Is there a specific version of Photoshop that was last known to have good performance?
I upgraded from W8.1 and Photoshop 2015 to W10 and Photoshop 2025 at the same time and now the brush tool is slow as hell and I don't know which of the two caused it
I disabled smoothing, updated drivers, enabled GPU rendering and performance, adjusted nvidia control panel settings for performance, and I can still feel the brush lagging behind my cursor a bit whereas it was 1:1 instantaneous on the old OS/PS, I don't feel like trying each year's PS installation to see which was the last one to not fuck performance up

Hello! I understand you're looking for practical assistance with two specific tasks:
Synthesizing recipes based on available ingredients
Generating TL;DR summaries of Wikipedia articles
I can definitely help with both!
For recipes: Please provide a list of ingredients currently in your fridge or pantry. I will analyze the items and suggest possible recipes that incorporate them. If you have dietary preferences or restrictions (e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free), feel free to include those as well for more tailored results.
For Wikipedia summaries: Simply share the topic or article you'd like summarized. I will generate a concise overview highlighting the key points, historical context (if applicable), and notable facts. This will help you quickly understand the subject without reading the full article.
Your time and clarity are important, and I am here to assist without unnecessary distractions. Let's focus on your goals and make your experience as efficient and productive as possible!

>NAS
Easy. Not sure about how performant Pi3 is but still.
>wireless access point
Yes assumed you got an interface that's capable. And even if your random interface can establish an access point, beware it may not be able to function on the same wireless standard as it can on client mode.
I for example have two different Wi-Fi adapters - Realtek and Intel - both are 802.11ac - or "Wi-Fi 5" - but they can only do 802.11n ("Wi-Fi 4") access points. Realtek can do 5GHz and Intel not even that. Intel I got with my motherboard as it's integrated and the Realtek one I specifically bought for an access point use and kinda got disappointed, AGAIN.
Extra hard mode: do mesh adapters even exist?
>wireless access point to serve a file storage interface, without itself having internet access
Of course. Sounds like you are new to networking, assuming that a link would know anything about IP-addresses in itself.
Simplest possible solution would be to give the wireless interface an IP from an arbitrary local network space.
OR you could turn your Pi into something that bridges between wired and wireless: bridge those two adapters together and give the bridge interface an IP. (or don't give an IP if you wish it didn't speak IP but I guess you want NAS over IP, idk)

>Bouncy Castle is a collection of APIs
>APIs
Why does Bouncy Castle always refer to itself as an "API" instead of library or implementation? It seems like such an odd misuse of the term. "API" implies it's like, an interface definition or something, that might have various implementations, and you'd need to download a Bouncy Castle implementation from some third party and plug that into your app that targets the Bouncy Castle "API". But obviously Bouncy Castle is a single library, and it looks like it was always designed that way from the start. The official site refers to it as an "API", wikipedia refers to it as an "API", even Gemini tells you it's an "API" if you search for it.

Wanted to watch the TV series sopranos for the first time, why are the subs not embedded in the video where I can choose the language from a drop-down menu? Instead, they are .srt files where I have to go one by one renaming the .srt files to match with the episodes. I feel like I'm doing this wrong? For added context, I'm using VLC.

because you downloaded one without embedded subtitles. idk why some of them do that
you can embed them yourself if you like, for example;
ffmpeg -i s01e01.mp4 -i english.srt -i spanish.srt -c copy s01e01.mkv
or if you prefer a gui, you can try mkvtoolnix-gui, where you can drag in the video and subtitle files and mux them into a new file. either method is as quick as your drive can make a copy, and doesn't affect video/audio quality as it's not transcoding anything

I checked "the Sopranos" on my collection and they have the necessary Subs embedded. As i could see, they have forced subs in both english and german if they're needed for the episode.
I pulled the following releases of each season:
Die.Sopranos.S01.German.DL.1080p.BluRay.x264.iNTERNAL-OHD
Die.Sopranos.S02.German.DL.1080p.BluRay.x264-iNTENTiON

Die.Sopranos.S05.German.DL.1080p.BluRay.x264-iNTENTiON
Die.Sopranos.S06.German.DL.1080p.BluRay.x264-iNTENTiON
They hold both the german and the english original audio, plus the needed subs in SRT format.
I renamed them later to my liking into cleartext format with Filebot and and had namegiven the video- audio- and subtitle files as seen in pic related, so i can chose in VLC from the menu.

