>>106200055Is the service worth much to the business? Have you given them access to the source code?
The best move may be to reply with a service agreement where you provide them access to this platform and they pay a monthly fee for said access, say $1000 (payment for the NEXT month).
There is no big upfront payment for them, and you don't give up any code ownership while hopefully making enough many to make it worth hosting and maintaining.

So I got shafted out of a position where I was supposed to be team lead and instead got put on a run of the mill project where all my tasks are just writing business logic into code, dealing with client tantrums and figuring out what the fuck they actually even want. Anyway I'm thinking switching jobs, any good materials you guys know for a mid level .NET developer to interview prep? Most of the positions I'm looking for are C# obviously. I haven't interviewed for almost 5 years now.

Find a car in your budget with <100k miles on one of the car listing aggregate sites like cargurus. Get one from a dealership if you don't know what kind of issues to look for. If the interior looks good ask them to let you drive it to a shop for a pre-sale inspection which is probably around 80 USD. If the shop says no major issues you're good to go. Price negotiation is as difficult as you want it to be; at a bare minimum just look for a comparable listing at a lower price within 100 miles and ask them to match it. If you can't find anything cheaper then they're probably already offering you a reasonable price.

>India’s IT services giants race to reinvent themselves for the AI age
https://archive.is/eXQdJ
>The country’s vast outsourcing sector has been struggling with tepid customer demand for its services in the US, its largest market, as a “Trump bump” from anticipated tax cuts and easing regulations has failed to materialise. Instead, the US president’s trade battles — including a 50 per cent tariff slapped on India that nevertheless excludes services — have delayed business decision-making and investment.
>Sector growth has been in the low single digits for the past two years, according to HSBC, which last month attributed the sluggishness to economic uncertainty, competition from corporate in-house global capability centres being set up rapidly across India, as well as “ambiguity” over the impact of generative AI.

Guys, Should I make a online battle client/fan game from an existing ip or my own original video game as part of my portfolio for job seeking or is that a waste of time? The online client is meant demonstrate my web and networking capabilities (if I want to work in web) and the video game for software engineering. I’m afraid neither would be useful and Corpos would look for actual experience rather than projects
I graduated with a CS degree from a decent college ranked T25 for CS in May 2024, have not been able to find a relevant job since then.
I'm planning to enlist in the United State Space Force in a Defensive Cyber Ops role because I can't find shit.
My goal is to do my 4 years, get out and use the top security clearance + relevant experience to work in government contracting or something similar. Maybe do a master's degree for free with the GI Bill too.
Thoughts on this plan, will this set me up for success in the future?
>>106216085actual unironic realpost (that you do not deserve because your post is bait but hopefully a non-baiting but naive anon will read it)
I have seen many people join the military for return on resume or just to get the clearance or whatever, and they always wash out. they generally go on to greener pastures because they came in already with a half-done degree or something, but if you try to "use" the military that way you are going to get blown the fuck out.
it's a janky place and even in peace is not for the faint of heart, and there is basically no actual return-on-resume because it will take you longer than those initial 4 years to get properly trained in any way that is relevant to civilian employers. On top of that, militaries across NATO carefully curate their courses to never give you any actual certs and always leave you just out of reach of the skills employers want so that you are trapped in the force and have to re-up every time you try to get a job. And outside of a few specific countries' forces, the pay is really, really bad and you get nickel and dimed on shit like having to get your own equipment. Not like how I complain about not having fancy toys off of amphenol -- even in the USA, you have to buy your own uniforms past your first set, you have to get shit tailored, bases are always in the middle of nowhere so now your gas prices are up, the gas stations near work are conspicuously more expensive than the ones in town, money gets taken off your pay for barracks or rations even if you don't use them, etc.
If you're truly down on your luck, sure, join the military as a stopgap and stay in if you end up liking it, but it shouldn't form the basis of any real plans. At the very least, just be a reservist/national guard/etc. for slightly less pay but much more flexibility and similar post-service benefits instead.
>>106216171My post is not bait in the slightest, to be clear.
I get the feeling you're European based on your post. In the US Air Force and Space Force it's extremely common to get free specialized training and certs, and the job I'm referring to is entirely a desk job. If I wash out of this job I was never fit for white collar work in the first place.
reserve/national guard don't get nearly as many benefits and have a longer time commitment, plus I need REAL full time job experience, not something I just do on the weekends. I appreciate your advice though.
>>106216060You're a grifting retard. If you have the skills to make your own game, why wouldn't that be your job?
>>106216281I am canuckistani and from my limited contact with US servicemembers they have largely the same complaints -- their training is over-specialized and getting a civilian job doing whatever it is they do in the military is basically impossible without going to a proper school anyway, and then you're just another fresh grad with a 4 year gap.
Generally the double pensioners do it by being officers and thus just having a degree anyway and the service not really constituting a gap (and officers all being an old boi's club) or by staying in the force a long enough time to make a higher NCO rank and getting into some kind of administrative role (similarly enabled by NCOs being an old boi's club)

