Im in the market for a netbook. like an 8to10 inch 2 in 1 style netbook. mostly shitposting, travel and light gaming though possible SDR HAM use also.
so far ive narrowed it down to the x-plus n305.

leanin towards the cheaper xplus but i have concerns that the N305 chip is garbage and i can only get it in 16gb or ram. Anyone have any experiance with that chip or company?
Also any other modern netbooks i should look at that ive missed? im open to suggestions

What is the point of a powerful small laptop? I understand a low power mobile terminal, I understand a powerful pc with a built in keyboard, mouse, screen and speakers. I don't understand a device too small to use like a laptop but too expensive to use in conjunction with one.

It could (at least in theory) replace your phone filled to the brim with spyware (both iphones and android smartphones). Things like a full blown HDMI port also mean you could go to a friend/family member's house and playback a 4K movie with many madvr settings that will make their bullshit streaming slop look like potato video or even retro game with them and bring back splitscreen gameplay emulating gamecube games. There's a lot of potential in bringing x86 (ie a non-toy CPU) to something you can put in your pocket.

For me personally I'd just like a foldable x86 UMPC desu. Something like that and maybe a small dumbphone would probably let me do 80% of what I do right now.

Retro games seems like the best argument but it's been a long ass time since I've prioritized gaming over productivity. Still just seems like a toy, and an expensive one at that.
I guess I could also see if you're in crawlspaces all day and a fullsize laptop is too cumbersome to lug around.

Yeah, I keep my phone on airplane mode 247 except when I need to use mobile data instead of wifi, and even then it's completely silent blocking all calls...except family. Today, dad forgot his keys and banged on my door for half an hour before I woke up and opened it and there were 10 missed calls of the poor old man. But saying "nope, I don't have a phone number" is still undoable with a normalfag family in current year, so if it can't theorethically do that, I'd still have to carry both the umpc and the phone.

Probably the best one is the GPD Win 4. It basically has the same kind of design as the steam deck, but smaller, better hardware, and has a sliding keyboard so you can type on a physical keyboard without carrying peripherals or wasting limited screen space on a virtual one. It has candybar form factor.

Most of the time doesn't matter, because dad mostly calls me on WhatsApp. But I still haven't been able to make those calls only ring when it's family (no message notifications, no calls from everyone on my contacts, just calls from a selected few). Haven't tried too hard either.

The problem with laptops is that they aren't really mobile. They're just more mobile than a desktop was 20 years ago. If you want actual mobility you won't get it with a laptop, which needs a backpack to be carried in, along with a small arsenal of peripherals and cables to be operated. You also can't use it standing, so now either you need to be sitting so it is literally in your lap (uncomfortable), or you need the place you take your """""portable""""" machine to have special furniture to accommodate you (desks, tables, etc). A """""portable""""" machine should not require a stationary operator.

You need somewhere to put it on, or a place to site, because it isn't a handheld. You probably also brought a mouse with you, unless you like those awful track pad things. You also literally had to carry a backpack or messenger bag for it, versus a Maid Computer which just goes in your apron when not in use. It has actual mobility instead of relative mobility compared to even older, more deprecated form factors (desktops).

Laptops are low mobility at best. Maid Computers are the better solution. In addition to actually being mobile, if you do want to be stationary with a desk and multiple monitors or something, you can dock them the same way you'd dock a laptop. It isnt 2006 anymore. Laptops are obsolete.

I did not know about the battery pack on the Win 5. This is unfortunate, and I hope it has reasonable battery life for programming without it. If a battery pack is required for mobile operation then it ceases to me a maid computer by forcing you to carry something extra in your maid apron. Hopefully it is only needed for videogames or other things maids typically would not care about.