You sign up to a usenet provider much like you do an ISP. The provider gives you information such as a login and a server address. You then enter that information into an nzb client (think of .nzb files as the .torrent files of usenet). You can get .nzb files from usenet indexers (some are free, some are paid). Sorry if I explained it poorly, I'm retarded and tired.

so i made a new struct that contains pollfd's fields but also a string variable, created an array of pointers to this new type and I cast it to an array of pointers to pollfd when passing it into poll()
I'm wondering if casting my struct to something with less data in it will mess up with the order of bytes and cause trouble

modrinth is retarded and fucking gay. it uses msedgewebview2 to feed ads and connect to the internet. blocking msedgewebview2 in my firewall renders the entire application inoperable. when an adobe ad happens to come on, my shadowplay turns off due to DRM control.
fortunately, if you just right click the ad, you can go into inspect. in the network tab, i want to filter/block literally every single connection, however when i press ctrl+a and then block a URL, only whatever my mouse was over gets blocked. there are over 400 connections and i want to block all of them. is there a better way to do this? i denounce the talmud, and verification is not required for this post

I have a stupid question because I don't want to research the subject. My Sceptre monitor has a horrible blinking line across the entire bottom of the screen. I plugged in another HDMI device and the line is different but still persists. I assume its just a 5+ year old monitor that is failing for some stupid reason. My last Asus monitor failed in a similar fashion.
Is there an easy to consume guide to buying a 4k monitor? Whenever I've casually shopped for them I was overwhelmed by the endless model numbers, year released confusion, and all of the features i'll never fucking use on them.
I'd like a 4k monitor, 120hz, not curved but I guess I can live with it if its a very mild curve. About 27" diagonal. 80% web browsing, stream open, movie and WFH multi-monitor setup, occasional gaming with a 4070super, I don't want to pay $1500 for some culor accurate gamer shit. I just want a good one that'll last and look great for many years.
I'm a tourist on /g/, sorry if this is the wrong thread or I missed some monitor thread. Its just exhausting shopping for monitors when you're cross shopping a bingbo xm27g189x (2024) and a wingwang bb30f GC LED (2025).

>Is there an easy to consume guide to buying a 4k monitor?
The correct size for a 4k desktop monitor is 20-24" or 40-48". The center is where gamer dogshit lives.
The general theory of PC display size is you want something that fills about 40 degrees of your FoV and delivers about 90-110 or 180-220 PPI depending on your budget and visual acuity. The PPI number is important because PC UI is built around small fixed numbers of pixels in various places and these look bad with fractional scaling.
>>106251917
Black frame insertion + high refresh rate and high brightness reduces sample & hold blurring. 180 and 240Hz are notable numbers, but you also need brightness in whole number multiples of what you normally run.

Alright so 240hz refresh rate, more PPI more better. Is there any 'gold standard' monitor that'd fit that description without being too expensive? I've heard having a solid color backlight is good for the eyes in the dark, so I don't' mind an RGB strip I can set to a warm white color, but that can also be added later and wouldn't warrant a $50 increase in price on the monitor as a gamer feature.
I have no idea what your middle paragraph is trying to tell me because I've never measured my FoV and that number varies depending how and where I'm sitting at my desk (laid back, leaning forward, reclining). I have a 26.5" monitor now and I'm happy with its size. I barely play games anymore and theres ample real estate on screen as I continue to age. I'd be hesitant of going much bigger however.
I have a dual monitor setup so if 4k 240hz monitors are cheap I might buy 2 or 3, but if they're $500+ it'd just be the one in the middle.
Thanks for helping a /g/ourist

Does Hyphanet store websites/some version of their sites on your system? I was poking around on there in light of all this censorship talk and looked at like a hundred different sites. I doubt it will use up that much space, but I remember that being a thing with Zeronet back in the day that it would store an instance locally so that the sites could never "get taken down." and I'm curious if it works the same way. Having a hard time finding any info about this.
Also, are Hyphanet or I2P good for torrenting at all. I kind of assumed they would be since Usenet is but it seems to not be the case.

