Because we've had Windows Update and Dynamic Update for decades now, not to mention every piece of hardware comes with a basic Windows driver on a (mini-)CD, we don't really need Windows to be 99.93% device drivers by LOC - and so they aren't.
I know this isn't the answer you want to hear, but as Windows is the default OS of the real world, even its installer kinda assumes you're starting from a working Windows install. If you're not, you're going to have to do that legwork yourself.
But hey, you're a Linux user, you're all smart and stuff - this should be easy for you, right?
>>106237733
im sorry but i think the operating system installation media should come with the generic drivers necessary to install said operating system.
Does win11 have better file management? My explorer keeps shitting itself trying to sort hundreds of images (win10). Basically I sort by date so everytime I open a folder with a lot of files explorer has an aneurysm.

it does, most common hardware necessary for installation are included on the windows installation media. if you have less common hardware like an old or uncommon raid controller or wifi chipset, you may need to take extra steps. like for a storage controller you can provide one during setup once you get to the partition selection

Nope, that's a nicheism - nobody writes or distributes drivers for niche operating systems like Linux, so that's something you have to do to cope with that.
Mainstream OSs don't have this problem - as mentioned, you have "generic drivers" on discs in your motherboard/GPU/sound card/computer box. If you've lost/misplaced/never had them because you found the machine on the side of the road, this is neither Windows' fault, nor problem.
If you want to shoot yourself in the foot, that's fine - but don't expect me to feel sorry for you while you prance around bleeding everywhere, pretending you're Microsoft's victim somehow.

Unless you used Ventoy or WoeUSB-ng, then I'd bet on the install medium not being prepared correctly.
It's certainly complaining about "lack" of storage drivers, yeah?

I'll bet quids he's made the classic freetard mistake of dd'ing the ISO onto his USB (but refuses to admit it). The entire civilised internet knows Windows doesn't do that standards-violating "hybrid ISO" nonsense (only UNIXes do that, because they can't/don't have generic media creation tools), so it can't see the boot device, start the Windows Setup program, or manage drives.
In his brain, this means "hurrdurr its missing drivers," because he comes from an OS where missing drivers has been in the top two complaints about it for decades, and is a terrible blight on the entire platform.

Don't deal with DD, BalenaEtcher and the likes - it's not a hybrid ISO to begin with. If you formatted the USB flash drive as FAT32 and the installation files are on it, then the firmware should know to boot from /efi/boot/bootx64.efi (as it should)
Otherwise it deals with floppy emulation fuckery in BIOS/legacy mode or when booting from optical media (seeing as it uses UDF as a filesystem.)
Windows has a fair share of generic storage drivers - IDE, AHCI, NVMe, SD, USB, you name it - AFAIR it's a whole different thing with SCSI and (hardware) RAID.
In which case you have to provide Windows the storage controller driver to load (and hopefully will detect the drives successfully.)
Speaking of - what mode is your storage controller set to?
>assuming you aren't baiting of course

Of course you CAN do it. It just doesn't work: Windows can't see the (weird, non-compliant hybrid) UDF once it starts up, so all you have is the SDI/WIM RAM disk with Windows PE - no setup program, certainly no install.wim - so it simply doesn't work.

Most freetards switched to Linux because they couldn't disable updates or pride flags - the most well-documented procedures in existence - so they're not just ignorant, they're actively anti-learning.
And that's before joker who came in a few threads back bitching M$ somehow "sabotaged" the Windows ISOs so they wouldn't boot - turns out the tard had booting from external disabled in his BIOS.
This is a recurring theme with freetards - they don't seem to know or understand anything about Windows at all, keep stomping on rakes as a result, then Dunning-Kruger themselves into Linux thinking it'll make them smart and leet (it never does).

Despite claims to the contrary, Visual Studio Subscriptions have long handed out hashes for MS software ISOs. There was a brief window in the late 2010s between MS shutting down the old MSDN system and starting up the new "MVS" (which VSS is just a rename of) where you couldn't get hashes as Joe Anonymous Public, but it's a long-solved problem.

