Sorry shill, but I'm still gonna enjoy my Anandas. :^)
Finally a new thread. It was too long since the previous one ended. At this point, I only come to /g/ for /hpg/.
I don't need any advice or anything, my setup is pretty much complete, I just like discussing these things with online people lol
Most forums suck dick and reddit's r/headphones is full of complete retards that spend their day sucking Sennheiser's dick for their shitty ass HD600 that everyone there thinks is so good when it is in fact garbage (and they get redditor mad when you tell them)
>>106170083 (OP)I've reached endgame about a year ago but the urge is still there
already happy with my current headphone and mainly still looking for a source with specific requirements
>low power (even cheap dongles are too powerful, probably something on the level of eu apple dongle or lower)
>a nice knob
there's the option of using peace eq + apo with a -30db pregain but i want to avoid windows update breaking the setup
>>106172408>Most forums suck dick and reddit's r/headphones is full of complete retards that spend their day sucking Sennheiser's dick for their shitty ass HD600 that everyone there thinks is so good when it is in fact garbage (and they get redditor mad when you tell them)pretty much every /hpg/ here lately gets filled with them by the 2nd or 3rd day and becomes too cancerous to even bother with. I don't mind other people have different opinions, but babies first headphone people are just too obnoxious to interact with. Same applies with beyersremose discussion unfortunately
>>106172652whats your endgame?
>>106172170You don't need to look further on anything made in china, especially owned and made by chinese. Even things that seem promising by the bigger chink brands are so unbelievably awful. Topping eha5 was a good example of that, great thread on head-fi about it and it's hilarous. Anyways all chink headphones are horribly made and it's not about low or high end, susvara's have qc problems and everything thats budget from china is even worse, even new fags have heard about how horrible companies like chinkfiman and fiio are. There is no reason to assume anything else is different with that trash iem company
I think Hifiman despite de QC issues has some very good headphones. There really isn't much competition if you want planars, and I barely ever recommend dynamics unless the person is on a really really tight budget, so... On the higher range (price) there's Audeze but I think they're overpriced af because Hifiman exists.
I pretty much recommend the 400SE to everyone who's starting out in audio and has 100 bucks to spend, nothing else I'd rec really.

Though I will say, it's also kinda dumb to recommend planars to headphone newniggas, for this exact reason.
>>106174122>get the hifiman he-r9 my dude https://store.hifiman.com/index.php/he-r9-refurbished.htmlive heard that the hifiman have poor build quality and dont last very long

>>106174185Nah, I've got Dan Clark planars that have already lasted longer.
>>106174262Yeah well funny that you still have Focals in your little OP shill recommendation list, considering they have just as much of a bad reputation for QC, and they're not even planars. It's quite an impressive feat to accomplish that with dynamic drivers.
Just admit you have an agenda lol
>>106174366Lmao I didn't make the OP
Never owned Focals and I wouldn't particularly recommend them unless on a significant sale.

Headphones have been solved for decades now ;
Reminder that if your headphones have holes in them (โopen backโ), they are not headphones, they are ear speakers. Headphones are for private listening and do not have holes on the outside.

They have a known problem where one of the drivers dies, probably due to poor soldering jobs and could be fixed if thats something you care to do. >>106183348don't, if you're going to get something with terrible treble get the dt990 pro. the soundstage won't be as wide but they also won't break in two years.

i've got a pair of r70x around and they are fine. The sound is fine, it's basically just a hd 600 line with some soundstage instead of having absolutely none. I doubt anyone is going to find them too harsh at anything, pretty good over all. We donโt really have a speaker thread but I figure Iโd ask here as I imagine thereโs a bit of hobby overlap
I got these Bose 301 series IIIโs for $100 and they work fine and after some cleanup (there were paint flecks on the mesh I had to pick out with tweezers) they look nice
Iโm gonna set these up downstairs a bit further apart, I got these because I think they look cool and the weird directional thing supposedly works well with smaller rooms
Hereโs the thing, I donโt have any way to power them yet.
Do you think I should get a dedicated amp and receiver or would I be better off just getting a decent receiver that can power these for a simple two speaker stereo setup?
Before this I had powered speakers plugged into my cd player and cassette deck
>>106183882I do have both meshes, I just had them off to clean inside of here and get the rest of the paint flecks
Iโm gonna try them in here though to play with that weird directional speaker thing, people say these do better close to walls and in small rooms which means they might be the worst choice for my living room, they might end up in here forever

