They're destroying the Internet in real time. There won't be many web development jobs left.
This isn't about kids, and it isn't about safety. Every country seems to be passing the same law, all at once. And with a near 100% majority in their congress. This is clearly coordinated.

The fines for non-compliance are astronomical, like $20 million dollars, with no exceptions for small websites.

Punishment for non-compliance includes jailing the owners of websites. The age verification APIs are not free. It makes running a website significantly more expensive than the cost of a VPS. "Social Media" is defined so broadly that any forum or even a comment section is "social media" and requires age verification. "Adult Content" is defined so broadly it includes thoughts and opinions that have nothing to do with sexuality. Talking about world politics is "adult content". Talking about economic conditions is "adult content".

No one will be able to operate a website anymore unless they have a legal team, criminal defense indemnity for the owners, AI bots doing overzealous moderation, and millions of dollars for all of the compliance tools they need to run, not to mention the insurance they would need to carry to cover the inevitable data breach when the verification provider leaks everyone's faces and driver's licenses.

This will end all independent websites and online communities.

This will end most hosting companies.

Only fortune 500's will have websites.

This will reduce web developer jobs to only a few mega corps.

People are just learning now that the only true right is through strength. Morality, economics, democracy, all of these are built on the backs of strength.

When the strongest man says 'jump', you don't argue, you ask 'how high'. Or you don't be around when he says 'jump'. Which is the smarter of the two options. You get on the Dark Net right now and start making the internet of your dreams and stop trying to argue with the richest child fuckers on planet Earth about what is 'moral'. They don't care. They will gladly sink every dollar you have ever made down the toilet for just a taste of more control.

If you think American companies won't enforce British law, you're in for a rude awakening.

Meanwhile Britcucks are literally trying to tell teh country that fought a long and bloody civil war to get away from them to start following their King again.

The next candidate who runs on this issue will absorb the entirety of the MAGA movement. You have no idea how unpopular this is with both the left and the right. Trump, Orange God that could do no wrong, is now down with 81% of his voter base just over the Epstein files alone.

I've never seen such a drastic and coordinated push for censorship and surveillance happen so quickly before. It's hard not to be unsettled. What do you guys think about a 'local only chat' website to combat all the new censorship? I'm thinking it would work something like this:
>someone posts a thread with a link to some news article
>you can go into that thread and post comments and view the comments that are made while you're in the thread

Why should I, as an American citizen, have to follow rules made because the UK citizenry are a bunch of cucks? I voted for a pro-protectionist nationalist to avoid this kind of kneeling to the British Crown and its Banks. So why are these companies suddenly turning around and kneeling to the UK?

That's great that this has mostly spurred the US into action at generation enough of a reactionary jaunt to prevent it from ever passing, doesn't change the fact that the 'private companies can do what they want' are now acting as the de-facto government agents of the bald-faced fascists in the UK Government.

There are luckily still alternatives.

You can host your website in Russia and remain largely anonymous in your western country if you make use of anonymized payments. For example you buy BTC, use a mixer + bridge into monero, convert back into a crypto like btc to pay. You can probably also do this for a list of African countries but Russia seems to be the best right now.

Is it a pain in the ass? Yes.

Maidposters were the only people on /g/ both willing and able to create things like new web protocols, cryptography libraries from scratch, new compressors, etc and willing to release those things into the Public Domain. This angered some jannies, as 4Chan is just a soft SIGINT honeypot for various three letter agencies in the US. They don't want you using maid technology. They want you using Signal or some other obvious honeypot they control. Kurumi MaidCard was probably the final nail in the coffin for maidposting. Jannies conflated it with /cumg/ utils, despite the fact that maidposters only ever used it to share uncompiled code and number theory research and used that as a justification for a blanket ban. There was also some retard who kept screeching about embedding and steganography, despite the fact that data was drawn rather than embedded, and no effort was made to conceal the data steganographically.

>tl;dr: Some jannies are zoomers who don't understand that maids have been posting here since before their (probably single) moms handed them an iPhone for the first time and let them zoom around on the internet. Other jannies are feds who don't like alt-tech.

As much as I'm blackpilled by it myself, I still think we'll manage, somehow.

First, Earth thankfully doesn't have any kind of united gov't, even though a lot of existing and influential ones are, in fact, formed a malignant conspiracy. There would be some gray zones for a while. Some shithole Third World jurisdictions, who are poor enough to not employ any control over their segments of the internet. For example I recall reading how some people from Iran used niche Russian micro-blogging platform in the late 2010s 'cause it was outside of their gulag, but still free to access - while russian KGB wouldn't give a fuck to read Persian runes and it was free enough, while it lasted.