I dual-boot Linux and Windows 11 on separate physical drives, with a shared additional physical NTFS drive for storage.
Whenever I download a .zip file on linux and then copy it to the storage drive, when I try to access that .zip file in Windows, my mouse starts going into a loading animation, and then like 2 seconds later, it crashes the file explorer closing all open folder windows and sends me back to the desktop. If I log back into linux, that .zip is still accessible and doesn't crash anything.
I found a workaround to access these files by opening 7zip itself, and then just navigating to the .zip and unzipping/exploring the files, and it works fine. I can also delete the .zip or copy/paste it as if I was in file explorer. Is there any way to fix this so I don't have to do this workaround? I thought .zip files were the same whether or not the drive is formatted the way an OS wants. Sometimes, if I restart the PC, I'll be able to access the .zip just fine, but half the time it's inconsistent and I need to do the work around. I don't have a problem with any loose files like images, documents or exe files, it's only compressed files it seems, but it's not like I compressed them in linux, I only downloaded them in linux, so it shouldn't have reformatted them or anything. In fact some of these files were originally downloaded on Windows, then moved to linux, and then back to Windows. I can get by with the workaround but it's kind of annoying when you can't even click or right-click the .zip in file explorer and it just crashes.

Because it's not meant for consumers so you can't officially get an ISO as one
You can know it's safe by comparing the SHA256 of the ISO you've downloaded with the one on Microsoft's official website. If both SHA256 hashes are identical it's literally impossible for the ISO to have malware because if you change even single bit of a file the hash will change completely

So suppose there's a machine with a win10 home installation with a bunch of adobe perpetual license software on it. Can't do a reinstall, because none of the aforementioned adobe stuff can be activated anymore (no, switching to creative cloud subscription shitware isn't an option). Can a boomer windows noob safely do a 10->11 upgrade while retaining the installed & activated software, or is it a disaster waiting to happen? I'm not particularly enthusiastic about driving across the country just for this, but if there's serious risk, it's an option. I've got a complete C: disk image that I pulled to keep as backup last year, so disaster recovery is sort of possible, just not remotely.

At one point I was having issues with the system just randomly locking up so I was doing a bunch of trouble shooting and ended up removing my windows drive which seemed to fix the issue, which seemed to just be because it came loose in the nvme slot cause i forgot to put the second screw in.
Anyways just recently I went to put the drive back in cause I needed to use some software on windows and the windows bootloader is no longer appearing as an option. I can no longer manually select it in the bios either. It is still appearing in my list of drives and I can browse through the files on my linux drive but it seems the bootloader is just no longer there
Any ideas how to fix?

Chance is you (or some Linux install/update) removed the boot entry.
You should still be able to start by selecting the drive as a boot target. GRUB should be able to detect it if you run the updater but it may or may not require a separate package depending on your distro.

help a paranoid retard out, /g/iggas. right now I have Win10 Pro and wanna change to LTSC or IoT LTSC. can anyone add more clarification between "LTSC" and "IoT LTSC"? what baffles me the most is how IoT is apparently for "simple" machinery an yet it works fine for an actual PC? what are the odds that I lose any data on my main SSD when installing either? last time I installed OS (current pc) was 5 years ago and all I memeber were the usb installation and HWID program to activate windows. before any installation I will of course hook up another SSD, back up everything, unplug and install the new OS. as such the risk is virtually zero to lose anything, but I wanted to ask anyway.

IoT still comes with less preinstalled programs on a standard install and it doesn't do things like reserve system space. The updates they receive is identical.
Really LTSC is intended for workstations but IoT LTSC is a variation for equipment where storage space is limited. Interestingly, internally IoT LTSC isn't treated like an Enterprise SKU so any group policies that are limited to Enterprise or Education won't work on it.
The best thing to do is install LTSC and then switch licences to IoT LTSC if you're still using it when support is dropped.

>Source?
I'm sure there's some Microsoft doc page that says it but I'm not aware of which one. A difference with 2024 LTSC is that you can't disable the recommended section in start menu in IoT LTSC but you can on regular LTSC. And Edge is a one-click uninstall from settings on LTSC but for this on IoT LTSC you need to be in EUR.

Problem is that I already set that path to python. Is there a way to set the path variable to multiple values?

I followed a tutorial and it lead me to a website that goes through how to set up vscode to run C++

All was fine up until it told me to go to environment variables and select the path variable and change its value to C:\msys64\ucrt64\bin.
Thing is that I alread have that path set to a value and it would fuck up with my programs if I changed it. Is there a way to assign the Path variable to both values?

I use IoT LTSC 24H2 and I can tell you that it fucking sucks ass. It is full of bugs. Also, It has the recall cancer that the GAC version of Windows 11 has. Stick with windows 10 IoT LTSC if you can or switch to Linux.