How do I get a pair of these? Sennheiser doesn't have any left. Can't attach pads without it, need to buy (already have) Dekoni pads which come with their own ring, but I already bought the original pads for $120 AUD and I would prefer to use them. Pls don't make me ask reddit.
>>106177465I have the SR7000 which are better, but I still like the HD650 and would prefer all headphones to sound similar to them.
It's so crazy how cancer bad the headphone industry is, theres a few companies that even try to make decent things and the rest are filled with bad actors and dishonesty and refusing to warranty products. On any given day I can find a solid stereo stack from 70-90s for sub $100 perfectly working all made in japan. In fucking headphone audio it's just chink trash or schiit's garbage till $500+ which is so epic. I'm fine with my current gear, hd 800s, but it's still quite depressing seeing the state of things

i got some used headphones that i only just noticed after using for like an hour have a high pitched buzzing sound in the right speaker that plays whenever it's at low volume
goes away completely when there's no audio source and it's hard or impossible to hear when audio is loud
is chatgpt right in telling me it's a defective amp/dac board?
>>106202602Headphones can't produce any sound by themselves, it's the amp. If you don't have a standalone DAC with only RCA/XLR outputs then what you have is a DAC+amp combo. When nothing is playing the amp turns off. You can verify by playing a silence track in your player or a quiet 10Hz tone if your DAC is a bloody bastard and ignores silence.
>>106203076i just did 10hz at varying levels of volume and then at 0%, it produced the buzzing sound the whole time but was difficult to hear the louder it got

I accidentally bent the top headband piece(don't know what they're called) on my ATH-M50x and now it won't fit on my head anymore. Basically sat on them by mistake and bent something. Feels like some thin metal or plastic piece within the foam is bent or broken(?) with no way to bend it back. How easy are they to fix/replace? My whole cans need a makeover anyways. These bad boys still sound good.
>>106203644>>106203691now that i have no headphones, what would you recommend as a replacement?

>>106170477I'm with the X, but where is the Audio Technica M50x? ATH-M50X.
two separate questions
are the beyerdynamic 900 pro x worth it over my 15 year old sennheiser hd 598s? i love them and they are not in dire need of replacement (easy to clean and maintain, and replacement earpads aren't bad at all) but i'd like to try a different pair sometime and have something just in case they do die someday - i also like that the 900 pro x have replaceable parts for continued upkeep
second question, i have moondrop chu ii and kbear ks2s and they're fine, i just hate having to use a dac dongle with them on phone or tablet
the cheap apple plastic has started to tear and fray after a month and i don't really want to get another. are usb c 2 pin connectors fine or not worth the effort? if they are fine, i'm open to suggestions (mic optional) otherwise a beefier dac dongle will do
What's an upgrade to the 598 but about the same price and as durable? I've been using it for almost 2 decades now and I want to try something new

>>106204859Same. I'm thinking of just getting the HD600

I agree, it's sad that there are no wired consumer headphones anymore, studio treble rape fixed with equaization is the only option at the moment.
-akg k361/k371 could've been great but falls apart in 6 months of use.
-mdr m1 would've been perfect but replacement earpads don't exist and chinkshit third party ones completely fuck up the sound signature so you're looking at a 250$ headphones you have to replace every 2 years.
-beyerdynamic dt 700 pro x woud've been decent but it has all sorts of build quality issues and is a downgrade compared to dt 770 pro in almost every other aspect plus it costs more than the 770 pro
-sennheiser hd620s is super duper expensive + has seal/fit issues for 99% of the population it seems and isn't particulary good at anything

i'm under the impression that the bass is lacking which sucks for me because I listen to trashy music like nu metal and shit. any other suggestions for budgets?
What're the go-tos for noice Trance/Sub Bass-heavy stuff? I have Sennheiser HD 650 and Gradio SR 125x, and they're fantastic for instrumental music like Fusion Jazz, but a bit lacking for stuff like Pendulum. I tried the Meze 99 Neo, but they didn't fit my head and didn't sound great to me. Good, but not great, and not really as "fun" as I'd want in a pair of basshead phones. I've got a set of Sony WH1000XM5s, but their sound is a bit too unrefined and I'd want to see what proper headphones with a focus on low-end would sounds like.
I'd love to get some Sony MDR-Z1R, but alas, my price-range is 400EURish (i'm a europoor). Saw some retards on Reddit say the HD 490 Pros are good for bass, but surely it'd have to be a closed-back pair I'm looking for?

Something weird happened with my headphones (beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro).
I had them plugged in my tablet and was listening to music, everything working fine. I went out for a bit and when I returned the tablet wasn't detecting the headphones anymore. Like they stayed plugged in the entire time, nothing changed but suddenly they weren't showing as connected.
So I tried plugging them into my computer and the computer detects them but the sound is quieter than before and sort of muffled and not entirely clear.
It's like they became randomly broken when they were working fine 30 minutes prior. The cable doesn't seem to be damaged from what I can see.

