countries; we already did Work-Ups, so I'm not going to waste your time with exercises now that we're here for the thing we spent months exercising for." It just so happened that not much happened at the time and the world was quite calm. There was still a lot of stupid stuff that could have been circumvented with better design, but meh.

>the number of officers that would accidentally lock the admin account by typing the wrong password in 3 times in a row was too damn high
we have bitlocker for that now, and for ALL accounts! just as much work, but the few times a year I have an active admin account, I can just look in AD for the recovery key. There's an intranet "public" solution too, but it works maybe half the time so I don't even bother recommending it to LUSERS (at least for normal users I can say "try it once then get back to me" tho)

There's just so much stuff that makes me feel like I'm stuck in kindergarten, yet have to do babysitting myself. I'd like to see what command is like. Or even what people at the ministerial level are doing. IT shit is just the tip of the iceberg, that's not even my core job, it's just what I get the most hours for these days. What the hell is going on up there to make down here seem so pitiful and useless?

how do unemployed retards STILL don't understand that things will change in the US and elsewhere after the Fed lowers interest rates and the tech industry finds yet another fad to push for?

also, you guys have great technical skills AND knowledge of systems, their weaknesses and solutions. you could do ANYTHING that required solving hard, tedious problems, even social problems (networks, communications and stuff)

I'll leave a few videos ITT to help you understand and motivate you to do things. first one is this:

I'm looking for a course I did that showed how math and networks are applied EVERYWHERE to solve problems and make money... sadly, I don't remember the name of the course, but I'll post it as soon as I find it.

While yes they'll accept most people, you still need the education/training and at that point you may as well look into an actual trade (though the education will take a bit longer).
Personally, I'm unemployable because I don't have a drivers license, costs more than I can afford right now and I'd have to spend a year with a useless learners even if I did, every trade bar none requires them and some require manual/truck licenses too.
The days of "walk up and just get a job in a desperately in-need industry" are over. If you haven't thoroughly planned to join the industry you aren't joining it unless you know someone.

There's nothing at all stating years of experience or even the typical "familiarity/strong/confident/experience in X", shit it doesn't even ask for any education, it only asked for basic bitch shit like
>attention to detail
>work well in a team
>excellent communication skills
with the exception of
>Skilled in JIRA
Then the description of the job itself and your responsibilities include a bunch of managerial shit alongside QA.

I think they're legitimately looking for an entry level dude who has it all. It's not an inexperienced company either.

They do this either because they legally have to put public job postings for internal hires or so they have an excuse to hire jeets, because no domestic candidates were fit.
>We couldn't find a perfect unicorn candidate here in the US with all the skills that would work for a low wage but Ranjesh Praatjer who has a PhD in electrical AI quantum computing from University of Johdpur and 20 years of tech work experience despite being 24 years old is going to work for us for half the offered wage, get him a visa and hire him now

This is me right now and I kinda try and look at it like I did when I uased to do weights. Just something I have to do for cash/health, sure sometimes I slack off but it comes down to routine/discipline. Drugs also help.

I am thinking of doing the same thing and doing a masters in hopes of finding more interesting work. How did that go? Are you getting more job offers?

McSloppas jobs are always "competitive" whenever the job market shits the bed, they love hiring desperate but credentialed people.
The real rock bottom these days is Amazon delivery, you can write "I hate niggers and will rape every customer" in your app and they'll still beg you to come in person for an interview.

no they don't, they complain constantly about "overqualified" workers because they know the turnover will get even higher, and training budgets/losses from incompetence are already huge in min wage mcjobs

I lived through my dad losing his job to the Chinese in the early 2000's. The best we've got since then is Trump an entire 25 years since then trying to do some shock therapy thing to US manufacturing by tariffing the shit out of everything. Based on that, your best bet is some president in 2050 doing the same shit with tech and finding that no one in America wants to do 996 with overnight prod support for minimum wage.

this is something I don't understand about unemployed retards: whenever they start a thread or make a post crying about being unemployed, they almost NEVER give more details about their education, skills or experience.
I know that unemployment is hard in a psychological sense, but, ffs, these retards couldn't be more helpful so we can give them pointers, suggest concrete measures, maybe suggest talking to someone or whatever. we can't be of help when people don't help us help them.