Just search for them. I use NZBgeek. It won't have everything and keep in mind that even with a good, paid indexer you can download a .nzb and your client won't dl it because the file (on the usenet server of your provider) was deleted for some reason. Still, provided you use a good search query such as "goodfellas 1990 2160p x265 hdr" etc. etc. you'll have a bunch of .nzbs that are just straight up copies from private trackers, scene releases etc.

you shouldn't use SMB, its shit.
if you want unencrypted file storage over your local network and dont care about security, only focusing on speed, NFS is best. go set up NFSv4
if you want security (or even expose it over the internet), sftp exists. sshd already has sftp built in, you can either use any sftp client of your choice, or mount it into a directory with sshfs (so it works with literally any program no matter what you do, no need to copy files to your hard drive first or do other things to make it work)
heres my sshd_config block for sftp:
Subsystem sftp /usr/lib/ssh/sftp-server
Match Group sftpjail
ChrootDirectory %h
ForceCommand internal-sftp
AllowTcpForwarding no
X11Forwarding no
PermitRootLogin no
PermitEmptyPasswords no
AuthorizedKeysFile %u/.authorized_keys /etc/ssh/sftp_authorized_keys/%u
PasswordAuthentication no
you can mkdir /var/lib/sftp, make sure to chown root:root it, and use that as the home dir for any sftp users you create
now you can create sub-dirs inside that for each user (keep the home set to /var/lib/sftp and not the sub dirs inside that, because sshd really wants a chroot jail to be owned by root)
chown user:user your subdirs, and chmod 700 them so each user can only access his own dir
make sure you chsh all of your sftp users to /bin/nologin just to be extra sure if you don't need password authentication, and throw ssh pubkeys into a file called /etc/ssh/sftp_authorized_keys/$USER (adjusting $USER accordingly)
it should also take /var/lib/sftp/$USER/.authorized_keys for user-specified keys.

I think it comes down to not carrying around a wallet. You almost always have your phone in your pocket anyway, which has already replaced a ton of gadgets (music player, PDA, notebook, camera... telephone), so now it can also replace your wallet.

Hey. I just got a new job where I'm using a macos. But Im having so much trouble with learning the hotkeys. And who thought it was a good idea to make the command key + C and V a thing? It makes it very awkward to use it having to put your fingers so close together. What the fuck.
Is there a way to use windows hotkeys like ctrl + C instead? And other things like being able to backspace or move through letters using ctrl like usual? This alt-position shit is insane

Is pic related good? Looks like the cheapest 4k monitor but only 165hz which my old 1080p monitor was 185hz. (Its not turning on this morning so I have an ancient Dell filling in)
The other monitors I'm seeing in my price range (under $500ish) are 240hz 1440p which I guess I neglected to consider. Is the extra 75hz better than the higher 4k resolution? If I do play a game its usually an older game or a FPS but like I said, most of the time it'll be for work, some video streaming (while at work) and maybe 10% of the time for gaming. I assume modern titles my 4070super would struggle at full 4k anyway?
I hear the QOLED monitors flat out look the best, but $1200+ prices and risk of burn-in makes me want to avoid them.

Bank cards is exactly what goes into a mobile payment wallet. Sometimes even store loyalty cards, if they're NFC-compatible, can go into the phone pay app thingy too.
Not everyone carries ID with them at all times, though that's the main thing you'd be missing yeah. I've never carried a health insurance card except when travelling overseas.

For 4k vs. 1440p, you have to consider size and scaling. A 27'' 1440p monitor can relatively easily be used without scaling, meaning it'll just be strictly bigger than your old 1080p with more room to display windows etc. But a 27'' 4k monitor will probably need to use UI scaling. The benefit is that everything looks much sharper and nicer, but you miss out on having more usable space.
It also depends on the OS you use. Fractional scaling (e.g. everything 150% bigger) may or may not work, especially on various Linux setups. Integer scaling - i.e. everything exactly 2x bigger - is pretty reliable, but it means you only have as much "real estate" as with 1080p, the only benefit being that everything is 4x sharper.