>>106223083Nothing that really shits on it, but the AKG k361/k371 was considered the previous default rec. However those also suffer from quality/build issues, particularly at the hinges.
Alternatively, the new DT 700 pro X looks clean, I'll probably end up impulse buying them myself sometime soon.
>>106223113I had the AKG K371 for about a week and I wanted to return them and never, ever see them again.
I had in the past (funnily enough, before the K371) the DT770 Pro and they were my favorite back then, but not with the default earpads. I'm not sure what changed about the DT 700 pro X.
>>106223113>don't buy k371 because bad build quality>buy dt 700 pro x instead...you are clueless about the chinkshit heaband problems the 700 pro x has right?
>>106219790What? Since when? I only paid 800 for mine on amazon
>>106218338I'm pretty sure HD 490 Pros have beaten them
is the fosi audio k5 pro dac/amp worth buying? i just need something give out a bit more juice than my motherboard and it needs to have a mic input, since I have a v-moda style boom mic for my akg k712 pro. thanks bros.
>>106224315Stop recommending that chink trash, Chang. The frequency response is a mess.
>>106223083Just get headphones with a different connector than the regular 3.5mm jack, those break easily. Audeze's mini XLR or DCA's locking connectors are far more durable.
>>106224495It's not terrible, at least. The mic in is actually pretty good but the headphone out is much noisier than most decent DACs. Not a lot of DACs with a mic jack though so for that alone it's not terrible.
>>106223409>made in ChinaSo the product information is wrong? Thanks for the heads up. Do you have a source for them being made in China? Iโm not German but Iโll try to pass it on to the proper authorities. There are laws regulating โmade in Xโ labels.