Second, the darknet is still here, and it will be here for a while. It's kind of "back to web 1.0", it surely glows and it sucks ass, but it will exist for some more time and it will evolve. We, the people of the formerly free world now have some things to learn from Chinese, Iranians and Russians who got totalitarian internet much earlier than we did, and developed some tricks and tools to circumvent it. I also expect the black market of verified IDs to bloom - you know, ones verified with the biometrics of some grandma or a bum.
Rember gov'ts are weak IRL - and that's the reason they lash out at anyone on the internet, to uphold an illusion of control at least over the terminally online crowd. They can't manage shit in the meatspace - be it sprawling slums, rampant drug addiction or street crime.

Third - a little bit of copium. We grew complacent with new shiny corpo platforms. Merely 15 years ago I would shrivel away in disgust from any website which would like to know my phone number. Now it's a norm. As well as using shitbucket payment processors and install spyware on your phone. At the same time, there aren't any places left to go, and aren't much things to see. Corpo platforms feed you with an unending stream of targeted slop and ads, and you gain nothing by participating in it, except venting off your frustrations as you see things you hate in your feed. It had to end. It's not a bad thing it finally will.

Finally, isn't it like it always have been? We had forums for niche async talking, MSN for normie communication and IRC for our creepy internet friends, then - we had Facebook, Skype and Jabber, then - imageboards, Viber and Discord. We always switched places we hanged around, as soon as the old ones became shitty. It will continue.

Buckle up frens, ride isn't finished yet. Surely, it sucks. We fucked over the crypto and it never bloomed into the truly free payment instrument - now it's entangled with restrictions. Dark web is underdeveloped and isn't user friendly, but, as I said, it will evolve. There's no alternate physical medium for our new free internet, but it will probably emerge - either wireless, legacy land phone lines or maybe something even more exotic. Powerline anyone?

It's like when retards say "start killing games" in response to the "stop killing games" campaign AS IF what the campaign is railing against is going to do what you want it to, and as if the success of it is even going to help the people or companies you are going against. Yep. People just don't realize the real implications of this. People are also already accepting it. In fact I'm not sure this can be stopped without something truly drastic, which is a shame. The internet is done and there will no longer be any freedom on it, it will be fully controlled. This is really a nightmare for anyone that ever cared at all for internet freedom in any capacity, come true. There will no longer be free speach either and you will be held to account for anything.

Also, I've said it even before this, they are going to ban things like anti-semetism soon, by way of exactly this. Campuses were only the start, so yeah, they are initiating the greatest control aparatus ever, have fun with that.

My thoughts exactly. There's going to be an "anti-semitic" terror attack and then they will use the new ID control aparatus to enforce the coming intensified banning of anti-semetism, and then that can be used to declare more and more things an enemy of the state. Not to get too far out of the realm of technology, but that's going to be the application.

I expect apple and microsoft to soon make ID's a requirement to use their operating systems as well. I'm really not surprised it's happenning honestly. I've been expecting the end in one way or another for about 5 years.

they are essentially trying to destroy the whole internet by reducing the usefulness of it so they can "justify" the infrastructure cut off

I have also noticed this. If you post something to Public Domain, you will immediately have a number of retards/bots in your thread complaining about "cuck license" and demanding you use AGPLv4 or something totally unworkable like that, and swearing you will be "exploited" if you did not do this, ignoring that the goal of a Public Domain release is that anyone be able to do anything with the released materials. It is public and all wrapping it in a license more complicated than that does is decrease the number of people who will use or consider using it.

People are so addicted to social media like github now that they don't understand how terrible the internet has become since about the end of 2019. Nearly impossible to release software anymore without doxing yourself. Can't even do it through your own server and email anymore because everything that isn't one of the big providers is on the naughty list. Both of my websites are under constant ddos attack now because I refuse to join the cloudflare botnet. Used to be able to handle it with a few VPSs I could pay for anonymously. But now they're cracking down on the ability to do that and hold a domain name anonymously. Never mind being able to promote anything where it matters even if you manage to operate a domain+server+organization through an anonymous shell company.

I've pretty much been fully isolated at this point. Even if I try to throw a lot of effort, time and money behind releasing something there is no way to get it in front of anyone's eyes. If you post it here and upload it to something like mega the thread first gets spammed to death then purged.

All the while you're gaslit and told it was always this way. Board is so horrible now I'd be surprised if I found out more than 5 actual users are here. The rest are mods, bots and the 5-6 faggots lurking in the same discord server that only come here to post their daily attention whore threads.

Except even the strongest man can't handle 1000 people jumping him at once.
What scares the government the most is people actually rallying under one banner and rebelling.
The internet has ironically made it easier for governments worldwide to stop people from grouping up. The discourse has moved into the digital world, where it's easy to bombard people with irrelevant issues and distract them from important things, and where it's much easier to censor any important things that slip through the cracks. Some people have been so overwhelmed they started campaigning for solving problems in countries where these problems never existed in the first place (e.g. black slavery). It's very difficult to spur people into taking action in the real world amidst all this noise.
One person out for blood in the real world is much scarier to any politician than 100 fags screeching on twitter or signing online petitions. I'm not saying the latter activities are completely worthless, but this shift of discussing everything digitally has undoubtedly weakened the citizen's ability to oppose their government's decisions.