>>106216326You have zero fucking clue how american contracting, government work, or military training actual is. The US military actually trains people, gives them good benefits, college money and endless training courses if your job demands it. If you do IT, programming or mechanic work you will likely do 1-2 years worth of training and 2 years of actual work to become proficient. You get enough training that i can say they shove at least an associates degrees worth of info into the militaries training course and give you enough college credits for that degree to materialize.

you'd get paid for attending school and go in tuition free. only thing i'd struggle with is living in Cali with a 56k salary unless you have some other form of income besides that internship you mentioned.
only thing i would do is reach out to alumni and see if there are any people at CMU who were in the military to get their opinion on your plan vs what they did
>>106219796Makes sense anon. I doubt any veterans have gone through that program before as it seems to be a cashcow dead end master's for international students. But I'll find people who've done it and ask them about it.
Could I ask how prestigious you think the CMU name is?
Having a clearance sucks. I did it for like 11 years. I got to see some cool stuff and all, but it's a fucking hassle
>>106219863Doesn't it make you near immune to offshoring H1B? Seems like a massive benefit.
Also, clearance jobs seem slower paced and more chill than big tech.
>>106219888Checked, and yes it's immune to offshoring, though I did work with a few people who were 1st gen children of immigrants, which always struck me as a little odd. Are their loyalties truly to America...? I know they would have interviewed all of their family members and stuff, so I guess it all checked out. Their families all came from allied countries, not like Russia or China or anything, but still...
But unless you live a completely isolated existence, the reporting requirements can get annoying.
Make a friend who's foreign? Have to report that
Your family member starts dating someone who's foreign? Have to report that
Your girlfriend's college friend is visiting from out of town and bringing her foreign boyfriend? Have to report that
Meet your new neighbor who is foreign? Have to report that
Your sibling studies abroad for a semester? Have to report that
Open a new bank account? Have to report that
Get a loan for a car, or a credit card, or a mortgage? Have to report that
Go on vacation to Europe or Japan or even the fucking Caribbean? Have to report that
Win the lottery? Have to report that
Get contacted by a recruiter who sounds foreign? Have to report that
It just never fucking ends
>>106219841everyone in tech knows CMU. i didn't go there, but i'd assume there would be dedicated recruiters from tech companies that have a pipeline for student to hire conversion. only reason why you can't leverage CMU name to get a job is because the job market is ass right now
>>106219953>everyone in tech knows CMU. i didn't go there, but i'd assume there would be dedicated recruiters from tech companies that have a pipeline for student to hire conversionWasn't there some leaked list of "ok" universities from Meta recruiters?
>>106219926That sounds pretty fucking annoying to be fair, I didn't know it was that strict.
Is the work environment at these types of jobs at least good? Is it like the type where people don't do shit and just collect a paycheck?
>>106219988Tbf, I had a TS/SCI with full scope, or whatever the term is these days. The requirements aren't as bad for lesser clearances.
As for work environment, it's highly dependent on the situation. I worked contracts that were somewhat stressful, and I also had a job where for year I came in every morning, checked some system logs, and then read the news for 8 hours. You could have an extremely routine chill job and then suddenly your team gets pulled into an actual national security threat and your boss starts getting berated by 4 star generals (happened to my team). Or maybe you're working on some weapon system that's fucking years behind schedule and billions over budget and everyone is stressed and you have to fly to monthly review meetings to try and defend the project from getting cancelled (happened to my sister team).

>>106220013I really appreciate all this advice mate. Hopefully my plan works out and I can break into this field after 4 years in Space Force defensive cyber ops.
>>106220025I haven't been reading the whole thread, so I don't know what your situation is, but good luck I guess?
I just saw clearances being discussed, and thought I'd share my experience.
Also the cafeterias in government buildings suck ass. They have awful vendors that serve shitty food for ridiculous prices. When I was there, the agency's OIG team actually looked into it and concluded "the government and its employees are getting ripped off", but they couldn't do anything about it. Now I work at a big tech company and eat delicious food every day. It's not free, but it's subsidized and cheap.
>>106219982>>106220020Doesn't seem like it's a requirement that you have gone to one of those. I didn't, and I still got an interview with Meta last year. I fucked it up, but I got contacted and made it through the 1st round.
