Nearly everyone recommends the same traditional open-back headphones, for everyone, for all use cases except portability. I'm not buying a new house just because my living room is next to my kitchen. All the crap I have, my HD 280 is nigger based mod

HD 280 sounds ice cold even with blue tack mod, blurriest instrument separation I've ever heard, bass is incredible. It's like a fever dream.

Just tried some music with the hd490 pro and the sony mdrm1 in store. I was interested in the senny hd490 but sound wise, felt a little neutral and somehow reduced the bass I tend to enjoy more. The mids sound a little recessed compared to the sony one as well. But it is very comfortable, and overall it isn't as loud as the Sony. No experience using dacs or eqing, not really a headphones guy either, but I tend to favour more of the bass guitar in my music. Is it possible to do eqs on the senny to bring the mids forward and hear a bit more of the bass? My usecase is primarily Vidya 80% of the time and 20% casual listening while I do some programming. Too much piercing would kill my brain. I like to listen to Korean/Japanese alt/grunge lol. Yes I'm a dweeb.

Anyone know the product code for the 90mm rings 3m Make for their double sided tape? I ask because nearly every pair of cups i've bought have come with some (i'm using an M1060 but lmao anything that fits an LCD2 also fits) and my existing tape has disintegrated and my research just ends up with the rolls of tape rather than the circles suitable for cups.

actually looking at, i don't think my skull is bad, instead i think this design is just retarded. every other pair of headphones i've worn has had a soft, padded headband that sits pretty high in a neutral position, and you just lay it on top of your head, allowing the headphones to tighten around your ears and take some of the weight off.

but the k612s have a leather headband that is already taut when you're not wearing it, and it seems to be designed to push into your skull for no real reason. you can't even add your own padding because it doesn't actually solve the tightness issue. but at the same time the headphones themselves have trouble really settling around your ears firmly, so all that pressure is on the top of your skull. just awful. maybe studio headphones are supposed to be like this, idk

Can any anons comment on the DT 770 PRO vs. TYGR 300r? I've been hearing many good things about both of these, and they happen to be in my price range. I will mainly use them for music and gaming, occasionally movies. The one thing which concerns me is I hear that the 300r is better for immersive gaming, but at the same time that the 770s are better for 'explosions' because of higher sub bass, and given the type of vidya I play (Red Orchestra, War of Rights etc.) this might just be, in fact, more immersive for me.
I've also heard that the 770s are better for music due to their higher clarity. So I'm overall having a rather hard time choosing between them. Can any anons give advice?

Has anybody tried out replacement pads for the x2hr? There's the dekoni ones but they cost half the price of the cans themselves. I'm a bit wary of the Chinese ones but they come in gel which sounds nice for the hot weather.

Most of them do not do that, because the driver and ear cap (plastic part between ear cup and earpad, that holds the driver) closes off your ear. You get airflow mostly from earpads. Best ones for air flow are either just soft foam (check koss porta pro as an example), velour or cloth

I've had the 6XX for 6 years now, every passing year it feels more and more like one of the best purchases I've ever made

I turned off my pedestal fan and my amp stopped working. It's done this before (not sure if previously due to fan) and ends up working again later, but I'm wondering what this phenomena is called and why it happens. Here are 2 examples how openback headphones are usually built
On the left your ear is closed off by the driver and driver cap
On the right two types of acoustically transparent material highlighted in green, the paper one looks like it will allow airflow but it doesn't, unless you try to directly blow trough it, and even then it's negligible. As an example I also have dt770 (they also use velour pads) and I don't feel any difference between them and hd560 when it comes to airflow.

I do those. For years my setup has always been IEMs that hook around my ears, running the cable between my shirt and undershirt, connected to a sandisk clip player on the side of my waistband. I hate having to manage wireless shit, and I hate having to fuck with touchscreens. The mp3 player is small and has tactile buttons so I don't even have to look at it, it never gets in the way.

You can just order printed replacements for those, if you're a 3dprinterlet. I recommended 990 pros to my buddy but warned him those were definitely going to break. Once they broke I printed him up another set that will probably never break, if they do I can just get him another. They're instrument positioning and bass headphones with good enough detail. Tuning is by ear, hifi by all standards. It has some of the same soundstage metaphysics as the SR-007 if you know what to look for. Scales well with dac and amp.

Hifiman said their MDR-R10 clone is better than the original. I can believe it. I was originally concerned newfangled driver tech and modern tuning would neuter the OG R10, but it approaches planar speed and detail, needed if you're already used to planars and electrostats. The earcup shape and design badly needed to be reused and rereleased.

What does that even mean? They're 60 ohm, it's not like you need a super powerful amp for these. And all DACs should sound the same if engineered correctly.

This isn't a thing. The speed of the driver won't alter the sound signature, at most it might result in lower distortion. Planars or electrostats aren't inherently more detailed. Detail is something that purely depends on the frequency response. Chinkfimans usually have a fuckton of treble hence the "detail". Stax also tunes their stuff to be bright and that's why they appear detailed. Apply a negative treble shelf and you'll notice the sensation of detail is gone.

Moondrop's freedsp measures decently and isn't too expensive. You can also save an eq preset to it so it's always applied. Comes in handy sometimes. Downside is you need to install Chinkdrop's awful app to set the EQ.
