I made a fast api python thing where the endpoints map to a variety of Linux commands. It runs on some kind of smart fiber modem thing for this weird city wide vlan thing. Thing mostly interfaced with qemu and was for ISPs to use it as a hypervisor for their own software or something.

Engineering in IT varies between 180-350k based upon company and job location. If you are 2x your current income then that normally only comes out to only 80k which is more mid level specialized IT careers. Please consider job searching to see what he market is really demanding for each position and the pays associated with it.