>>106170083 (OP)TL;DR: Audeze Maxwell, should I go for it?
I was first looking at either the FiiO FT5 or FT7 but Gemini talked me out of it (recommending the Audeze Maxwell above all else for my purposes). I don't have any consoles btw, so IDK what version I should get, also don't need a mic, I have an AT2020 at my desk.
>LocationGermany
>Budget500โฌ, but if there's something amazing just beyond I would go the extra mile.
>Intended useHome, Uni, Office and everything in between / on the go: Walking, Cycling, Gym, Work, etc.
>Kind (open or closed, over-ear or on-ear)Wanted open back planars, must be over ear, but it shouldn't be a nuisance (in terms of noise pollution towards people around me, which is why the LLM pivoted me to the Maxwells).
>Preferred tonal balance (or genres you like)I like "fast" music (EDM, Techno, Rock, etc) here's some artists I listen to:
Kavinsky, Pacifica, Dutch Melrose, Rammstein, Kenya Grace, Linkin Park, Metric, Jfarrari, Imagine Dragons, WesGhost, Siames, etc.
>Past headphones and your thoughts on themNo real headphones, only gaymer shit (ironic ikr) or iems. The most expensive stuff I've ever owned are my current Nothing Ear (3) but wearing those for more than an hour gives my an burning sensation in my ear canals (always happens with in ears, docs can't find shit, hurr durr "psychosomatic").
>Source(s) (PC, interface, headphone amp, phone, ...)Linux PC with some audio interface I want to get later (for now it's a Focusrite Scarlet Gen4 Solo), Phone (S25 Ultra with some dongle I guess or Bluetooth if it has stopped being gay), work laptop with the same dongle I would use with the phone or also bluetooth.
>Other requirementsAesthetically they shouldn't look like a deformed sextoy or alien peanus (Dan Clark Audio, etc), I really like industrial design (the FT5's design is literally perfect).
I also don't want to pay what's left of a monthly salary on some shitass dynamic driverlet headphones.
>>106224965Sorry but I like hearing subbass.
>>106225017Nigger why would you get wireless if you don't need it?
>it shouldn't be a nuisance (in terms of noise pollution towards people around me)Then don't get open backs. Last I checked FT7 had issues with dying drivers. FT5 is fine but open backs WILL leak sound.
>Aesthetically they shouldn't look like a deformed sextoy or alien peanus (Dan Clark Audio, etc)Already crossing off the best pair of cans in that price range because muh aesthetics is pretty retarded but then again those need an powerful amplifier anyway. Try LCD-S20, similar drivers to the Maxwell and would last longer since Maxwells are notorious for QC issues. Just don't press hard onto the cups while they're on your head. I've already seen a bunch of retards ruin their closed back planars that way. Or you could get a used LCD-2 Closed Back.
>it takes r2r and tubes to give HD600 any kind of soul
Our response, sennsissies? The irony of chartfagging and wasting money on chartfaggotry 'phones only to crave for soul in the end. It's almost as if you could've saved money and bought oldschool tuned-by-ear headphones instead.
>>106224880The frequency response is soul. Sorry you're unwilling to get a pair for $53 because of your Sennheiser brand loyalty that somehow requires spamming charts on a mongolian picture show consortium.
>>106225218>Nigger why would you get wireless if you don't need it? I don't care about the wireless, I just want something that fits my needs. Can't open 4chins without corporate tearing me a second one so I asked gemini during my empty shift and that's what it recommended to me.
>FT5 is fine but open backs WILL leak sound. That's the main issue here.
>Already crossing off the best pair of cans in that price range because muh aesthetics is pretty retarded but then again those need an powerful amplifier anywayI'm ugly as it already stands. I don't need to pay for additional people-disturbers on top.
>Try LCD-S20, similar drivers to the Maxwell and would last longer since Maxwells are notorious for QC issues. Just don't press hard onto the cups while they're on your head.Got it, thanks.
>I've already seen a bunch of retards ruin their closed back planars that way.Man
>Or you could get a used LCD-2 Closed Back.I live in Germany good sir, people here unironically want more than they paid for something when selling. Hifi is deep in boomer territory as well, they will want me to hand over my ieams for nothing in return if I dare to ask a fair price.
I'll still take a look tho.
>>106225273>r2r and tubesHoly distortion. Just get Abyss Diana if you've already fallen for the tube snake oil.
>>106225312Nigger I don't even like Sennheiser.
>The frequency response is soulNevermind, I kneel, great bait. You got 2 (you)s out of me. Carry on
>>106224880As an idiot how can I tell a good curve from a bad curve? Like I get that the ideal is a flat line, and that there always will be a drop at high freqs. But beyond that how can I tell the difference between a deviation that is acceptable vs crap
K11 R2R is currently deep discounted
>>106225362TA-66 is only $200 on amazon used, it's also cheaper than your overpriced chart-backed headphones
>>106225273All it takes is EQ bro. High output impedance of a tube amp increases the bass and distortion of tubes/r2r increases the treble. Look at the graph of hd600 - it's missing bass and treble. But if your head is small enough to wear them comfortably might as well just kill yourself.
>>106225415Wait, Sennheiser owners are manlets?
>>106225330>I live in Germany good sirMy condolences. But there usually is a fair bit of used LCDs on the used market since some people can't stand the weight. Though I live in yurop as well and I've seen some people ask almost full price for ten year old cans so I understand. Audeze also does a sale on their refurbished items but that's usually near the end of the year.
>>106225364Midrange should always comply with the target as closely as possible. Upper midrange especially. Otherwise it'll sound off. As long as the treble or the bass don't have a 10+ dB deficiency then it's fine since those depend on each person's taste and HRTF. But ideally bass should be flat at the very least and there should be no big peaks over 10k.
>>106225397Why would I spend 200 bucks on snake oil when I can add that to the headphone budget and just get something that sounds good without distorting out the ass? See
>>106225415. Just use EQ, you can't be too retarded for simple software, surely.
>>106225502>muh charts and EQNo.
Give me one reason to buy Sennheiser over a used $60 Fostex T50RP on ebay.
>>106225017>on the go: Walking, Cycling, Gym, Work, etc.just get iems anon, or split the budget and get both.
>>106215752>DCA Aeon RT/Xhttps://drop.com/buy/drop-dan-clark-audio-aeon-closed-x-headphones
Is this the one you are talking about and will I need any other equipment
>>106225961Yeah, that's the one. You can either buy that one or the version DCA sells directly: https://danclarkaudio.com/aeon-rt-new-1.html
It doesn't matter all that much, the only difference is X uses perforated ear pads. These are decently hard to drive so you might want to get a DAC/Amp with these.
Topping makes well measuring ones. FiiO makes decent stuff too. Any desktop DAC/Amp from either of these would probably suffice. You could also get something from Schiit but their customer support is horrendous.
>>106226059>perforated ear padsI'll get the X then given I keep mine on for several hours at a time and it's getting way hotter during summer now.
>hard to driveWell that's gay.
>DAC/AmpHow finnicky is this to setup and how much power is this gonna eat if I directly link it to my pc instead of the mains? Alternatively is there any other good option that's just plug and play?
>>106226118>How finnicky is this to setup and how much power is this gonna eat if I directly link it to my pc instead of the mainsYou just connect it to your PC via USB and connect the headphones to it. That's it. More comfortable than using built in audio since you can adjust volume with a knob instead of keyboard shortcuts or other gay shit like that. And most amps use a few watts at most, USB only ones use even less. So basically nothing. It's speaker amps that drain a fuckton of electricity.
>Alternatively is there any other good option that's just plug and play? It's basically plug and play, you just plug it into the amp instead of the onboard audio. There's no setup needed beyond connecting the amp via USB and plugging the headphones in. If you want even less setup there are also dongles that achieve the same thing but desktop amps are more durable so there's no reason not to get that. That, and solid state amps don't usually break so it'll last you longer than the headphones and the PC in all likelihood.
>>106224880thanks. could you clarify a bit what you mean by noisier? I'm not too knowledgeable on this. I'm guessing it would at least be better than my motherboard? With this I wouldn't say I can hear anything that I'm not supposed to hear, as in, there's not static or "noise". It's a pretty cheap low-end B450.
>>106225273>tube amp in bedholy comfy
>>106224952the final assembly is done in germany, but the individual spare parts are most likely coming from china, in fact you can even buy the headband + drivers + bunch of other spare parts and make one yourself in your own country
but that's not the point, by chinkshit i just mean it's chinkshit tier quality.
>There are laws regulating โmade in Xโ labels.and every manufacturer is doing loopholes around them, there's no product where 100% of it is made in germany.
>>106226451The noise floor is higher than a lot of DACs. It's not bad enough to be noticeable. This is usually only a problem when you're running IEMs or something with a similarly high sensitivity. Usually sounds like hiss. For headphones it would be fine and certainly a lot better than the onboard audio. If you're not hearing anything like that from your onboard audio now you won't with this either. I said it's not terrible since there are other options that have a low enough noise floor to use with pretty much any audio device but those usually don't have a mic in. Again, if you're not using IEMs with it you'll be fine.
>>106226540Thanks again. I'm sure it'll work fine enough then. I wasn't expecting anything amazing for 32โฌ (aliexpress coupon) anyway, I just thought it's a better deal than getting a creative sbx G6 for ~100โฌ.
>>106226185Sounds good. Any recommended amps/DACs?
>>106226744SMSL DL100, Topping DX3 Pro+, Fiio K7. I use a K7 myself and have no complaints.