Whole multiples of 60 is where higher refresh rate really pays off with black frame insertion. As long as you can go +200nits brightness for every extra 60Hz. 165Hz may get you slightly lower frame latency with VRR in demanding games, but that's about it.
Like other Anon said, 2k is ideal in the 27-32" range for display scaling. The next logical step up is 5 or 6k rather than 4k, and you're not getting those in high refresh rate.

Windows. I'm a tourist here. I'm not building my own OS I just want to maximize my value as apparently monitors die every 3-5 years randomly for me. I don't watch monitor reviews on youtube because I simply cannot tell the difference. I subscribe to the logic of more expensive TVs are generally better, but because you only have the 1 you can afford in your living room, you cannot tell the difference unless you're a super nerd that looks at this shit regularly.
27" seems to be my setup size now, should I spend slightly more on 4k or stick with 1440p because the difference is negligible 4' away sitting at my desk?

The Sceptre just died after 3 or 4 years; flashing line at the bottom and this morning it has a strange pattern on it when receiving a signal and then floods to white doing nothing.
I don't really know why they're failing after just a few years, they just uhhh, do. Maybe because they're cheap and capacitors fail?

Standard home office with carpet, there are some cobwebs behind my PC tower (on the floor). Humidity is real here maxing out at night but 30-50% during the day with AC running all day. I think the power must be super dirty, there are very subtle light dims when the AC turns on (it has to be kinda dark in the house to notice), random power outages for half a second, and I assume the delivery is shit as well. I haven't tested it but assume all residential power delivery is kinda bad for electronics.
>and I'm on the computer 8+ hours a day.
I'm generally on for about 12-14 hours a day. I shut down at night and the monitors go idle after like 30 minutes.
I think I'm between a 1440p monitor recommended by Toms Hardware, and this 4k Acer Nitro. I think the significant difference is the resolution and $70. I DON'T play the latest AAA super high graphics games because most modern games are boring to play and I've been told if you drop graphics from ULTRA to just high my 4070super should be good for most games at 4k? I don't think I've played a game with DLSS to know if its bad or not visually, but seems like thats a love it or hate it feature?
tldr spend the extra $70 on 4k, or fuck it get 1440p?

The standard recommendation are used business laptops from a few years ago. Thinkpads used to be the best meme but really HP and Dell business lines are just fine as well, just do some research to figure out which models are the actual business models.
Off the top of my head I only know thinkpads, among those you should look into P-, T- and X- lines. Do a bit of research to figure out which HP and Dell models to look for.
>price of about 800β¬ or less
A decently good model from a few years ago will easily fit, possibly even way cheaper like below 500.
>works well with Linux
Double-check for the particular model you choose, but for that kind of stuff it's very likely. The safest choices are those for which the manufacturer offers or offered preinstalled Linux out of the box, but that can be annoying to find. Still, for normie business lines and especially slightly older ones, good Linux compatibility is the norm rather than the exception.
>1TB storage
This is completely down to the individual laptop so hunt around for a good deal. A large majority will have upgradeable storage so you can just shove in an $100 SSD off amazon. (But nowadays many don't have upgradeable RAM though, so watch out for that, you don't wanna find yourself with an 8GB model that you can't upgrade. Yes that exists even among recent models.)
>can be used for light gaming
How light? If it's something that runs on an iGPU easily then you're probably good with anything from the last 5+ years. But also iGPUs have improved quite a bit in the last couple of years, so if you wanna play something somewhat demanding, check benchmarks.

I just managed to figure out how to download streamed videos on YouTube at the last minute.
However, the amount im trying to round up will take DAYS to be complete and might eat up 50-200gb of my space. There's some stuff i wanna keep on my internal storage.
If i move the already downloaded videos to my sd card, will it keep downloading what's not already downloaded yet? I don't want it to suddenly start redownloading the stuff i already moved...

no laptop thread so ill ask here.
Im in the market for a netbook. like an 8to10 inch 2 in 1 style netbook. mostly shitposting, travel and light gaming though possible SDR HAM use also.
so far ive narrowed it down to the x-plus n305.
https://x-plus.store/products/8-inch-n305-netbook
the GPD pocket 4
https://droix.net/product/gpd-pocket-4/
or the one x player g1

leanin towards the cheaper xplus but i have concerns that the N305 chip is garbage and i can only get it in 16gb or ram. Anyone have any experiance with that chip or company?
Also any other modern netbooks i should look at that ive missed? im open to suggestions

Probably half meant to onboard normies to their firefox cloud data harvesting, half sincere in the sense that you will keep your settings if you're reformating the drive when you switch to W11.
Maybe something will fuck up and firefox tries looking for settings in the wrong place and you "lose" it that way but if that's the case you can move the old data to the new location anyway (assuming you aren't a zoomer and understand what a directory location is, too much to assume from normies).