Seems to be a red herring, checked my CBS.log and also had these log entries regarding KB3025096 (funnily, that update is destined for the Technical Preview release of 10 - which was a decade ago or so.)
Any actual error entries in the logfile? Ctrl+F for ", Error".
System files located in %SystemRoot% and its subfolders are hardlinked from the latest files in the WinSxS component store, which itself is a part of Component-Based Servicing. You might wanna check whether the component store itself is corrupted and repair it:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
And then use sfc /scannow to restore uncorrupted files back.
I seriously hope you didn't run suspicious shit that might've corrupted or infected system libraries in some way.

Any known reasons for eye-strain in win10/win11?
I remember when I first upgraded to win10, my eyes hurt a lot, so I went back to 7 for few years. Then in few more years upgrading to win10 went fine.
Now I've moved win10 to another hardware which involved reinstalling a lot of drivers, restoring boot partition and enabling Microsoft Shop to get audio drivers etc. some of my previous apps disappeared so I assume change was significant.
And I get eye strain again.

every single time i let the pc do its thing, it messes up everything and then the windows version on it

i assume it's just because they have so many shitskin pajeets working at microshart, they literally can't even handle basic crap like updating a system
i have disabled updates for now, turned off the "update orchestrator" and "windows update" services, but they turn back on without me enabling them (again, seems like this is some intentional spiteful shit by those pajeets because they want to force updates on you just like how they gangrape their bitches)

Secure Boot's whole deal is basically just not letting EFI files execute on boot if their key (bought from MS) isn't in the MOK database. Like for people using Linux it's a pain in the ass I guess but otherwise you barely notice that it's on if you use Windows.

This sims shit is getting serious. Iβd like a way to organize my folders without using a million subfolders as I have been doing. Iβd like to use Windows βgroup byβ feature or something similar to it. I donβt think using Windows default tagging feature is an option since these are .package files. I also donβt want to rename the files. I donβt need anything super in-depth, just something simple and lightweight that:
>allows making custom groups and/or
>a tagging system that is not the windows tagging system and still allows grouping in file explorer
or maybe you have a better idea.
picrel not my folder but instead what i am trying to avoid.

Why is windows being so fucking gay about a disc? Asking bing is giving me conflicting replies and some say "convert to basic disk" may incure data loss. I don't want to copy 600gb accross LAN. Fuck this gay earth.

Copy them to another disc, reinstall windows and copy them back. Just get a USB one if you're not tech savy. There are ways you can get some of your programs backed up and saved up, but again the limitation here is you, as you don't seem to know much. So just copy all your important files and start fresh reinstalling everything.

>Dynamic
Quite a conundrum. Have you used the drive with an another one to create a spanning volume, or say a "software RAID" of some sort?
Most of the time people used TestDisk to try recover the drive's partition layout, or at least try to access the drive's files to back it up.
Best results is that if you made sure the volume was single, plain ol' regular, but just of dynamic type (i.e. doesn't use the dynamic volume-only features like spanning etc.), you could change its volume ID with something like BootICE from 42 (dynamic) to 07 (basic). Proceed with caution.

Nope, never tried doing a RAID even.
I still have no clue what happened, but it managed to unfuck itself. Sort of.
I'll explain if you find this funny. So I have those two hard drives that I want to clone, I noticed that when I restarted the computer it actually randomizes which one becomes disabled, as in one becomes enabled but not the other one, but it doesn't decide which, it's up for grabs on boot. So there's some weird conflict between the two. I thought I might be the drive letter as they're both E:\ on their respective computers, this was never a problem before but whatever I just changed it. Didn't help. So I just reboot until the drive I want to clone became enabled, so then I converted the empty one to basic disk and formated it safely to NTFS, and I was safe to start copying it. Still have no clue what happened but it's solved. Unfortunately I'm not too confident that something isn't majorly fucked in my system if this manages to happen for no good reason, I'm tempted to format everything and start fresh, but it's such a pain in the ass, considering I had to deal with so many weird issues in this build, everything just piles up.

I need to add an Intel VMD driver to a Windows install or it won't even run after the installation on a machine I'm trying to fix. UEFI lacks any option to disable the requirement, so it must be installed in Windows beforehand. Dism refuses to add the driver to either the ISO or the wim file after Rufus has setup a USB drive to be my installer. The Windows installer can add the driver just fine during installation, but I still end up unable to boot, the system can't find my SSD without the stupid driver. There's no security feature stopping the driver from booting as far as I can find. Secure Boot is disabled, too.
I don't know what more to do.