>>106227199>tube amp for planarsYou're retarded.
>Fiio K11 R2RWorse than the regular version. R2R is an inferior, distorting chip type.
>xDuoo TA-66Why? 68 SINAD is laughable. K7 is 100 SINAD and the Topping is even a little over 100. And 70 is the bare minimum for no audio degradation.
>>106227558rca 6as7g*
>>106227581not that guy, but i've had decent results with planars on tube amps running a 6080 compared to a 6as7, so it probably has something to do with voltage handling of the tube? dunno, im too stupid and impatient to learn about all the number shit, i just go by ear.
i mean, my boomer ears gets more varied results rolling power tubes than driver tubes, so ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏ
>>106227699Tube amps are for high impedance headphones. Most planars are low impedance. Tube amps will struggle with powering Aeons especially since they're low impedance and low sensitivity. That, and planars have a flat impedance curve meaning unlike dynamic drivers, a planar magnetic headphone will not sound much different when driven from a tube amp. Meaning you're just getting the same sound signature as a solid state amp and the headphones will be underpowered to boot. Tubes are fine for high impedance dd headphones.
>Just EQ it bro
>no you're not allowed to EQ your $53 headphones, you have to buy my $530 harman cannons first
Why are charttrannies like this?
>>106227581Works on my T50RP.
>>10622807550 dollar shitcannons have way too much distortion or resonances to sound good, even after EQ. You need something with low THD and minimal resonances first. And nobody said you have to spend 500 bucks. There are plenty of cheaper headphones that measure well. Certainly a better use of money than tube amps that actively add distortion or cables that "widen the soundstage". You could get something with low THD for fifty bucks if you're buying IEMs but those are nearly all low build quality chinkshit with fatal flaws like clogging filters or eventual moisture damage that will inevitably cause them to fail.
>>106228088Those are 50 ohm, Aeons are 13 ohm. Tubes are not suited for low impedance headphones.

>>106228414Ah, you're merely retarded, I understand. Yes, I can. Their bass distortion is awful meaning any bass shelf would make the bass sound worse if anything since distortion gets worse the more boosted that frequency is.

Does anyone have experience with the Rode NTH-100? I try to buy Australian products as much as I can and if they're passable I'm happy, I also don't mind EQing if need be. I don't particularly want monitors but do want closed backs and these are the only headphones made in Australia I could find