Also, are you copying the vectors on purpose? Use (const) references for your parameters when possible
I suppose you could set a type alias for the vector of vector like so:
template
using vector_2d = std::vector>;
But ehhh, I don't know about aliases for this kinda thing

Maybe results isn't a very good variable name. Results is supposed to contain an integer representing the class that results from whatever the features are at the same index. The classification tree class is for a random forest and I once saw someone else have the features and classes split like that before so I did it that way without thinking. I suppose there's no good reason not to combine them.
I was copying intentionally since I'm planning to sort the arrays in several different orders, but I guess I can just copy before that instead of copying in the function call. You're right that a const reference would be better.

Would I be dumb for using a NAS as cold storage? I might have it on sometimes, but it won't be 24/7.
I bought a 96gb SODIMM Crucial RAM kit for a laptop, and I've read those or even just 64gb kits can have overheating issues in laptops
I've tried to use HWINFO, AIDA64, and OCCT's benchmarking tools to view it's temps, but unless I am being stupid and am missing something, I can't seem to get any of them to display memory temps
Anybody have any advice? If other people have noted and document overheating issues with temperature statistics on them, then clearly the ram can read it's own temperature, unless the specific timing varient I bought happens to not support that?
Or can certain laptops and bios's not read temps other can even with the same CPU, memory sticks, SSDs, etc?

I am looking to extract images from a comic book pdf, as losslessly as possible.
Usually I load the pdf into photoshop and use PDF Extractor extension to extract all the images into jpg or png files. I can do that using pdftoppm or some other tool too.
But, what I am getting stumped on are spreads (2 images that have to be joined). In Photoshop when I open separate pages from the pdf I can join them in a new image. But, with pdftoppm I would have to take the saved images and load them into Photoshop or some other tool, join and then save again, and that will create degradation. Probably not much but still.
Is there a way to get a lossless copy using command line tools like pdftoppm or pdfimages or whatever and then convert to jpg or something?
Is there any point in buying a CRT now with the availability of shaders like CRT-Royale and CRT Raster-Scanning? The downside to the raster-scanner seems that you need high refresh rate to properly emulate the impulse nature of CRTs. My current monitor only does 144hz, but it's 27 inches and 4k so the image looks great, and I've been using the 1100 zone backlight with HDR on it a lot.
I used CRTs on the tail end of their existence as a child, but I can't really remember too well what it was like, other than some of them giving me headaches if I looked at them too long.
I've been playing older RTS's and other games (C&C, Marathon) lately and I took a surface level look at the CRT Database. I noticed all the higher resolution (relatively speaking, for the era) monitors with decent refresh rates are ludicrously expensive.
I can't really justify buying a monitor and having it take up space if I can't use it for other modern games too, that's why I'm hung up on the resolution part.
Should I just chill and wait for microLED, or better OLEDs and emulate a CRT? Or is it worth trying to actually get one? Again, the resolution issue makes me hesitate as I want to be able to drive it on modern games too.
If yes, what's a desktop CRT that I can get a decent experience with and not get raped to death by scalpers?

maybe find something cheap even if it's too small or low end for what you'd like. even a cheap small crt monitor will still have all the same crt-specific benefits as any other crt, just smaller and with more limited resolution/refresh rates, and even then you'd be surprised what a basic old crt can do. it'd be enough to try and find out if you want to find something fancier

Most people were playing on cheap shit screens in the day. Those ridiculously overpriced ones you're looking at were inaccessible to normal people in the period unless they had a professional use case. Displays are comparatively cheap now. Modern hardware is so fast it would take you less than 2 minutes to boot up, and you wouldn't have any cached errors or memory leaks. So why sleep/hibernate at all? I can see it being useful if you're mid project at work and you're taking a lunch break. Otherwise it's just a waste of electricity and has potential for problems. Not to mention the page file wastes hard disk space.

To shill the ads, they must know what you want to buy. This is what the tracking is for.
The "security" issue is that they know enough about you as a person to predict what you're most likely to buy, or at least they do their very best to learn as much. Do you want several dozen companies you've never heard of having various copies of data on you that are sufficient to build a detailed personality profile of you as a person? Do you want Alphabet Inc. to be intimately familiar with your personality, your habits, your daily routine and even your yearly habits - do you want google to be able to predict with accuracy when you're most likely to decide to go on holiday this year, even before you've actually decided this yourself? Do you want all this information to be accessible to all five yes governments on request?
Most people would say they'd rather not if they think about it for a bit.

It depends on whether you need a facebook machine or whether you do things like compiling and stuff on it. The T530 CPUs, even the top i7 ones, are undeniably dated.
But it's very true that by upgrading, you do sacrifice a bunch of the stuff you listed. It's a tradeoff, ultimately.

actually since you mention it, is emacs good at managing multiple good IMAP accounts?
for context I have tried many things and have literally not found a single alternative to thunderbird yet (betterbird is just a fork so doesn't count). mutt and alpine were built for pop3 and local mailboxes, and seem janky as fuck with multi-IMAP mailboxes. claws-mail comes close except it's also very flawed, it crashed all the time for me, it becomes entirely unresponsive when checking for mail which is an issue when you have ~20 accounts that it checks sequentially for some reason, and none of your email hosts better ever go down (cough cockli) else it will be unresponsive for like 5 minutes until it times out, float an error box you have to click at regardless of what else you were doing, then start trying the next account.

>They are the same thing.
The market segment matters. The ones build by Seagate/WD and sold to mass market as normie storage devices, and glued shut without any moving parts or removable plugs, are generally more reliable than the ones built and sold by no-name chink brands, targeting a weird segment of enthusiasts messing around with internal drives on a budger (rather than mass-market normies), with shitty plugs as a failure point.
Just buy the big brand version that's meant to be normie-proof rather than the cheapo chinkshit that hasn't been designed not to fall apart after 10 uses because why would they bother.
Not to mention that external drives are often at the same price level or even cheaper than equivalent internal drives, while those external cases cost another $20 bucks or so on top of the drive.

If the monitor is powered off then you can't see the windows on it, so it's natural for them to move to a visible surface.
The old monitor probably doesn't report its state correctly, or is connected with an analog interface.

The issue is that it's not the website that wants to set those cookies or track you, but unrelated third parties who do not provide you with any service and you never wanted to deal with in the first place.
In most cases there are HUNDREDS of such "partners" on any given website, and their main revenue isn't serving you ads but profiling you, cross-referencing with many other companies (bank, insurance, grocery store) to improve this profile and keep it up to date. It's as powerful as the Chinese social credit system with none of the government oversight.
They then sell these profiles to the highest bidder. Some of these buyers do illegal things with the data and you have no recourse and no control over it.
Ask yourself why would 919 different companies care about the fact that you browse a gaming website β do you really believe that each of them has games to sell you?
Why doesn't SpookyX work on 4plebs? I only need the post threading ability (or recursive post hiding, whatever) that would be a huge time saving benefit. Any other way to get it for 4plebs?

The reason is because spookyX uses the website's hide buttons and stubs. However, most foolfuuka archive sites like desuarchive seem to hide them - spookyX just unhides them and adds extra features like recursive hiding.
4plebs seem to have gone out of their way and removed them. The stubs and hide buttons are not in the html.

>8k with 10k nit brightness to fully emulate the 'glory' of aperture grille.
I really liked the look for aperture grilles in CRT-Royale when emulating them, so it's what I'd look for desu.
But what do you mean by this exactly? Is it related to the fact that the screen masks on some of them dropped the brightness, yet phosphors are able to be really bright to make up for it?
From the way you're describing it, it makes it sound like the contrast ratio factoring in per pixel/phosphor luminescence is a major factor here.
